A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

My understanding is that it was set up by climate activist with foreign funding. So not exactly a national news paper.

It also feels different that Reform was solicited rather than the other way around. That will strike a lit of people as entrapment.

If it was entrapment, then that's really not investigative journalism and I don't agree with that course of action. I had only seen the headlines, not looked closely behind it (I'm a bit pig sick of politics right now as I think it's such a fucking shambles).

Yeh I hear you. It’s been dominating the radio for 24 hours too.

Oh, going back to donations, the Lib Dems have had millions from puberty blocker manufacturers. I think they should really be keeping their heads below the parapet!

Same. Definitely a shambles rn. Glad I missed most it yesterday.

Yeah, it is a shambles.

This conversation now, has got me digging. This is what I gave learned so far:

Itwas conducted by this new not for profit outfit:

https://www.verbatiminvestigations.com

They are funded by these guys:

https://climate-reporting.org

This is who funds them and why:

https://www.influencewatch.org/organization/centre-for-climate-reporting-ccr/

So US and Danish pressure groups are funding them to set up elaborate stings. I am not a lawyer, I don’t know the legal definition of entrapment, but as a member of the public, I feel Reform were not caught in an organic, authentic sin. Rather their political opponents tempted them into flirting with something that they were not going out of their way to solicit.

I am a member of the Conservative Party and do not intend to vote Reform. At the same time, this just looks like political dirty tricks. The climate activists need to win the public’s backing in an honest, rational way

Oh I know. They all need to be careful here, as I said - glass houses. Hasn't stopped Ed Davey giving both barrels.

Yes I want Kemi as PM but agree with much of what you say.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 05/09/2026 12:37

There’s an element of entrapment in most political undercover reporting, and in lots of undercover reporting of all sorts. The main issue is whether there’s a good enough case to use subterfuge and temptation at all. In Reform’s case there clearly was because of Farage’s £5m. He pushed that further centre stage himself with his Clacton stunt.

Fluffy’s right IMO. You can’t pick and choose what’s good or bad journalistic exposure of dodgy party funding or politicians’ wrongdoing based on party allegiance. If Reform called for Streeting to be investigated, they’ll have to live with this.

If this C4 report was misleadingly edited, that’s one thing. But if it wasn’t, it was a worthwhile piece of journalism.

DinnerinfrontoftheTV · 05/09/2026 12:40

Interestingly, verbatim calls itself a not for profit on its website and solicits donations.

However, it is not registered with the Charities Commission. It is set up as a company on companies house, though. It was set up this July. They brag that their Reform sting took them a year. Somebody smart at Reform should be all over these inconsistencies.

Reform should have checked the background better, to be set up like that is a failing somewhere.

Yes, agree. It stinks.
This should have been picked up by Reform before it went this far. They shouldn't have been able to get anywhere near Farage.

I try to keep up with European politics as far as a casual interest allows. It does look as though the more extreme right is rising so far and so fast that it can’t be stopped.

I agree, but then what happens if the far right gain power in say, Germany? Re migration, will they do what Hungary and Poland have done and just ignore EU laws about accepting migrants?

Probably.

It was always available to us.

But we are a bit too “high on our own supply” of being the most wonderful people with the bestest human rights in the whole world. Except for the British working class who seem to be of no consequence to our politicians or judiciary.

I think so as @DinnerinfrontoftheTVsays. If France vote similarly there’ll be a referendum to override international conventions etc

Well, that sounds like a similar set up to the Good Law Project. And I have my opinion about them!

I wasn't online yesterday but just read one of the threads. Its like bingo. 'Deform' 'racist' 'thick' 'uneducated' etc etc.
Funny as I had lunch with a 'deform' voter yesterday. She's a high ranking police officer. 🤷‍♂️

The French and German elections will be fascinating. I though the Jordan Bardella stuff was really good yesterday, but obviously overshadowed by the headlines.

Yes exactly this. My pretty rural village, full of professional people and farmers, most usually vote Conservative, myself included. Non that I know are racist, thick uneducated, in fact we have 2 medical directors, engineers, pharmacists, business owners and farmers. They all voted Reform in the local elections and said they may do again in a General Election. My family in Manchester, all degree educated and business owners, nurses, police officer ets voted Reform, non are racists, or uneducated . The Rhetoric the left are using will not wash any more, unless there is a radical change in Labour’s policies, that improves growth, unemployment, especially NEETs, and we start to feel safe in our country again.

Yep, I don't recognise the depiction of a Reform voter I see on mn.

In my area, they're all ex Labour voters.
I've had many arguments on here about that, only to be told that they aren't "proper" Labour supporters if they switch to Reform. The irony that the areas most under threat from Reform are the Labour heartlands! Also see Wales where Reform came second.
Labour has abandoned them, not the other way around.

The rhetoric seems to have ramped up too, so many Farage threads and posts. I wouldn’t be surprised if it does the opposite to what is wanted though.

The picking and sniping has the opposite effect. It’s over the too, it doesn’t quite square and it leaves one with the impression that Farage just might have a point.

I don't think it will. If people aren't already supporting Reform / Farage, they're not going to start because people are levelling insults at their voters. They're a fading force, IMO.

In my area the Reform voters who post on our local Facebook pages are, unfortunately, mostly the stereotype. Our ex-Labour voters go Green or Indie (who are all ex-Labour and more left!). There's one Reform voter on Facebook who's measured and seems informed and considered. He's a rare breed, sadly.

I don't think it does. But I come from a position where I'd never vote Reform. Maybe those more amenable to voting for them may think so though.

Idk. If Kemi benefits then great but it feels like Reform is filling the airwaves atm.

But it's not translating into the polls. Wide and shallow support for Reform. Nothing is changing my mind on that!
