Happy bank holiday. I've had a very social and busy few days, so happy to be at home today. Just washing and pottering around in comfy clothes. Bliss 😊

Yes Patel has gone, replaced by Tom T. Mel Stride has gone, replaced by Andrew Griffiths. Claire Coutinhou will be AG's deputy as well as shadow business secretary when she returns from maternity leave next year. No word on Katie Lam yet, but looks like the reshuffle is well underway. Should be an interesting week ahead.

Yes, @Nuthatch26, Kemi seems to be assembling her shadow cabinet in anticipation of an early GA - unsurprising as various media outlets are reporting Burnham is being urged to call one to prove he has the electorate's backing for his proposals.

A GE ugh at that, in a year at least. Maybe Burnham is scared he’ll lose his bounce entirely.

He’s banking on the Green vote coming back and the right being split. I suspect he’s miscalculating though and would end up with a hung parliament, many fewer Labour seats and a very angry party.

He did say he understood the public wanted a break from elections, so we’ll see if his words mean diddly squat.

They always say no to an early election, but then things change.
The timing of this reshuffle has increased the chatter though.
I agree that it will likely backfire on Labour if they do. The bounce hasn't lasted, and was probably more relief that Starmer is gone rather than happy with AB.

Not sure. Mel Stride isn't very popular and seen as dull, but I really like him. I prefer Stride to Griffith for shadow chancellor.

I thought he articulated the problems well when listening to him. Idk much about the replacement.

Maybe they'll call one to avoid having to deal with the Budget! 😬

Yeh, I like Mel Stride's SM presence too. I'm not a fan of Griffith tbh, but we'll see.
Kemi seems to have put together a trio to lead on economics which is interesting. Griffiths, Coutinho and Fuller.

Perhaps every person involved in Starmer's job killing budget should be sacked too. Fine by me.

Reading an article on all this, it does seem to be about private sector experience which is a welcome change from the current Labour party.

I really rate Coutinho. She knows her brief and articulates it well.

Kemi is parking her tanks on Reform’s lawn with Katie Lam’s appointment.

I would have thought that shadowing Rayner would be a cushy number. It’s not as if Rayner is any great thinker, and she’s cocked up enough that she can hardly throw stones at opponents any more.

The more I think about Burnham’s cabinet the more useless and compromised it seems. Louise Haigh can’t be in post for long, for example. One slip up from her and it’s banishment to the backbenches again. I can’t see Streeting hanging around either, but for different reasons - he knows he’s been set up to fail, and failing is not something he can put up with. Better in his mind to plot and showboat.

Interesting developments - I like Tom T too he’s sensible.
