I’m now deeply resentful that even my much needed break next week back is n west Wales is now going to be ruined by it. It was supposed to be a rest after the most horrific year what with bereavement, work issues and a mental breakdown exacerbated by the relentless heat and lack of sleep coupled with not having felt well for ten weeks now. I resent the whole summer and will literally shout at anyone who complains to me ever again that “we never get a summer “

No, it’s definitely dystopian. I mentioned this upthread in a kind of rich vs poor particularly in dystopian films where the Haves control the air and water while the Have Nots scrabble around in the dirt. It just makes me think we’re getting nearer to these sorts of scenarios with the hyper rich jetting round and living in their ivory air-conned towers, giving carte blanche to their rich mates to ‘drill, baby, drill’ because climate change won’t affect them. They can buy their way out of it.

My latest ailment from the heat is sore and watery eyes - they’re driving me mad! And I’m sure it’s because everywhere is so dry the wind is whipping up all the gritty dust and it’s going in my eyes!

Someone else mentioned the dust earlier and when I cleaned the kitchen this afternoon, sure enough there was a fine film of brownish dust over the top of my kettle and coffee machine. I’m guessing because they’re closest to the open window.

Feel very supported by this thread and it is interesting but troubling to read that i am not the only one noticing things like the dust, it is in my bathroom as i do open the window in the evenings and I have the same issue in my bedroom. Again, I open the window in the evening and have noticed dust coming in. I think it is because the air is so still, there has been no rain since heaven knows to dampen things down and freshen the air. Humidity is horrible here today, my hair which was washed yesterday evening and looked reasonable now resembles fairground candyfloss and my normally smooth fringe had curled into strands that look like snails crawling acoss my forehead!

Makes me want to thump them, just as well I am too hot and tired to tackle anyone who comes out with such selfish nonsense. I have emailed ITV Central News to complain about the endless upbeat and one-sided coverage of the "glorious summer" that never mentions the increasing negative consequences for health, wildlife and the environment

Imagine their reaction this winter if we got snow for two months They would not be saying how rare it is even though it is for the SE

other people in the building are starting to say openly that they're really struggling now. They're mostly 20s and 30s. I often feel like the building granny 😂

even if you're out most of the day, it's not right to be breathing in this hot humid air all the time. One of them is a surgeon and she was saying that she's looking forward to the days with longer surgeries because the operating theatre is so cold.

Two months of snow sounds pretty heavenly to me!

After the last few weeks of enduring 35+ temps every day, today we have arrived in Belgium where it is now early to mid 20s. It feels amazing tbh, after what we have lived through. We must be acclimatising a bit as I almost feel… chilly.

And this is exactly what maddens me - the “we never get a summer crowd!”😡

Yes, right now, I’d take the two months of snow as well!
