If Healey doesn't give Streeting 3%, surely Streeting has no option but to resign as well.

They both should resign in that case.

I can't see Healey resigning. We all can now his resignation before wasn't a moral stance it was about getting a promotion.

It's so, so bad for the UK for the government to be filled with obvious grifters. I thought Healey was one of the few principled ones, so I'm genuinely sad if that proves not to be the case.

I didn't think my opinion of Labour could sink any further, but it seems that there are always new depths...

Looking forward to parliament later today. I hope Kemi had her weetabix this morning.

Whilst Labour have been pretending that they have created 3000 more prison places, Alex Norris again refused to give the net figure this morning. The Conservatives are claiming that there are now 700 fewer places than a year ago, which Norris wouldn't confirm or deny.

Labour made a huge fuss about the net figure from the tories' time in office. Now the boot is on the other foot, silence.

We should all try that and see how successful we are!

Starmer stepping down as an MP. Not a surprise to me or many others I expect.

I have more respect for those that stick around as MPs after their time as PM.

No. I remember when this site was hawking on about Rishi Sunak definitely going to the US. They got that wrong.

KS has said he’s going to focus on International Affairs, probably been offered something by the UN or with something like David Milliband’s outfit, International Rescue Committee - I can’t take them seriously with that name: instantly makes me think of Thunderbirds!

Yes I saw that. So many think we can just keep pushing up borrowing. The servicing is a huge chunk of money.

The Chancellor still has time to mitigate some of this in the budget. Question is, will he?

I don’t feel much about Starmer stepping down. He’s entitled to, and as the victim of a coup walking away would seem reasonable and justified. But it does rather show that Starmer was only in parliament for himself: no long slog and dogged commitment to deep-seated values there, no attachment to the process of governing or of opposition.

His willingness to work for Corbyn showed what a grasper he is.

I think we can safely say that Burnham’s only in it for himself too. If he gets chucked overboard he won’t be sticking around for anything he considers too low rent for him, like representing his constituents. He took Corbyn’s shilling as well.

I wonder what they thought of him as an MP. He definitely does not have the commitment to the country that Rishi Sunak has. I never thought he was going to America. I suppose he might go eventually but I get the impression he’s genuinely fond of his constituency.

I can’t say I care what Starmer does either. I’m just glad he’s gone.

I know but what if he gets some other big international role that means we still have to hear from him regularly? That’s my worry😂

I was listening to a podcast on my way to work that was pointing out all the flashing red lights on the economy. Its very worrying, particularly govt borrowing costs and energy.
There was a suggestion that Burnham is hinting at a low-key budget to try and reassure the markets. They know whats coming down the tracks, and won't tolerate Labour splashing the cash. This will lead to big decisions like defence spending being kicked down the road which will annoy the public.

He may get something like that, but it would only be a passing job for as long as anyone associates him with the role of PM. Which won’t be very long. He’ll be quickly forgotten: when PMs are recalled it’ll be “oh yeah, and Starmer, I missed him out”.

He has no qualifications or track record for international diplomacy or clout. He just used to run (fly) off abroad when he felt the heat at home. Every international initiative he stuck his fingers in was a failure (Chagos, ‘the coalition of the willing’ 🙄 etc) or just a lame photo op.

The only genuinely worthwhile thing about Starmer’s airmile collecting was that it elbowed that embarrassment Lammy out of the way.

If I understood correctly the interview I heard on R4 this morning, when it comes to borrowing, the UK is nowhere near first in line for favourable rates (or even more lending) from investors who apparently currently have more than enough choice of where to lend their money.
