One of my DC realised that one EU grandparent may mean can get passport for that country.
Has done lots of research and in process of applying.
Hope succeeds and that DC can get it out of here to another country.

My son came out of university for minimum wage, went back, did his masters two year course so worked at the firm three days a week, university, two days. In January he got a 7p an hour pay rise.

After his masters results he asked the boss if he would get another pay rise. Nope he was told. He was sad but applied for four jobs, interviewed for two got both. He started with one two weeks ago and absolutely loves it. One of the directors is mentoring him, he sounds really interesting and involved. He's now on the correct salary for his skill set.

The clients they work for are suffering because construction contractors are going bust every week. It's quite frightening for everyone in the building business now.

Labour will not get these houses built unless they pay for materials, wages themselves.

My son has completed all the paperwork and is waiting to hear now. It covers the whole family so they'll all get European passports.

Narratives about PMs and senior ministers build. It’s lots of things swirling around: news coverage, cartoons, satirical articles, memes, social media, nicknames and so on. We have our (absolutely correct) preconceptions that politicians are power hungry bossy shysters. All of them.

But the really personal characteristics that most stick in the public mind are the ones that people most recognise in people they know. Gobby, a show off, slippery, creepy, vain, stupid, a fibber, etc etc. Starmer was just the dullest man, like loads of boring uncles.

My money’s on Burnham becoming a caricature ‘little man’ with ideas of grandeur but no talent. A useless, shamelessly self-promoting manager, a type we’ve all had to work for at some point.

I thought Starner’s boring nature was his selling point, as good as it got for him. The negative characteristics were spite, control, meanness. Just horrible

I can handle Burnham a bit more as I find the guitar stuff just silly, but also I don’t see much of it. Idk but I’m sticking with lower exposure as it’s way better not to see or hear Labour generally.

I never thought I’d see the day when the Leader of His Britannic Majesty’s Government strummed a guitar for the cameras on a visit to a country at war. How far we’ve fallen.

I totally agree that Starmer was all of those bad things. I couldn’t feel sorry for him.

But I think the general public contempt for him was based on him being dull, comically dull.

I do think that most of us thought he’d be competent and fair though, and he was neither. AB has some pressing domestic issues he needs to attend to…

No idea what he was playing, couldn't listen so kept it on mute. His facial expression made me recoil from my screen.

Great giff @NoWordForFluffy , sums up the toe curling shame of having a PM who wants to be validated as “a cool guy” by a bunch of desperate people in an existential war.

My own DC have US passports. DH and I do not. I am not sure what will happen, both are English and do not want to leave, but circumstances may pull them. I would miss them terribly.

I'm not even going to look as I can imagine the face. 😬😫 Very very cringeworthy.

I briefly saw the guitar playing and quickly switched to something else.

The policies might be the same or worse than under Starmer but I don’t find AB as irritating. He doesn’t have the patronising, condescending tone Starmer had when talking to the general public. I really do feel very relieved he’s gone and I don’t have to see him or rush for the remote when he appears on tv.

On the “could you see yourself having a drink in the pub with this man?” test, I actually could with AB

As we seem to be stuck with Labour for the next few years (it’s been a long 2 years hasn’t it?) I’m glad whichever Labour faction it was got rid of Starmer.

Yes I can handle AB more but Starmer really was excruciating.

I’m glad he was taken out, despite all the furore on here adamant he wouldn’t be.

One of bollard’s main issues is he treated everyone with contempt and luckily for us he got it back in spades. Until he was ousted.

Plus I just don’t see much of Burnham, which is great.
