Which discontinued supermarket foods do you still miss the most?

Tesco used to do an extra strong garlic bread. The big big Tesco near me no longer sells it. I really miss it. When I eat garlic bead I want it so strong I lose my sight for 10 minutes. I want to be vampire proof for life.I want my sweat so garlicy it melts man-made fibres. That bread used to get me halfway there.

And Waitrose used to sell Spanish (Galician) tinned mussels which were well wicked too.

What do you miss?

birds eye used to do Ketchups. It was like a potato croquette with ketchup in the middle, also loved their fritters.

Not a food but I really wish Ariel would bring back Ariel alpine washing powder 😫

M&S still do prawn sandwiches, two in fact - one basic and a ‘posher’ one.

Tyrell’s do vegetable crisps, as do Sainsbury’s

I’ve thought of two more, both from Morrisons:

1. about 14 years ago they had these delicious crumbly oat biscuits (I think with coconut added). They disappeared soon after I discovered them 😭

2. their beetroot and mint dip. Delicious. Last time I popped in there was no sign of it on the shelves with the other dips. I fear the worst…

Aldi sell the same type of salt and pepper crisps whenever they have a “Chinese” week. I bought them 2 weeks ago.

M&S chicken no Mayo sandwich- they used yogurt instead and I hate mayo so loved that.

Marks and Spencer again, but they used to do a beetroot and horseradish chutney that was just lovely.

@Blankscreen - it lasted longer than expect. Every time Sainsbury's redid the packaging, I thought there goes the Breakfast Sausage but it tasted the same until the last revamp - now it's gross! So sad as it was a joyous lunch on toast with French mustard - literally went out of my way to buy up packets of it.

Also miss M&S / Waitrose choc chip hot cross buns - plain dough with dark choc chips. No choc dough or caramel pieces. Less is more.

Waitrose choc chip loaf - again plain bread dough with choc chips - fabulous toast with salted butter.

M&S Chicago? (rectangular) pizzas from a couple of years ago. Just the right levels of dough to toppings.

Maple butter - was stocked in Waitrose for a bit & is gorgeous on toast

M&S Fisherman's (or was it Admiral's) Pie - white fish in a white sauce with cheesy, crispy mash on top. Was a summer holiday treat as we didn't have an M&S near us.

Sainsbury's Turkestan bread was so delicious.

Not a food but a drink. Taboo - it was amazing to drink, I really miss it.

Not exactly a Supermarket own brand but everywhere sold it - Sara Lee Pecan Danish!

It’s a drink not a food but proper Ribena with sugar in it!

I have been searching for it for about 4 years, used to buy at least 2 a week at one time (my daughter was mad on them) and then suddenly couldn’t find it anywhere tried every supermarket, checked online, I could try to make one but I don’t think it would ever taste quite the same

Tesco sold tinned creamed mushrooms. Perfect if I was making a pie with left over roast chicken. I haven't seen them for ages.

Heinz tinned treacle and tinned spotted dick with lashings of Bird’s custard, which I still make. Absolute comfort food that welcomed me into the bosom of this country when I arrived here 30 years ago. I miss those tinned puds soooo much!

And my first world ‘loss’: M&S Lasagna Al Forno (standard lasagna and gastro pub lasagna are still available but the al forno was our regular and a favourite).

Not stocked locally, but I'll try other stores.

Sainsbury's used to do a Japanese microwave meal with fat udon noodles, a lovely sauce, it might even have had a small scattering of peanut nibs with it. This was around 1998ish. One day, it vanished, and I've mourned its passing ever since. See also Freschetta(?) pizza, around the same time, which had lovely chunks of fennelly sausage meat on there, but is now shite.

Sainsbury winter fruit salad - a pack of dried fruit, prunes, pear, apple slices,
all very Brambly Hedge, soaked overnight in a bowl of originally tepid water,
drained, plump and delicious on muesli or with home made rice pudding,
inexplicably not available now. I do miss it, winter magic.

Sainsbury, slender box of bread sauce mix - add milk and stir, really tasty, discontinied.

Jellies! peach jelly especially, or blackcurrant, my poor deprived children…

eta - Chocolate Olivers! mourned those for years.

Yes I loved this. It's the sort of thing you might find in Heron Foods on a lucky day!

Have you tried the Tesco organic ones? I think they've recently changed the recipe.

M&S Count on Us mint chocolate mousses probably from about 20 odd years ago - absolutely delicious you wouldn't know they were a 'healthier' option.

Sainsbury's used to do a gammon and mustard quiche about 30 years ago which was so nice! Used to have it with new potatoes.

Morrison's fig and grain big pot yoghurt - only discontinued a couple of years ago and I really miss it - nice and creamy and good balance of flavour / decent amount of grainy bits.

'Original' Special K cereal from the 80s when it was still really small flakes not the huge chonky knobbly ones you get now.

They sell a cheese and celery sandwich, but it is very different. The old one had grated cheese and the celery was mixed through it. The new one I've seen has slices, and it just doesn't hit the spot the same way. Maybe I am just being picky, but I really don't enjoy the new one the same way :-)

Why do supermarkets DO this to us?
It's not much to ask that we have yummy foods, surely..
