Preston Davey - whole life term for murderer and 25 years for the partner.
Let’s hope and pray yet again things change so no more poor babies and children die.

Plenty of people are weighing in about it on this thread.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5543578-aibu-men-should-not-be-allowed-to-adopt-or-foster-children-unless-theyre-with-a-woman-safeguarding-first?page=12&reply=152996406

Ultimately it won’t stop it happening again

TigTails · 18/06/2026 12:59

It would not be sad if they were killed in prison.

Okay well how far do you take it? Do you want prisoners killing each other? Or just these ones because you are outraged?

Staffygirl · 18/06/2026 13:04

I don't think a story has affected me as much as this one....
poor little lad didn't stand a chance - from the mother who gave birth to him to the adopted parents.
I just wish he could have gone to loving parents who would have given him a happy life...

I suspect their lives will be made hell in prison- perhaps more appropriate.

Fingers crossed. Absolutely disgusting human beings. The poor little boy. They deserve everything that comes their way. And I have absolutely no shame in feeling that way!

I’m not saying it’s right, just that it’d be no tragedy.

Ah well nevermind.

Dmsandfloatydress · 18/06/2026 13:10

I hope they live to a ripe old age in prison, surviving multiple attempts on their lives, torture and abuse. I hope they live til their 90s in constant fear, disabled by previous attacks. Death penalty is WAY too good for them both.

Fiddlesticks1 · 18/06/2026 13:10

Anarchy99 · 18/06/2026 12:58

It’s not about the gender of these people it’s about the number of babies and children that have died at the hands of abusers, be it physical, emotional or sexual abuse. Abusers come in all manner of guises and I well remember the Maria Colwell case. Nothing has changed, in fact I suspect data will show that it has got worse.
NSPCC: Not allowing me to paste data but 65 on average a year are murdered.
shocking statistic.

OP posts:
Fiddlesticks1 · 18/06/2026 13:20

Looking at data from NsPCC. Since 1973, on average 52 babies and children killed a year so that means around 2,700 in 53 years. Depressing that nothing has changed.
Lots of stuff about domestic violence and names of women killed read out in parliament each year. Same thing needs to happen for all these poor innocent children. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Vintlet · 18/06/2026 13:23

I agree with @Fiddlesticks1
MPs need to read aloud the names each year of the murdered children.

MarshaMarshaMarsha · 18/06/2026 13:24

The bbc have just shared a video of Preston giggling with his foster parents before he went to that vile couple. Really hard to watch. The poor, poor baby.

SparklyGlitterballs · 18/06/2026 13:28

As I said on the other Preston Davey thread, I hope they spend every single day shaking with fear, anticipating what will inevitably happen when another lag gets the opportunity. They are marked men.

Sunglade · 18/06/2026 13:33

I actually feel really bad for the prison workers as they are employed (with shit pay) to actually keep people like these safe in prison and yet they risk harm to themselves just being in their workplace. I hope no harm comes to the officers.

It is utterly depressing. No improvement in the levels of male violence toward women and children in decades. It’s currently fashionable to blame immigrants or Andrew Tate or whatever but the truth is we have an endemic male violence problem that has spanned many many years, predating the internet and phones. Look at the regularity of the ‘men are bastards’ threads on MN. That’s depressing too but who could blame us?

Mylastusernamewasbetter · 18/06/2026 13:43

The videos of that baby on the news rn. I'm actually having a cry. He looks just like my own LO.

To be given such a beautiful wee boy and be so cruel. (Referring to his murderers)

I remember Maria Colwell. I was a few months older than her, with a Dad who gave me my turn with the morning paper (which is why I remember the case,) while that poor little mite's parents gave her nothing but pain and terror. Her step-father was only interested in using her as a punch-bag and for that, he was convicted of manslaughter and given 8 years, of which he served half. It's of no comfort to Preston Davey's killers, but one has the whole life tariff and the other will have a lot of birthdays behind bars. It serves them both right. I wish them both very long lives.

KnitFastDieWarm · 18/06/2026 13:48

I’m against the death penalty and believe in fair and ethical treatment of prisoners.

That said, I’d happily kill these men with my bare hands. What they did to that child is so monstrous that it defies rational comprehension.

TigTails · 18/06/2026 12:59

I would. If prisons aren’t safe for all prisoners they’re not safe for anybody including those on remand who haven’t been convicted of anything and the staff.

Can you describe what a loving, happy family is that will be willing to adopt babies born into abusive households?

Don't get me wrong, a whole life sentence and a 25 year sentence is entirely appropriate for the shocking and horrific way Preston Davey died.

TigTails · 18/06/2026 12:59

It would not be sad if they were killed in prison.

Only after suffering what they put that baby through. TV and media can't comment on every injury.
We know what they did.

I hope there is a massive man in both prisons ready to teach them a lesson.

But let them live. Off to the infirmary to recover and back in circulation again.

I hope they break, tear and cry out hoping for some love as they die slowly and painfully.

I hope they beg for a noose.

kellymoon44 · 18/06/2026 13:54

I've reached a stage where I can understand how those two men got to be like how they are. I grew up in a very abusive home and I did a huge amount of healing and research. Those men were more than likely - severelyabused themselves as children. This hardens people and makes them become cruel.

As a society , we are all failing children. What is making adults be cruel to children? Too much pressure on adults, not enough help. Also people were abused themselves and copy behaviour,

Jamie Varley in this instance said he couldn't cope with looking after the baby. In this case the men were extra disgusting. But it is society that needs to change.

How can we all improve as a society. We need to give more support to parents so they are more able to cope. My aunt was abusive to her son when he was a child. I saw her constantly shout at him and show him no live. When I was older, she told me that she found it too difficult and couldn't cope
