A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Yes, I was generalising, which can never be universally correct. Fair enough.

But I do think there are significant numbers of Reform voters who have swallowed Farage’s wild promises and have been gulled into thinking that he is the ‘only way’. Although he’s been around a long time Farage cultivates this myth of the messianic outsider. Which leads to an angry protectiveness towards Farage and Reform among its voters that you see in cults.

It’s a right-wing version of Labour or Green cultism. You can’t get a committed Labour or Green supporter to moderate their view on anything. They’ll never see nastiness, stupidity, venality or dishonesty in their party or their favoured politicians. And they’ll believe any old crap about their opponents.

TBH, I find Reform’s answers to the C4 programme more revealing than the programme itself. Some frank admissions of wrongdoing and statements of willingness to change would have been refreshing, but we just got obfuscation, minimising and excuses. They look like the guilty defendant in the dock who’s trying to pretend that they only burgled six houses because of a misunderstanding.

Even a Reform sympathiser like Aaron Banks has apparently said he’s bothered by the standard of governance of the party.

The sitting government have sailed pretty close to the wind, and maybe we’ve only found out about half of it - clothes, tickets and other freebies.
Reform support is largely made up of the fed up, not the gammons so popularised by this site.

I really don't think you can compare the donations to Labour with the donations to Reform, particularly when you're looking at permissible and impermissible donations, as well as the potential scale.

Not that I'm defending the hypocrisy of Labour, as that's there in spades, as discussed at the time, but potentially Reform are in serious legal trouble.

It’s infuriating isn’t it? If we’d gone through with this 5 years ago we’d be in a completely different position now. The up front costs would have been over with and we wouldn’t have the ongoing costs of supporting the numbers we now have in the UK, along with all the social tensions that have been created. Also there was a deterrent effect. How many billion has been spent on hotels, and now HMO’’s etc.

It's beyond disgraceful , beyond and the irony is if these were women and children from actual dangerous war torn countries, I'm sure most people would gladly contribute to more to give them !
Clothes ,books play facilities for children etc

But we are funding strapping young men ! Not even older men ?

It's a massive fuck you , to everyone.

In a country where we are told about financial black holes and deep money woes.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/09/2026 09:02

It's ridiculous that Labour scrapped the Rwanda plan, utter nonsense. Made to look even more nonsensical by the EU's current trajectory / planning. They need to stop governing by ideology and get a fucking grip on reality and things that are needed and will work.

Oh, I’m not saying that other parties have scrupulously clean hands. And there’re some stupid accusations thrown at Reform. One of the most laughable criticisms is that Reform’s received money from very rich donors. And Labour and the Tories haven’t?

But when they’re caught out parties need to come clean and change. I just don’t see Reform being capable of that or that much of their voter base cares, at least about rules on party funding. A lot of this is because of the ‘holy prophet’ figure at the head of the party. I honestly think that if it wants a longer-term future Reform should cut ties with Farage and his aides.

I also agree that the fed-up are a reasonable and powerful block of voters. I just don’t think they should be following Reform. They won’t find satisfaction for their discontent in a Reform government.

I agree.

We have obligations to receive and process asylum seekers, which we should honour. But we can do so in ways that are much more realistic and sensible, so that the system attracts the genuine and dissuades the liars and chancers. Off-shore processing was always a good idea. Starmer was a fool to cancel it and looks even more foolish now that liberal European countries are adopting it.

The last time I looked at the figures, the French accepted 22% of asylum applications, the UK accepted 72%. If the left in this country thinks France is a cruel and inhumane place they should say so, and ostracise France. Labour should similarly condemn all the EU countries that have or will be operating off-shore processing.

I agree. I think all parties have dodgy donations so should be careful about throwing stones from their glass houses. Remember Labour and their Cayman Island hedge fund? And there was a scoop very recently about a dodgy donations to Wes Streeting. I'll reserve judgement on Farage until the investigations conclude. I know a witch hunt when I see one though!

I know loads of Reform voters and agree with your take. Most don't like Farage much, but they've had enough and see no reason whatsoever to continue voting for Labour or the Conservatives. I hate the labels attributed to them.
I also hate the constant downplaying on security for Farage as we've only recently seen the horrific murder of Ann Widdecombe.

That might screw up their lovely little holidays in the Luberon though (I am still indignant when I think of the rude English woman we encountered there).

This is a pretty big switch. Just looking up as @SheepinWolfsdresssays. Starmer raced to undo it.

On September 4, 2026, the interior and migration ministers of Denmark, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, and Greece met in Copenhagen and finalized the next concrete steps to establish these offshore deportation centers

Off to Google.
Didn't Kemi mention this at PMQs this week? I wonder how Labour will spin Rwanda #2 🙄

Same. I haven’t followed it that much as mn goes into overdrive when Farage is in the spotlight, there’s always a thread where one or two posters get lambasted all day.

But if the C4 ‘sting’ isn’t about money that was actually given then there won’t be legal action presumably.

Also the French elections are a big deal now, we’ll see who wins that.

There’s a middle class left-wing worship of European countries that makes me laugh. George Orwell skewered these people and their pretensions decades ago.

Some of mn is top for this. Deportation centre by key five countries, in a similar place to Rwanda or maybe there, will be a bit difficult to square.

There was money given, apparently. About £30k. Another half million was discussed but (obviously) not given.

Google suggests that offences related to impermissible political funding are drawn very widely. Obviously an expert - not me - would need to say, but on the face of it there doesn’t need to be actual payment made to break the law in that way.

I personally think all dodgy donations should be investigated, as our MPs and political parties need to adhere to the rules they're governed by.

Reform wanted Streeting investigated (https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2026/08/07/streeting-must-investigated-crypto-king-donation-reform/) so it's only right that Reform is also investigated if potentially dodgy donations come to light.

I wasn't online yesterday but just read one of the threads. Its like bingo. 'Deform' 'racist' 'thick' 'uneducated' etc etc.
Funny as I had lunch with a 'deform' voter yesterday. She's a high ranking police officer. 🤷‍♂️

The French and German elections will be fascinating. I though the Jordan Bardella stuff was really good yesterday, but obviously overshadowed by the headlines.

Yes, all the insults do piss me off as there's no need. And those throwing insults around like confetti would be up in arms (and hitting the report button at speed) if the boot was on the other foot.

We can have political differences without resorting to insults.

And every single potentially dodgy donation should be looked at.

Exactly, and agree also with your last point. Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

Has Kemi said anything about the latest with Reform do you know? I can't find anything. I'm kinda hoping she hasn't jumped on the bandwagon with Labour and the LDs.

Idk how the French will vote, I think his party is ahead in the polls but the system can sometimes deliver otherwise. Although migration issues are becoming more pronounced across the EU too.

I think what happens will have a big impact politically here in part due to that agreement.

Idk either. The Times had a piece about Bardella that wasn't very complementary. Then I read the comments, many of them were written by French nationals who completely disagreed with the writer's take. They said Bardella was hugely popular and suggested that the writer spend more time outside of Paris.

To be honest in some ways I think the donations to Labour are worse. Aslef donate millions to labour and then surprise surprise they get inflation busting payrises from the public purse.
