Fair. As I said upthread, I can see why he’d turn his back on the PLP after the humiliation they heaped on him. So I can’t entirely blame him for walking away, even if it was yet another say-one-thing-do-another Starmer special.

As for his new job, I think we can hope for a piddling little nothing job that keeps Starmer away from anything important and have a good laugh at the outcome of his distasteful, vaulting ambition.

He is a twat, always has been.
He said he wants an international role in defence, so not so subtly hinting that he wants to take over as Sec Gen of NATO from Mark Rutte. No thanks.

Having his defence secretary and ex-forces veterans minister both resign over his lack of commitment to defence spending and support for veterans might be a bit of an obstacle!

There’s that, I know what you mean. I was okay ish with Sunak but I was mainly thinking of the other practical stuff when you find yourself wondering what world they live in.

I watched PMQs; all I can say is Burnham was unremarkable.

Doesn't seem long ago that the government were asking us to breed, unfortunately we couldn't afford to in the main. Now gates and crew want to reduce the population. Well heads up Europe did drastically. However, in the west we've had to import labour because of very low birth rates.

Perhaps when ai and robots are working on our behalf we'll all need to be sterilised. We won't need to feed the world because population will shrink drastically in the next 100 years.

I see an unravelling with the public here - it’s a softer approach but AB fundamentally didn’t acknowledge that labour have been driving us down the wrong path for two years. He might pay for that lack of honesty. There was a laugh when he talked about helping farmers and rightly so. No prefacing remakes showing he understood what KS et al had done to them.

I’ve got to hope nobody gives KS another key job…time to put your feet up Keir! Surely he’s demonstrated that he can’t lead, can’t manage, and can’t unite people…except in wanting him replaced.

He can play the flute though. And he’s had experience of owning a donkey paddock (two, if you include the Parliamentary Labour Party).

Perhaps he could get a job as a Kentish Town donkey piper? There must be an opening for a man who can calm north London’s donkey community with easy listening flute music, surely.

I heard this morning that yesterday (the day Starmer resigned his seat), was exactly a year to the day since he infamously launched "phase 2" of his government.

I wouldn't work for him. He sacks people to cover his own mistakes.

Harriet Harman has congratulated Kemi and labelled her "woke" for promoting Claire Coutinho when she's on maternity leave. Wtf? 🤯

Labour really do have a woman problem, and even the self-styled feminists among them can't see it.

Listening to PMQs…really think Kemi had a good response to Burnham regarding Liz Truss.

The thing with PMQs is blokey northern won't cut it. He is not just speaking to the PLP, or parliament or parliament plus viewers/listeners, he is speaking to the markets, investors etc.

His every word is scrutinised to establish if the UK is somewhere worth investing in, how much the country's debt should cost (are we a safe bet). I know Burnham doesn't care much about the bond markets etc, I suspect he soon will do.

As for Harman. What a load of absolute nonsense. Claire Coutinho is good at her job that's the reason for promotion. Labour pretending they are the champions of women, when they let men on all womens shortlists is an absolute joke.

Gosh what a load of hot air and nonsense.

The conservatives have had more female leaders and different ethnicities too. Labour has sneering and not much else.

How to utterly put a woman down and try to destroy her credibility: imply that she has been promoted for woke reasons, due to being a woman. I didn't have HH down as a passive aggressive snake - but that's certainly how she sounds!

No, Harriet. Conservatives value competence. Unlike the sexist, racist Labour party, we genuinely don't care about a candidates DEI characteristics: we see a person as an individual, and judge only on their personal ability. That's what true equality is. And the diversity you get from that type of equality - rather than mere woke tokenism - results in having fantastic people who actually deliver.

As evidenced by the Conservatives now being on their 4th female leader, and their 2nd non-white leader...

Whereas Labour still haven't ever had a leader who isn't a white male.

With 50% of the population being female and 17% of the UK population being non-white, I'd say they were missing out on a lot of talent.. but given that they can only select from Labour believers, 'talent' would be a stretch.

Totally agree, he was just as I expected, out of his depth. If this is the best we have then god help us.

Same.and I can't understand this idea that being born rich means you can't empathise or want people to have better lives. Sadly most humans have had to struggle and suffer in some way.

I don't know how hh has the absolute brass neck to comment . Would any of us even dream of saying such a comment that may actually remind people of strawberrys facts !
