blaming Truss is all every well but they need a plan - I’m going to have to switch off reading tax speculation as it’s too stressful..

I don't think Kemi will struggle dealing with the new PM. I'm struggling to find any positive write ups about Burnham in parliament. Most are at best underwhelmed, at worst calling him an air head and a bimbo. 😬

Yes the financial stuff is concerning. I've just fixed my mortgage for another two years this morning so feel a little better now. Just need to have a look at our gas and leccy as its due to jump even higher in January (9% I think on top of the October price rises).

Burnham's problem is it's not just comedians taking the rise out of him. He lacks gravitas and hasn't shown any real understanding of the role he's long coveted.

Boring Starmer was bad enough, but Lightweight Boring Burnham could be a real disaster for Labour - and us.

Arghh. This bothers me as our fix ends at the end of Nov, so I'm torn between fixing elsewhere or riding it out til early Oct, which is the earliest I can leave BG without a fee, with god knows what rates.

I see what you mean. Tbh, my fixed rate ended a few weeks ago but I've been so busy that I didn't have time to sort it out. My new rate will save us £50 per month. I could have saved a bit more, but didn't want to go onto a tracker in the current climate. You'll have to weigh it up against the fee for an early jump.
I hope you find a good deal, its difficult to know whats the best course of action rn.

I just switched to Sainsbury's Energy which was cheaper than anything Scottish Power were offering. DS has switched to Eon Next which was even cheaper. Both 24 months.

Halifax. I find I get a better deal if I do it over the phone rather than online if that helps.

I'm constantly nagging the dc about energy use again. Tempted to remove all the light switches and take the knobs off the oven instead. 😂
Got home from work lastnight to heating on (it wasn't cold), back door wide open, and the oven on, but empty because they forgot to switch it off. Why use a large oven for a few potato wedges when there's an airfryer on the worktop? And then leave it switched on ffs. Don't get me started on how long they leave the shower running before they actually get in. Rant over.

Would be good if I could plug my high energy dog into the grid.

This is the nub of the falsehood that Labour has been peddling for many months and that Burnham is now promoting in the face of potential havoc in the markets. It is not true that global pressure on states’ borrowing accounts for bond movements against the UK. The markets always work against a global background but it is Labour’s weakening of the economy that has led us to separate off from the rest and be eyed more sceptically than other countries by the markets.

The ‘Truss created this’ is also a barefaced lie. She created a crisis by a mini-budget that was never delivered, and the effects of which were unwound (after she was thrown out) well before the double calamity of Reeves’s tax hiking and Starmer’s capitulation to backbenchers over welfare reduction.

So we are facing down a possible terrible cold el nineo winter with no rose bank signed / fuel insecurity / importing from Norway and elsewhere where / no end in sight with Ukraine and Russia and Iran and USA.

@NoWordForFluffy We're with Octopus for dual fuel. They're not the cheapest, but they don't use bots to answer the phone and they don't bully you into accepting what they think your DD should be, e.g., we've been paying £144 pm, they wanted to increase it to £214 (even though we're currently over £300 in credit). No chance - and more importantly, no problem. We'll deal with the increasing costs once the credit is depleted.

Last year I sold a house I'd inherited. The dual fuel supplier was BG and they were an absolute nightmare to deal with, even though the house had smart meters and billing and consequent transfer to the new owners should have been straightforward. Never again.😱

I don't think Labour actually care. Looking at the faces of the front bench yesterday, all grinning like its a game. I think they'd prefer to just ignore it so they can crack on with their silly pet projects that they've dreamt of since 6th form.

Kemi will skewer them on the economy.

I heard that Burnham will announce a go on Rosebank, but he cant announce it yet.

He thinks Labour MPs are less likely to kick off if he waits until its cold, so won't announce until the temperature drops. You couldn't make it up.
