A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 🥀

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

This speech today is just more of the same vacuous crap.

EasternStandard · 01/09/2026 16:22

I didn’t listen but reading the review. My word it sounds empty and the same blame stuff.

Nuthatch26 · 01/09/2026 16:28

Empty vessel full of waffle.

It was quite vomit worthy, and he keeps pivoting to buses. Kemi should be pleased though.

Bridget Philipson looked like she was having violent thoughts. Her face was a picture. 😂

I can’t believe they went through all that for that.

As empty and pointless as anything. I can’t even dislike him that much, it makes Kemi’s job easier.

SheepinWolfsdress · 01/09/2026 16:39

Being totally shallow and ignoring all content he's so much easier to listen to.

Goodness knows what trouble starmer will cause in international affairs

CaveMum · 01/09/2026 12:37

KS has said he’s going to focus on International Affairs, probably been offered something by the UN or with something like David Milliband’s outfit, International Rescue Committee - I can’t take them seriously with that name: instantly makes me think of Thunderbirds!

He'll be under Van der Leyens thumb.

justasking111 · 01/09/2026 18:14

Speaking of Van der Leyen anyone heard her speech on manipulating EU members savings so banks are only allowed to invest in the EU economy. We're talking trillions here.

I have more respect for those that stick around as MPs after their time as PM.

Agreed...not surprised that Starmer won't.

SapphireCasino · 01/09/2026 19:33

It’s really interesting forming a picture of what happened in Parliament from all the comments you guys make 😂

EasternStandard · 01/09/2026 12:32

No. I remember when this site was hawking on about Rishi Sunak definitely going to the US. They got that wrong.

I liked him as PM, but I think he's doing even more for the UK now. We're so lucky to have him.

Time to batten down the financial hatches?

Chancellor Healey will need to either cut govt spending by 14 billion or raise taxes by 14 billion (paraphrasing) - well we know which way that’s going to go don’t we.

autumncrumbling · 02/09/2026 07:30

Yes the weather’s turned and you can hear the inevitable tax rises start to be floated…

CaveMum · 02/09/2026 07:45

Dan Neidle is this week’s TRIP Leading interview. Worth a listen.

Don't know how Labour have the nerve to mention Truss.

Lord O’Neill, a former Goldman Sachs economist who turned down an offer to join Mr Burnham’s Government, said “the tone” of the Prime Minister’s speech was “the last thing investors wanted to hear”.
"If it stays like this, the mortgage rates are going up”, he told LBC.

Borrowing costs highest for 30 years. Leading headlines. Labour are so arrogant that they think all is great.

Just hearing some terrible MP (can’t tell between that Labour type voice) talk about ‘pro business’ yeh of course, they fucked it after that first budget.

The only thing Labour are "pro" about for business is businesses paying more tax. If you have the cheek to employ someone outside the public sector then you will get punished for it.

Absolutely. Burnham’s answer to every question was more spending yesterday.
The last thing we need right now.

He’s a mess on this, but then he declared ‘what bond markets’ not long ago.

He’s finding out on his first day.

Yeah, he doesn't want to be in hock to the bond markets.
FAFO Burnham.

I did like Kemi’s comment that she hadn’t even been born when Thatcher was first elected, but Labour are still blaming Thatcher for the country’s woes.

Nuthatch26 · 02/09/2026 09:12

Tom Peck for The Times on Burnham's performance yesterday. Not a good start.

I’ve just read an opinion piece in the Daily Mail by Sarah Vine on Labour seemingly levelling down rather than the previously (and failed) Conservative-led Levelling Up initiative.
Isn’t this exactly what we all need, to have things to achieve and places to get? It certainly was the theme of my life, going from being the child of parents that left school at 12 and 14 for drab jobs, that achieved grammar school, a degree and a progressive career. My own DC have made their own way forward, both with presently secure futures.
But is that future in any way certain got my infant DGC? Will they be challenged in their education or will feral children disrupt the classroom? Will out of school experiences be available and affordable? Indeed, will life be affordable or increasingly become a struggle and a grind, making the welfare option seem an option?
I ask these questions with, for the first time, a slight uncertainly, as what we do as a supporting family may just not be good enough to allow them to flourish.
Just why are we allowing this to happen?

The immediacy of current issues is going to make the Thatcher stuff look tired pdq
