Preston Davey - whole life term for murderer and 25 years for the partner.
Let’s hope and pray yet again things change so no more poor babies and children die.

My point is that babies are in the care system for lots of reasons.

Those reasons shouldn’t have any bearing on how well the baby’s are treated.

It shouldn’t be part of this conversation.

And any way we are talking about this specific case. And Preston's mother, a murderer herself, also failed preston

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 18/06/2026 15:07

I agree with the PP, do NOT read details online (X etc) about the harrowing details. Just don't. 😢💔

I’m honestly speechless that this is where people’s minds go.

He was raped to death but his mother couldn’t have expected more for him because she is a murderer too?

Fucking hell

PropertyD · 18/06/2026 15:08

I agree with others - that Mother failed her child too by the decisions she took in her life

It's sad. In one way, he's better off. He's out of suffering.

I was extremely abused as a child. I'm 45 now. I'm severely emotionally damaged. My life has been nothing but pain and misery. It wasn't a worth while life.

My brother who went through the same childhood, is the same, he sits at home all day, unemployed, he is grossly overweight. He can't get over what happened to him as a child and he talks about wanting to die, he talks about wanting to do euthanasia a lot. We have never healed.

Abusive people cause life long issues in people

Edited

I'm so sorry to hear that you and your brother have suffered that. x

KevinsSignatureShortdeads · 18/06/2026 15:09

My heart breaks for this poor little boy. It also horrifies me to think of all the children and babies being sexually abused and tortured who feature in the innumerable reports about paedophiles found with child sexual abuse images on their devices.

My thoughts are also with those of you on this thread who suffered abuse as children. I’m so sorry for what you went through.

WearyAuldWumman · 18/06/2026 15:09

This strikes home.

My late husband's son was adopted by him and his first wife. (They divorced after their children had grown up and left home.)

They got the boy when he was about 2. His foster carers had wanted to adopt him but had been turned down. Apparently there had been accidents of some kind. He'd needed plastic surgery on an ear and on a hand which had been burnt when he'd touched a hot iron. (They'd got him as a baby, so I think the accidents had happened with the foster carers.)

My husband said he felt sorry for them - they'd never fostered again. Somehow they managed to trace the family and turned up on their doorstep begging to see the boy when he was 7. They'd taken him for an ice cream and then brought the boy home - that was the one and only time.

I look at this case, think about the two accidents and find myself wondering.

What the fu..ck are you on about. So weird. No one wrote that.

Me and several other posters have all written the same thing now "the mother failed preston aswell with her actions".

No one anywhere wrote that she expected her son to be adopted by rapists . Beyond weird!

Theredjellybean · 18/06/2026 15:13

The saddest thing is the whole inevitability of it.
The lessons learnt that clearly have not been learnt.
The safeguards and checks supposedly put in place after Victoria C case ...not done.

No child that age should have 3-4 hospital admissions in short space of time without it flagging to safeguarding/ GP/ social worker if they have one....and especially a newly adopted baby FFS.

It's routine to flag if a child has had a previous admission in the last 12 months to a&e.
My DD had several with random injuries...she was 15 and self harming and known to cahms as she has an eating disorder. We were both absolutely honest with a&e staff about all this...they still sent social services to see us.

So how in gods name has another baby "slipped " through the net

Why do you want to see it?

I hope they live to a ripe old age in prison, surviving multiple attempts on their lives, torture and abuse. I hope they live til their 90s in constant fear, disabled by previous attacks. Death penalty is WAY too good for them both.

Times infinity.

Id like to be assured that he won't be getting his teachers' pension also.

he won't lose it. However, he won't be allowed to receive it while he's in prison. so essentially, he'll never get it. It'll just build up while he's in there but he won't be able to access it.

I guess at some point whoever gets his inheritance will receive it.

The couple had the Instagram life, gorgeous home with fabulous photos.

That's a trigger warning in itself is my view.

I agree with this actually. I have friends like this. You are fearful to sit for fear of squashing their carefully placed cushion.. Everything is curated and style and spotlessness is revered.

There is nothing wrong with this ofc, but the friends I have wouldn't even get a kitten for fear of the inevitable disruption it would cause. If they turned around and told me they were adopting a baby, I would have serious cause for concern.

Not because I fear they are wicked perverts, but because their priorities couldn't possibly shift in such a way that could accommodate a baby.

It is a nuance that should have been considered. I could write more but I would meet accusations of homophobia. I have Lesbian couple friends too and my thoughts on them and their priorities and how they present themselves, is starkly different.

It’s irrelevant how he ended up in care. Whether his mother is deemed virtuous.

He should have been safe.

Ohcrap082024 · 18/06/2026 14:52

But he was a teacher. An experienced one at that. He would have had safe guarding training on multiple occasions through his job. He knew what abuse looked like. He chose to do what he did.

And because of his job and the safe guarding training that goes along with it, he would have known exactly what to say and do in front of fellow professionals.

You are right that no one was checking him because who would suspect a teacher? It certainly appears that the number of professionals Preston came into contact with in those last 4 months forgot to ask the questions when presented with the situation.

This is not a case of 2 adults with limited education, intelligence and life experiences whose childhood abuse rendered them not knowing any better.

What they did was sadistic and for their own sexual gratification.

Data shows over 1500 teachers on the sex offenders register. DBS does not guarantee no abusers will be employed. They are far too clever to start with and who knows how many more are out there abusing children.
Edit: current case in Leeds of man investigated for abuse in nursery gets a job in another.

The social worker who saw Preston just before he died was unable to examine his body, she would have needed to take him to A&E.

Do Social workers need more powers? Often we see posters on MN complaining that SW have been over zealous if they receive a visit following someone reporting concerns, surely as a society we need to get over the embarrassment and parents should be encouraged to welcome SW.

What practical steps can we take to protect more children? Is the issue lack of funding?

I should have been safe too. No one checked on me as a child, not once,

This case is the one currently in the news. As we all know, there are thousands of child abuse cases.

Not enough is being done

I suspect their lives will be made hell in prison- perhaps more appropriate.

Let's hope, but they will probably be put in solitary.

moto748e · 18/06/2026 15:31

This thread brought to mind Victoria Climbié. Amazed to find, that was 26 years ago. From wiki:

Victoria would be forced to sleep bound in a black bin-liner filled with her own excrement in an unheated bathroom. They burned her with cigarettes and scalded her with hot water, starved her, tied her up for periods longer than 24 hours, and hit her with bike chains, hammers, wires, shoes, belt buckles, coat hangers, wooden spoons, and their bare hands. Whenever she was fed, she would be forced to eat like a dog.[1] On some occasions the couple would throw food at her and make her catch it in her mouth.

And lessons are always learnt.

VirginiaBellamy · 18/06/2026 15:33

I am relieved/ pleased that JV has received a Whole Life Order.
Anything less would be a travesty.
JMF… I actually know him and his parents slightly and again I think that he deserved nothing less than the sentence passed.
I hope he serves it.

Death penalty for what though? All men who use physical and sexual abuse against children, including downloading and watching images? All of the historical cases as well? That's thousands of men a year for a start.

“Death penalty for what though”
Are you serious?
This thread is about Preston Davey and the sentencing of his abusers and ultimately his murderers. The death penalty for that!

Cyclebabble · 18/06/2026 15:34

Hopefully off to Strangeways where he can be sure of a very warm Manchester welcome. He cannot be protected 24/7.

Why are people shocked though. Humans in general are not nice to those weaker than them .

There is widespread abuse of women and children. We are a cruel race, we are not nice to each other,

Apart from abuse, their is coldness and selfishness everywhere you look.

We all need to be better. Be kinder. We also need to look out for and report abuse more

Is this real?

The shock is that anyone would actively harm a baby.

This thread, and site, is full of parents. Parents who have done the wakeful nights, calmed the tantrums, listened to the attitude, given their toddler their lunch on the “wrong plate,” and felt all of the warts and all frustrations that being a parent can bring.

Not one of us would ever consider resorting to this disgusting level. Not one of us would treat our babies, or children, in such a vile way.

It’s got absolutely nothing to do with being biologically related to those children either, because I adopted my son, and I would never.
