Guess my age

No this isn't going to be one of those threads where I post a photograph and ask you to say how old you think I look.

I just thought for a bit of fun for anyone who like me has too much time on their hands, I would post a few facts about myself and see if you can guess my age.

I will post odd random facts over the next day, then tell you my age tomorrow.

This is a new user name, in case I have mentioned my age in previous post.

Fact 1) My mother used to wear dresses made of crimplene.

Fact 2) My father used to ride a bike and wore cycle clips to stop his trousets from getting caught in the cycle chain.

Where your parents older parents?
My Grandparenrs were born before the first world war and my mum would have been 84 now
The liking Jackie has thrown me a bit
I read it in the 80s but it might have going since the 60s

I'm not going to tell you at this stage how old my parents were when I was born.

60s, I'm 40 and don't know those things.

chirrupybird · 18/06/2026 15:24

85

About 55. Could be older.

That would put her parents at age 60+ when they had her!!

FruAashild · 18/06/2026 15:25

So if your parents were born pre-WW1 the youngest they would be now (assuming still alive) is 112. If they had you at 16 you'd be 96, if they'd had you at 50 you'd be 62 (it is believed the oldest woman ever to gave birth after conceiving naturally was Dawn Brooke who gave birth at 59 in 1997). All of those ages could have got your pocket money. Decimalisation happened in 1971. Jackie magazine was published from 1964 to 1993. So, you are unlikely to be older than 80. I'm guessing 72.

openthefrontdoor · 18/06/2026 15:25

Next fact - I bought my first house at about age 27 or 28 and it cost £24,000.

75

herbalteabag · 18/06/2026 15:27

81?

Dozycuntlaters · 18/06/2026 15:27

Ok if you don't mind me going older then, I'm gonna go for 88. I reckon your mum was born about 1913 so guessing you were born about 1937 before WW2.

UrsulaBelle · 18/06/2026 15:28

I bought my first house for £24,000 in Wales when I was 23, so perhaps 67, with very old parents?

Glad you are enjoying the concept of my thread.

My first house was in Bedfordshire.

Your facts sound similar to my mother so I’m going to guess 77.

Me too. I rolled my eyes at the thread title but this is so much fun.

UrsulaBelle · 18/06/2026 15:31

Bedfordshire, huh? So probably late 1970s/early 1980s. So back to 73?

Oh my god mum, I can't believe you are on here!!

82 and still got it ;-)

bugalugs45 · 18/06/2026 15:34

Well I’m going to guess you bought house in the early 80s so I’m going with you being 72

When I was about to post, Mumsnet suggested an edit to something like "guess my age from a few fun facts", but I opted to keep it as what I had put and thought people would roll their eyes and think it was another of those threads with a photo. I'm not going to post a photo of me!

Each answer confuses me more. My grandparents were born just before WW1 and my parents bought their first house at around your age but it was only 5k...and you liked Jackie.

So maybe you are 75, your first home was a lush pad in Mayfair and you liked Jackie because you had kids who read it with you!
