Thanks for the new thread. This new stretch of heatwave isn’t stopping until next week, ffs! 30s every day. I’m so so over it. It’s horribly depressing.

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2026 18:23

I’m over it too. The grass is going brown, everywhere is dusty and I can’t have a decent nights sleep.
It’s draining too.

I have to fucking take the poxy Tube! I hate it I hate it I hate it.
( in normal weather I think the Tube is a marvel).

I have an incredibly sweaty toddler and 2 elderly dogs and I caved and bought an air con unit it’s good as long as we are all stuck in one room all day and it’s misery lol

friedaklein · 06/07/2026 18:27

I also hate hot weather dressing. Any season I can"t wear jeans is a bad season.
Endless search for summer dresses that are not frilly, puff sleeved, polyester, garish prints, or with 6 yards of fabric in the skirt.

JenniferBooth · 06/07/2026 18:28

Was going to start one @the80sweregreat You beat me to it

tillyandmilly · 06/07/2026 18:30

Yep my sister is sneezing hayfever and to top it off is sweating in her job in a hospital- she is not happy!

mondaytosunday · 06/07/2026 18:31

I can survive if I have my portable fan pointing at me 24 hours a day. And I don’t go out unless essential! I may invest in one of those air conditioners but they’re several hundred pounds…I just think as soon as I invest in one we’ll have the three coolest summers in a row!
I bought my house five years ago with a north facing garden and planted think ‘shady, damp…’. when I should have been thinking ‘drought’.

garlictwist · 06/07/2026 18:35

I'm jealous. Cool. grey and windy here in Yorkshire.

Middlemarch123 · 06/07/2026 18:39

What has helped me is a foot spa, I actually remembered that in the garage I had a foot spa, about 10 years old, so I dusted it off, filled it with cold water and it’s really helped, much more than a fan which just rotates warm air. Think it’s because pulse in ankles is under cool water. They’re not expensive, Superdrug, Boots, Amazon all have them, under £30. Mine is a Revlon.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 06/07/2026 18:49

My single best purchase thus far is an emergency reflective blanket that I’ve taped to the back door which gets the full glare from the west. In an ideal world I’d put some in my living room windows but I face other flats and houses and I don’t think they’d like it much as it might rebound the sun onto them.

But my back door is cool to the touch even though it’s still boiling in here!

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2026 19:00

I agree that summer clothes are hideous on me. I am not the dress wearing type ( they don’t suit me) and can’t wear sandals due to my ridiculous feet. I do think this adds to my dislike of the hot weather as I can’t look cool because I don’t suit summer clothes and I just want to cover up too much. Some people can look fantastic when it’s hot.,

I have so much to do this week and genuinely have no idea how im going to do it in this heat!

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2026 19:04

I can’t do as much when it’s too hot. I don’t know how outside workers manage the heat. I feel sorry for them.

Ooh i remember when these were THE Christmas present. Speaking of Revlon i got a pair of their Smoothstay straighteners from Asda last year for £18 They are normally £40

Didnt think of using a foot spa

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2026 19:15

I put my feet in a bowl of iced water the other week ! It was bliss and did help to cool me down.
It’s the heat upstairs I’m struggling with the most and too noisy for a window to be open
I think I have an allergy to the sun and heat. Maybe I should try being more positve about it, but I can’t.

Did I mention I am menopausal and have hot flushes anyway? 😆

I’ve got a silentnight Restore cooling blanket on my bed and it’s great. Got it from Tesco last year on offer for thirty quid. I lay on it, really helps. Just googled and Argos have them in stock for forty five quid. I also got a set of pillow toppers which the cats cuddle up on. Hate stuffy warm bedroom too, bless you.

I don’t think it’s possible to be positive about it. It’s objectively disgusting.

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2026 19:49

I should look into the cooling blankets. I didn’t realize you could buy them tbh.

Am also finding the sleep thing more difficult because I’ve become used to sleeping with a weighted blanket, and a single top sheet isn’t helping me to drop off. I just want this whole thing to stop.

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2026 19:51

I can sympathize. I think they unless your lucky enough to have air conditioning, it is hard to sleep.

YES sleeping on top of the covers does the same to me plus this ear infection this time Im so fucking tired.
And ive got something important to do tomorrow

RampantIvy · 06/07/2026 19:55

I like summer, but the last heatwave was too much for me, but here in Yorkshire it is warmish and extremely windy. No sign of a heatwave.

ConstantlyFuriosa · 06/07/2026 19:56

Am also thinking of drastically reducing clutter and soft furnishings before next summer. I feel like throwing everything away as it is but probably better to wait until I can sort through things properly. I’m convinced that all the ‘stuff’ is making it hotter inside, though.
