Preston Davey - whole life term for murderer and 25 years for the partner.
Let’s hope and pray yet again things change so no more poor babies and children die.

I genuinely would not mind these receiving the death penalty

@FlyingApple agree. This baby was killed; how many more are still living through torture and abuse? It is unthinkable.

And yes it will keep happening.

I was tortured and abused as a child. At the time it becomes normal, as this all the child knows. You live to survive every day.

It's later on, I looked back , and think, that was extreme abuse

It would not be sad if they were killed in prison.

Who would you like to do that for you?

I suggest you don't read any more, if I could erase the details from my mind I would and I didn't even read all of it..

I am pleased to say that I know only the basic details as in injuries and sexual abuse and I'm not going to try to find out any more. I try not to hide my head in the sand but there are times when you just do if you can.
I once did jury service (theft case) and was surprised to find a notice in the jurors' room, offering counselling if jurors felt they needed it. Up until then I hadn't thought about some vile details that some jurors might have to hear.

PropertyD · 18/06/2026 14:46

I do think the authorites were giving these two men every chance. Whereas as someone else says - Jo and Jean living on a council estate wouldnt get those chances. And I also think two gay men were a tick for the authorities to show anyone could adopt. Clearly these two evil scumbags encouraged each other.

Baby Preston was a plaything for them both. Semen on the cot - for gods sake. What type of monsters were they?

cramptramp · 18/06/2026 14:47

Fiddlesticks1 · 18/06/2026 13:04

I suspect their lives will be made hell in prison- perhaps more appropriate.

It depends where they are placed. I’d rather they live in fear every day.

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 18/06/2026 14:48

Whenever I think of this story my whole heart is filled with sadness, I immediately think of my two little ones and wonder how anyone could be capable of such evil and depraved behaviour. I wish I had the capacity to adopt just to try and prevent as many things like this happening as possible. Poor poor darling little boy, it really breaks my heart to think he could’ve gone on to live a wonderful life if he’d only been placed in another set of hands, he could’ve had the fantastic life that he deserved. I hope the bastards have utterly miserable lives and go on to burn in hell

It's sad. In one way, he's better off. He's out of suffering.

I was extremely abused as a child. I'm 45 now. I'm severely emotionally damaged. My life has been nothing but pain and misery. It wasn't a worth while life.

My brother who went through the same childhood, is the same, he sits at home all day, unemployed, he is grossly overweight. He can't get over what happened to him as a child and he talks about wanting to die, he talks about wanting to do euthanasia a lot. We have never healed.

Abusive people cause life long issues in people

Ohcrap082024 · 18/06/2026 14:52

kellymoon44 · 18/06/2026 14:32

The thing is people often don't even see their own abusive ways, as they are so used to being like that. And also, no one is checking them

My friend was talking to me about how bad the preston davey case was. Then in the next breath, she called her 9 year old daughter fat. Her daughter started crying

Too many adults abuse their power over children, or just keep doing what they are doing, because no one is checking them

Edited

But he was a teacher. An experienced one at that. He would have had safe guarding training on multiple occasions through his job. He knew what abuse looked like. He chose to do what he did.

And because of his job and the safe guarding training that goes along with it, he would have known exactly what to say and do in front of fellow professionals.

You are right that no one was checking him because who would suspect a teacher? It certainly appears that the number of professionals Preston came into contact with in those last 4 months forgot to ask the questions when presented with the situation.

This is not a case of 2 adults with limited education, intelligence and life experiences whose childhood abuse rendered them not knowing any better.

What they did was sadistic and for their own sexual gratification.

GreenCandleWax · 18/06/2026 14:52

Tortielady · 18/06/2026 13:48

I remember Maria Colwell. I was a few months older than her, with a Dad who gave me my turn with the morning paper (which is why I remember the case,) while that poor little mite's parents gave her nothing but pain and terror. Her step-father was only interested in using her as a punch-bag and for that, he was convicted of manslaughter and given 8 years, of which he served half. It's of no comfort to Preston Davey's killers, but one has the whole life tariff and the other will have a lot of birthdays behind bars. It serves them both right. I wish them both very long lives.

I remember that awful case too, and also the pathetic "lessons will be learned" statement afterwards. Yet dozens maybe hundreds more cases have happened since, nothing seems to have changed and every time there is another tragedy with a young life, its "lessons will be learned" again. And its nothing technical or difficult - usually an absence of communication between different people, agencies and organisations. Now we have the added complication of wokeness that skews sensible decision making and responsibility. As with rape gangs and fears of being seen as racist, with this case it is likely that reluctance to protect poor Preston was due to fear of being seen as homophobic. But what kind of adult puts their own reputation that might possibly be questioned over something untrue, over and above the safety of a baby? Shameful all round. Name and shame all who let him down.

The couple had the Instagram life, gorgeous home with fabulous photos.

That's a trigger warning in itself is my view.

Lifeomars · 18/06/2026 14:55

Sunglade · 18/06/2026 14:18

It's cases like these that can actually permanently change your view of people in general. I'm trying at the moment to not read too much news and try to focus on the good people do because I've been so shaken by this. Anger, disgust and so much sadness combined and I know many others have reacted the same to this.

I hear you. A family member recently had a baby boy who we all adore and I had to stop reading about the horrendous and vile abuse of Preston as it just makes me weep thinking of his suffering. I cannot fathom the depravity of some people

I don't think a story has affected me as much as this one....
poor little lad didn't stand a chance - from the mother who gave birth to him to the adopted parents.
I just wish he could have gone to loving parents who would have given him a happy life...

The birth mother is now being allowed to make statements about never forgiving etc etc omitting the fact that it was her actions that led to him being adopted in the first place. The fault starts with her.

kellymoon44 · 18/06/2026 14:58

Rip Preston. May your life hopefully make a change in how children are checked

Incomparable to what those monsters did to that baby.
We have to be able to trust the authorities to ensure children in these circumstances are safe. This is a huge failure and I can’t imagine how painful it is for his mother, regardless of her own crimes. This isn’t just “punishment” for her actions.

I have to say I agree with this sentiment. What she had done previously was horrendous and what the hell was she doing bringing a child into the mess that was her life.

Well the birth mother also could have got her sh...it together to look after her baby. She didnt

Makes me wonder what he was like as a teacher and what drew him to the profession, you don't suddenly wake up one morning and become a child abuser

So if the baby’s mum was a saint and had died of natural causes, you’d feel more sorry for him?

What are you even talking about?

It’s disgusting

My point is that babies are in the care system for lots of reasons.

Those reasons shouldn’t have any bearing on how well the baby’s are treated.

It shouldn’t be part of this conversation.

Babies are in the care system mostly because their birth parents failed them in some way
