Preston Davey - whole life term for murderer and 25 years for the partner.
Let’s hope and pray yet again things change so no more poor babies and children die.

Don't get me wrong, a whole life sentence and a 25 year sentence is entirely appropriate for the shocking and horrific way Preston Davey died.

No, it’s not. Fazakerley was sexually abusing Preston, as well. The post-mortem proved it from stomach contents, also that Preston had a ruptured colon and had likely had his airway blocked on a previous occasion, Who knows which of them was responsible for what? They should both have been dealt with equally, and I shall be requesting a sentence review, as any member of the public can. More appropriate for him would have been a life sentence with a minimum tariff of 25 years. He’ll be eligible for parole in 16/17 years time.

Hi I was just reading through all the articles. Where does it say about stomach contents. I can't see it

Yes another thing is I think that the authorities made excuses because the dads were in "good jobs" . One was a teacher.

If it was minimum wage Jim and Joe from the council estate, they probably wouldn't even be allowed to adopt a child. And if there was one bruise on the baby , the baby would have been taken off them..

The Class system is also failing children.

Yes there is a lot of bias for and against people because of their background and job it's hard to be objective about it as we all have biases but it is likely one of the reasons they avoided scrutiny on the occasions he went to hospital.

No excuses can be made for this evil, vile pair!

I'm not taking about the sexual abuse. Paedophiles are everywhere and are repugnant

I'm saying that he showed many signs that he was not coping with the baby. He told many people. His friends, colleagues and family should also have stepped in and reported this

Edited

I don’t think not coping is (or should be expected to be) synonymous with abuse.

I don’t always cope with my son, and I do make that known.

The suspicion would never, ever be anything like this.

I would assume that the people around them didn’t think not coping was worthy of reporting, many parents struggle, and it’s not a given that it would link to this horrific outcome.

kellymoon44 · 18/06/2026 14:24

RIP Preston. I'm sorry you went through it.

From me, a person who was also tortured, abused and sexually abused as a child. I survived.

I really feel for that baby :(. Too much child abuse in the world

He told a colleague that he was coping so badly that he felt like killing Preston.

That one should definitely have been reported

Okay well how far do you take it? Do you want prisoners killing each other? Or just these ones because you are outraged?

How about we just bring back the death penalty. Job done! Bring back hanging because that is all they deserve. Why should the taxpayer pay to keep these bastards in prison? They’re the scum of the earth!

upinaballoon · 18/06/2026 14:28

Sunglade · 18/06/2026 13:33

I actually feel really bad for the prison workers as they are employed (with shit pay) to actually keep people like these safe in prison and yet they risk harm to themselves just being in their workplace. I hope no harm comes to the officers.

When I was a lot younger I told Someone that I thought that life should mean life. The reply was, "Do you want to be the prison officer who has to deal with the lifers who have nothing to lose?". It made me think. Will these two be in cells with other people? Will they mix with others sometimes?

What as a society can we do about the epidemic of child abuse?. I was severely abused as a child. Not one organisation or social worker ever checked on me.

Should we have mandatory checks on all children?

Death penalty for what though? All men who use physical and sexual abuse against children, including downloading and watching images? All of the historical cases as well? That's thousands of men a year for a start.

I beg your pardon, it was Varley who was incriminated by the stomach contents. The other one’s sperm was found on the baby’s cot. I still stand by my assertion that the pair should have been dealt with equally. Nothing will convince me that they weren’t acting as a team.

kellymoon44 · 18/06/2026 14:32

The thing is people often don't even see their own abusive ways, as they are so used to being like that. And also, no one is checking them

My friend was talking to me about how bad the preston davey case was. Then in the next breath, she called her 9 year old daughter fat. Her daughter started crying

Too many adults abuse their power over children, or just keep doing what they are doing, because no one is checking them

Newsenmum · 18/06/2026 14:33

That is a massive red flag. But I can also see why it would seem like an overreaction to report it.

Varley had the baby for less than four months before he killed him. It’s incredible to me that with several hospital visits no investigation occurred, no increased frequency of visits. How many babies break their arm? It is so rare.

How often did the social workers check in on the baby and Varley in that period? I would expect a new adoptive parent with a vulnerable baby who has been cut off from his foster family (and therefore likely to be very clingy and upset and unsettled) and had a poorly/unexplained injured would have a lot of observation, perhaps including help at night.

If inexperienced adoptive parents are chosen then I do not think they should be given a newborn. I think all placements should be Foster To Adopt and very heavily supervised.

Plenty of women abuse children. Adults in general have been awful to children. Adults need to be checked more

It's because varley was a teacher . I'm sure of it

I think we need to be very careful to not compare calling children fat (which is disgusting, and verbal abuse) with what happened to this little boy.

There really is no comparison.

MummyWins · 18/06/2026 14:39

When one of my dc was born there was a birth injury in the birth canal causing bruising. Since the midwives were unsure why so I had to stay in hospital with dc for four days to check no more bruising occurred ie to be sure the baby didn’t have some kind of bleeding disorder, as “if the baby had any new bruising after going home with you, it would bring social workers down like a ton of bricks if the health visitor saw it”.

So how on earth did a little adopted baby have a broken arm and it wasn’t considered extremely worrying?

It should have been caught.

FlyingApple · 18/06/2026 14:40

Nothing will change, lessons won't be learnt.

If no-one sounded the alarm over this poor baby, imagine how many are abused but not quite to this extent that are under the radar. It's gut wrenching.

Youre missing the point. There is a widespread, epidemic of child abuse.

Parents need to be checked more in general.

MummyWins · 18/06/2026 14:42

@FlyingApple agree. This baby was killed; how many more are still living through torture and abuse? It is unthinkable.

And yes it will keep happening.

"both these men were fully capable of choosing their actions. And not showing signs of being traumatized"

Didn't Jamie Varley say several times to friends, family and colleagues that he wasn't coping well with the baby. He wrote that the baby was a bad sleeper and he was not coping.

Edited

Almost all new parents have difficult moments and many will say that they feel that they are not coping. Tonight, there will be thousands of adults up and down the country who have a shit night sleep because of their babies and toddlers. The fact that Varley tried to use a lack of sleep as a way of excusing his behaviour adds to his sadism. He was essentially placing the blame on Preston.

Both men would have had pre-adoption training and meetings in which sleep etc would have been discussed. The lack of sleep is in no way justification for what those monsters did.
