Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

Ooh I was reading through to check if anyone had mentioned this. It was so nice, I managed to replicate it a couple of years ago and was very pleased with myself.

I do this version too. Using the part baked baguettes from Tesco. I use soft butter, a sprinkle of chopped parsley and 2 or 3 blocks of frozen garlic per 2 loaves.

I remember that bad boy! Closest you’ll get now is the Profiterole Chocolate pot. There was a Chocolate Cherry cheesecake one Christmas… Hoping for similar this year!

Morrisons deli counter used to do an amazing chocolate cheesecake by the slice. Dense and delicious. How I miss that.

They were a birthday special treat. Someone told me that they sell them in Harrods or F&M but I don’t know if that’s true.

Definitely Birdseye potato fritters. Still think about them most days 😂

Ah no, I loved them! Yes they were gone for a while… Cheese Tasters aren’t the same anymore but not totally ruined. Mignon Morceaux mentioned a few times here, Phileas Fogg Tortilla Chips were class as well. The salty hit, snacks aren’t the same anymore. Though I will credit Walkers Sweet Chilli Sensations & M&S Red Pepper Pita Chips. Both quality savoury snacks!

Definitely the M&S pasta salad with sweetcorn and peppers from the 90’s. They also did a beetroot couscous several summers ago that tasted amazing.

Not supermarket but I swear Greggs did a festive Brie and cranberry pastry that I ate way too many of. My purchases alone should have seen it revived year on year!

Back in the 1970s M&S used to do a pork, apple and onion pasty. It was really brilliant for a student lunch with a hangover

Sainsbury’s vegetarian chickpea and potato curry it was really good

Sainsbury’s lentil shepherds pie. It’s now made with sweet potato and is too sweet

Marks & Spencer’s as it was then (or St Michael’s but was always called Marks & Spencer’s in our house) the mince in a pastry roll that was mentioned previously it was so good

Orange Viscount Biscuits, love the mint ones but miss the orange ones they had such a lovely tangy flavour

Ah thank you but no, the ones I yearn for were chilled, individual, lunch break type ones. Like the tiny little trifle pots that they still do.

I do love a warm pudding though, so it's good to have a recommendation.

M&S did a biscuit, bar shaped, that was shortbread-ish with a caramel layer, then wrapped in chocolate, I think they were called Belgian something. There’s a similar one now but not as posh or as nice as the original.

A year or 2 ago I bought a bag of crisps in the Co-op. They were hollow cuboids and were Chinese salt & pepper chip flavoured. Amazing but I’ve never seen them again.

Another vote for mushroom & wine pasta ‘n’ sauce. (Except for when you hadn’t stirred it enough and you got a whole shell full of congealed powder 🤢).

And delta crisps. The salt police must have banned those.

No one ever remembers these - Waitrose bakery counter in the 80s did 2 types of brownies - one coffee one and one chocolate. Both had thick icing on top and loads of walnuts inside. I hope someone remembers so we can be sad together.

M&S prawn sandwiches. It’s more than an outrage it’s forced deprivation of a basic human right!

Also, M&S mountain bars.

Lidl used to do a huge double size tin of chilli which was bloody lovely. Such an easy win to chuck in a pan if you couldn't be arsed. Our eldest two liked it when they were little too (eldest now 18!). Think it was a big yellow tin.

It went quite a few years ago now. We've tried the odd tin of chilli here and there since but they're all rank, even the pricier ones. Never found another one I like.

I still very much miss Deltas. Nothing has ever come close!

Fletchers wheaten loaf. Sadly missed. I could eat a whole one when I was young.

They still sell those sandwiches
