DD has just been offered a job. She lost her last job working in a pub when they cut their opening hours due to costs. Its taken her 8 months to find another NMW job, 8 hours per week housekeeping. Fucking tragic out there for young people atm.

we need a radical new deal for them now…Kemi is right to target this, I can’t imagine graduating after all that hard work for years and finding I’m struggling to get a FT NMW salary…

I will never understand Labour's economic policies. They must have been told what impact it would have on jobs, even if they're too stupid to work it out themselves.

They have been told, the chief of Next said it was a disaster. Reeves responded (well, not a direct response, but commented not long afterwards) that her plans were good / working (or whatever fucking stupid phrase she kept trotting out).

Yeah, the constant gaslighting of young people was delightful wasn’t it. Nobody was buying it and we haven’t hit bottom yet.

My belief is too many young people have been encouraged to see university as the holy grail regardless of their academic ability.

IMO, the courses below are an example of why on the job learning can be the best route to a career. Creativity and talent can't be taught - you either have it or you don't.

The other issue is Labour have hit casual jobs for young people too. So hospitality and retail.

I can only hope a bit of panic is setting in, in number 10 north on jobs.

Does having a First in Football studies get you in the first team Squad for Arsenal or even Coventry ! What the Fuck is Football Studies. Is it the study of the History of Football the Statistical side, such as I used to know the Ground Capacities of all the 92 league clubs in 1987 . Who in the right mind thinks Football studies is going to get a job or role in Football even down selling Tea at half-time at the local Non-League Club.

But young people will reflexively vote left. They are being sold that the route to solving all their problems is shaking down billionaires. They are not being encouraged to think that they have inherent things to offer and just need the chance.

Perhaps, but the real world can sharpen the mind too. I was Labour all the way until I started paying my own bills. My luxury beliefs went out of the window at that point. 😂

Yes thats the issue DD is dealing with. I dread to think what she'll face after she graduates. Starter jobs are so important, and many need those jobs to support them through uni. Its bloody expensive!

Same @Nuthatch26 and just over time, the negative inter generational effects of relying on a govt payer, that dependency culture that isn’t helping the very people it’s supposed to help. if UC etc is such a success, why are that cohort of young people, especially boys, now failing so badly at school?

But Billionaires will just get in their planes and fly away ! This along with the Multi - Millionaires and then the Millionaires. Which means you are left with the higher earners over £100 k propping the whole country up. In essence a totally skint country and a very 'boring' one at the same time. I want to see 'Hyper Cars' Beautiful Hotels, Mansions lived in Super Yachts built in Plymouth and owned by UK based people. The country needs people who are able to buy a Ferrari on a 'whim' on a Monday Morning or buys a £15000 bottle of wine at a Restaurant in London. The very last thing any sensible Government would act in any negative way to stop such purchases, or to encourage those that have the means to purchase these goods in Florida or Dubai instead !

Yes, we're on the same page autumn. I am partial to a massive rant whenever I see/hear Labour banging on about how they've raised minimum wage for young people, and improved worker's rights.

And don't even think about passing anything down to your dc to help them.

Not surprised. Its so sad that its becoming normal for parents to encourage dc to leave the UK if they want to get on in life. I include myself in that group.

Haha, God loves a tryer! Other dc is crafting and selling stuff online. Online tutoring can be a good earner for students?
I've been paying dd to clean and dog walk, just to keep her going. She didn't want to be a nepo baby on a building site with me. 😂

Good for her! Although I’d take any foot in any door given this market! I do think tutoring is an idea that could work for her!
