I do agree with this. My expectation is that, ultimately, the perception of Burnham will be that he cannot live up to the job he secured by his overweening ambition.

But I don’t think he’s as ghastly to listen to as Starmer (and Reeves even more so) and he can certainly present as a warmer character, whether that’s truly his temperament or not.

Andy Burhham is worse than Starmer, the policy ideas such as allowing Inspectors to enter peoples houses because they think they are Wealthy. This is something you would expect in post revolution China and after the Inspectors have found undeclared expensive watches etc perhaps you could do a deal with them such as let them have the watch, instead of 5 years in Prison. Starmer, knew these types of policies were to far and actually would not be tolerated by the likes of Lord Ali or the 'Wealthy' Socialists backing him. There were all for cracking down on the Middle Classes, as long as they little Cabal was largely safe. This guy comes from another planet, but because he speaks with a 'soft' Liverpool/Manchester twang, talks about the Busses and plays Smiths Songs on his Guitar people seem to think he is ok !

Andy Burhnam is categorically more dangerous to the United Kingdom than Kier Starmer ever or could be.

I think Burnham's dulcet tones tend to lead some people into a false sense of security and have contributed in no small part to his political standing.

He personifies 'Don't listen to what he's saying, look at what he's doing' (although I'd err on the side of caution and also listen to what he says while ignoring his soft northern burr).

Starmar's Wealthy Socialist Cabal were all for cracking down on the aspiring Working Classes and Middle Classes, as long as his friends in Hampstead, Notting Hill were largely left untouched. This with the exception perhaps of a few extra 'token' payments.

Notice that we’ve heard little from the Chancellor, John Healey. He must be knee deep in Reeves’s mess and trying to find a way out. Or maybe can’t find that way forward.
He seems a reasonable chap and it’s people like him that’ll mean sink or swim to AB.

AB at least does not do the “my dad was a toolmaker” thing ad nauseam. I know that policy is a completely separate issue. For myself I am just relieved Starmer has gone as I honestly don’t know how I would have got through the next few years.

I read somewhere that Reeves had left a ticking bomb that couldn't be undone. He can't borrow more money and has been painted into a corner.

It is lovely not seeing Starmer's face every time I read the news. Although I am also finding Burnham rather grating now. I follow him and it was fine when he was mayor. His bap video made me grind my teeth. Not what I want to see from a PM. Sorry, going against the grain.

There's one poster in particular who loves to call Kemi thick. Whatever you think of her politics, this is objectively untrue. And just makes that poster look bitter and, ironically, a bit thick.

Oh, @Nuthatch26, we went to Settle Booths this morning, after walking el doggo along the Ribble. It's more akin to Hesketh Bank / Kendal in size than somewhere a bit bigger like Burscough / Windermere. It seemed a bit short of stock as well in some areas, still managed to spend £100 though, whilst also forgetting the logs we needed!

Considering we're only here a few days, our fridge is now rammed! 🤣 We're on yellow sticker steak for dinner. 😋 DH went back in for the logs!

Those lads invoked involved in the Cleveland incident weren’t inherently bad, they’d just been failed by parenting, education, and the ongoing policies of recent governments. Looking at the display of local ‘honouring’ I’d say that there are plenty of others that have been failed in the same way.
Once, I’d imagine, they’d have been born to expect to follow their father down the mine or into the steelworks, with other jobs available. It was all ripped away in the 80s and these lads were the third generation to suffer the aftermath.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not misplaced sympathy for their demise, that lay with th two police officers, just a recognition of how f——d up we’ve all made this country.

They had quite a few convictions between them.

I would imagine that social services, YOT, probation and possibly others have tried to work with them.

As for jobs, yes, the traditional industries have been decimated, but at the same time millions of young people from everywhere in the world come here and manage to find employment.

I don’t know who is ultimately to blame for this tragedy, but surely they and their families have a lot to be responsible for.

Honoring a man (not a ‘lad’) who was pure scum - 37 convictions between the three adults in the group and not minor offences either. Reported to have ‘links (?) to the ‘travelling community’ - otherwise surely they would have been - and ought to have been - in jail.
