Lovely slime mould, it's about the size of my hand. Not a comment on politics (though might suit a Garage thread 😄), just an interesting one I saw while checking dormouse boxes at the weekend.

Not sure he’s really demonstrating communication skills here this seems a bit halting. Hard to listen to. Tax when the PM has finished talking.

DuncinToffee · 20/07/2026 12:53

I've got to go, will catch up with everything later.

I expected more from that speech. He’s no orator.

BIossomtoes · 20/07/2026 12:56

Oh, that hug with his mum. ❤️

Efacsen · 20/07/2026 13:01

Nice to see all the children there too Smile

BestIsWest · 20/07/2026 13:02

Checking in, tax later.

I thought that too, but perhaps just nerves?

BIossomtoes · 20/07/2026 13:08

Possibly emotion. It must be a hugely emotional moment.

Cheguevarahamster · 20/07/2026 13:09

Thanks for the new thread. Tax to follow.

Notonthestairs · 20/07/2026 13:10

Building more council houses, end to rough sleeping (that unit was disbanded during the Tories first whack at austerity), fix privatisation, help with the cost of living, get young people in to work. Not bad priorities.

LizzieW1969 · 20/07/2026 13:12

Thank you for the new thread. Here’s my cat tax payment, my cat Lizzie on the sofa just before we left to go on holiday.

I haven’t been able to listen to the speeches yet, I’ll catch up on them later. It does sound like Starmer made a dignified exit, though.

What COL measures is he going to introduce, I wonder? Will be interesting to see.

MaybeMeansMaybe · 20/07/2026 13:14

I hope the king kept his hand on his ha'penny and his crown because if not, there is a fair chance that the next time we see Burnham, he will be wearing them!

baroqueandblue · 20/07/2026 13:17

Not sure how he said what he said is as important as the heart it had.

Desperately hoping this means positive change at long last.

That was a good speech, clear, and to the point.

Thanks for the shiny new thread.

Durham Cunty Hall is finally being decommissioned, ready for demolition, next year. There's sadness that the Durham history mosaic on the side won't be able the saved, due to asbestos. I figured it would be a rather splendid tax offering.

It might be a regional thing but "the king kept his hand on his ha'penny" conjures up a very bizarre image for me and Burnham wearing the king's ha'penny would require some type of surgery.

BTW, in case you don't know these threads are of course for anyone who wants to post, but they are mostly left-leaning. There is another series of threads specialising in people who hate Labour.
