Yes, I was generalising, which can never be universally correct. Fair enough.
But I do think there are significant numbers of Reform voters who have swallowed Farage’s wild promises and have been gulled into thinking that he is the ‘only way’. Although he’s been around a long time Farage cultivates this myth of the messianic outsider. Which leads to an angry protectiveness towards Farage and Reform among its voters that you see in cults.
It’s a right-wing version of Labour or Green cultism. You can’t get a committed Labour or Green supporter to moderate their view on anything. They’ll never see nastiness, stupidity, venality or dishonesty in their party or their favoured politicians. And they’ll believe any old crap about their opponents.
TBH, I find Reform’s answers to the C4 programme more revealing than the programme itself. Some frank admissions of wrongdoing and statements of willingness to change would have been refreshing, but we just got obfuscation, minimising and excuses. They look like the guilty defendant in the dock who’s trying to pretend that they only burgled six houses because of a misunderstanding.
Even a Reform sympathiser like Aaron Banks has apparently said he’s bothered by the standard of governance of the party.
