I wanted Cameron (and Clegg) to succeed.

I wanted Theresa May to succeed.

I wanted Boris Johnson to succeed.

I wanted Liz Truss to succeed

I wanted Rishi Sunak to succeed.

I wanted Keir Starmer to succeed

I want Andy Burham to succeed.

I would happily be considered a poltroon and a flibbertigibbet for the few remaining years of my time on this awesome planet if any or all of them could succeed so that the hungry are fed, our children are safe, no one wants for shelter and we can look to export happiness, not division.

Amen, Jane. A-bloody-men.

Indeed.

Of course no one is the keeper of threads

What a shame, it's such a great title.

E2A: "Keeper of the Threads" sounds better. Should be someone in Game of Thrones.

A name change is tempting.

MaybeMeansMaybe I don't know how long you have been on MN, but maybe have a look at the history of these threads before having a go. I was just explaining that to pp as I know she is not a supporter of the left.

Temperance - a reminder that there will be many, many posters using a name change as an invisibility cloak.
Waste of your attention - certainly not worth your ire.

R.I.P Kevin Keegan a very talented man.

Who the hell is PAYING for all of this? Have you seen how much debt this country is in?

His priorities are a massive concern given he didn’t even mention the economy or reassurance that this is even a priority.

Edited

I read today that the pay multipier here between a medium paid full time worker and the CEO of a FTS 100 company is now at 130.

No way do these people work 130 times as hard as someone on a mediaan wage in the UK.

Stop blaming homeless people and the poor and start looking at the people hoovering up so much wealth they couldn't spend it in a lifetime. Oh, how the right loves to defend greed.

Careful, you'll all be accused of being Stepford Wives 😀

Very sad to hear that Kevin Keegan has died. Another - and perhaps the rightful- King of the North.

Yes, much loved in my house.

Most of us give him to Christmas at best, so he should enjoy the next few days because the honeymoon will be very brief indeed!

Especially without a mandate from the people, especially without an election - and most of the country have no idea who he is!!

So

Which is pretty funny all things considered.

Yes! I should have realised we would get visitors today. Sigh.

Because of my deep aversion to football I only remember his perm when I think of him.

I think it being ‘thread one’ could also be making some people click it. When it’s more obviously a long running thread it stops opportunists considering it.

Notonthestairs · 20/07/2026 16:07

I suppose there are concerns on the right given that the £5 million Standards Committee investigation is lurking in the long grass.
I assume the report will be finalised over the summer and early Autumn.

My fathers house has many rooms ...

My dad used to object t9 that translation. He preferred ‘many mansions’. He said his dad’s house had quite a few rooms (it didn’t, it was a miner’s 2 up 2 down but the rhetorical point is sound). Having ‘many mansions’ would be more impressive and wonderful (in the original sense of the word).
As you were.

About the same time we will find out if Burnham is up to his eyes in corruption with developers. It’s going to be very revealing very soon. Scrutiny. Good old scrutiny.

I still feel the non English title is a good deterrent. Seems to keep the critically challenged away.

Scrutiny is great, as long as it’s all round and not just of one side. If Burnham has done illegal things he should be charged. If Farage has, he should. If Badenoch has, she should. Any one of them (or us) who has broken the law should be charged. Can’t you understand that people can be anti corruption, not just anti corruption by people we don’t like?
