Agree. According to some we'd be back in the dark ages if we ditched the ECHR.

Also agree that this won't end well. He will be a subject of ridicule if he doesn't change tack.

Anyway, all this talk of Booths…. I might have to get a catalogue or something.

So many of you seem to live in these nice areas, can’t you find me a nice Northern man who cooks and shops at Booths 😂I can move up north. Which I would prefer to Mississippi being honest….

Knutsford also on my list of places to visit. It’s a long list! I am slowly making almost no progress with it every year.

Just for balance, my DH thinks Booths is overpriced nonsense. Obviously I think he has no taste. 😊

Yes, it’s the ridicule I had in mind. When politicians and parties become figures of fun they can’t recover without a period out of power.

I can easily see Burnham becoming a ludicrous figure banging on about bus timetables as the economy, unemployment, bankruptcies, asylum, the state of the armed forces etc fester away. It’s all very well being ‘relatable’ but voters want leadership and big figures in charge.

Not, therefore, a supermarket manager looky-likey who plays with his model buses and pretends he’s in the White House.

Yep, being the subject of ridicule is far more damaging, even than being disliked. They rarely recover once that takes hold.

Looks like we're in for a bumpy ride if this is Burnham's MO.

Thankfully my DH is fully on board with my Booths love (he may even love it more than I do!).

@SapphireCasino, if you contact Booths they'll post you a copy of the Christmas book (or they used to). I can send you an old one as we have duplicates from at least a couple of years! My kids save the books each year.

My DH is much worse than me; thinks no trip up north is complete without a visit to Booths. He has one of those plug-in coolboxes in his vehicle, which I'm convinced he bought solely to stock up on their products to take home on the last day of our trip. 🙄

The level of fandom for Booths is quite something! Cool boxes and keeping the books - wow. My face is going to be a picture when I go!

Booths makes me think of trips to the Lake District. It has an epic drinks aisle.

So true. Leaving the ECHR is necessary but not sufficient. As long as we have activist judges who insist on a fantastically expansive interpretation of the law, we will have problems.

I think that will be a very dangerous point.

If the people vote in a government which writes laws to stop immigration... but due to judges, civil servants and activists those laws aren't followed through... then democracy and legal process will have shown itself powerless. What will the population do next?

I quite like to people watch in the one outside Kendall, and see what the posh people are putting in their trolleys.

If the judges don't follow the law, the judgment can be appealed. I foresee a great deal of expensive litigation.

Well we are already seeing some of that with the Supreme Court decision on FWS. The judges have laid down the law and civil servants, charities, councils, unions, even MPs are saying they are going to ignore it.

So even when we have sensible judges it doesn’t seem to matter.

What actually happens if judges don’t follow the law, though? Wouldn’t that be… the path to revolution?

I’m just catching up with this news about the crash. I feel as if I’ve missed something - why would the Prime Minister need to comment? I’ve definitely missed something haven’t I? Or is it because of the poor police victims?
