Preston Davey - whole life term for murderer and 25 years for the partner.
Let’s hope and pray yet again things change so no more poor babies and children die.

It's been happening since the dawn of time and yes, it's mainly men who do it.

Yes but it's getting worse, we are hearing so much now about abused and murdered children. Maybe it also coincides with the breakdown of the family and the stability of children's lives.
Not many murdered children come from happy homes where mum and dad arearried and siblings have the same father

What do you think we can do to help?

Should there be checks on every child's well-being at home?

I don’t believe they lost control.

there has been some homophobia on this thread - people wondering about why a male couple were able to adopt at all for instance.

but I think most people are trying to understand what the hell is going on that something so unbelievably cruel could happen.

unfortunately I know a bit about paedophilia in a professional capacity. Firstly it is another layer after sexual orientation- so some favour boys and othered girls. Some will look for post pubescent children, others pre. Babies are another thing again.

in general, the younger the child, the harder to treat and stop the behaviour.

I don’t know if they had paedophilic material. I am not sure that they are paedophiles. There is a significant amount of people who sexually assault children who are more attracted by sadistic opportunities than sexual interest.

none of this is an excuse. I have spent much of my working life trying to protect children and dealing with the aftermath of them not being protected as they should have been.

the first time I heard about babies being raped was in the rape camps of Serbia. I would not be surprised if the constantly evolving boundaries pushed by increasingly violent porn is a factor in that development.

The police didn't find any (doesn't mean there never was any though) but you're right about his interest in extreme & sadistic stuff. Varley had bestiality images in a private folder going back to 2017 that the police were able to recover.

Why did they adopt a boy, who else was available to adopt Preston? Bet we won't be told.
Why do social workers, doctors keep their jobs. There has to be accountability.

There will be an enquiry to answer these questions. If professionals were negligent they must be held to account. But it’s equally possible that this was the result of 1 sadistic psychopath (varley), a follower and a bunch of clever manipulation of services, images, etc.

what is interesting is there’s not a peep from anyone who worked with Varley. I would bet the cruelty came out on lots of other ways.

And I don’t think most violent crime is because of loss of control. It’s because people give themselves permission to do the things they do.

Mumbles11 · 23/06/2026 11:35

I think some of the police are obviously in on this stuff. They do it aswell they are part of abuse rings

Remember when a woman said she tried to report Ian Watkins to the police for child abuse multiple times, and they wouldn't even listen to her

I think foster children should have a yearly medical check up and access to a therapist session each year to discuss their experience with their foster parents. And those too young to speak should be medically checked for their wellbeing every 6 months. I don’t understand why children who are wards of the state are not checked for health and happiness.

You can't believe in 2023 with all that we know can you, that he was never properly checked out after hospital admissions.

Instead bloody social praised them for taking him to hospital .

Also the foster mum didn't like them and had a gut feeling she was ignored. Her wishes should be respected she knew Preston well. Any doubts should be investigated.
It's embarrassing for the country, the incompetence every time this happens .

So WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP children.

We are ALL responsible for the state that the world is in. We all need to help

Why knowing they will be cowering in terror for the rest of their lives in a prison cell.

He vomited in the dock through shock as well when he was sentenced. Why would you put yourself through it.

I didn’t know that - makes me think it was the capacity to cause pain, suffering and fear was more of a driver.

Did the police seize their tech immediately or did they have time to destroy it?

This is clearly someone who has faced very few consequences in his life and thinks he can talk his way out of anything.

They seized their phones that they'd left in the house (it's how they found the videos and images Varley hadn't yet deleted) and I guess what was in the house at the time. Wouldn't nec be able to account for all old devices they may ever have had though. Who knows? The two years certainly gave them time to concoct their (crap) stories.

I have to say I agree with this sentiment. What she had done previously was horrendous and what the hell was she doing bringing a child into the mess that was her life.

Not just one but two, she also had a daughter. She was relying on her mother to bring them up. It's awful. Sine people should stop shagging around because in alot if cases that's all it is.
No stable relationship. In and out of prison. It was just sex . How many more was she going to have. Has it put her off now ?

DannyDeever · 23/06/2026 11:48

Agree. And if they had it wouldn't explain why they didn't just give the baby back. The adoption wasn't complete. In the early stages at least, they could have said, "this isn't working out" and returned him to safety.

Even if the torture/harm wasn't carefully planned there was planning and thought that went into continuing the abuse and I'd bet good money there was an element of planning for the abuse in the adoption itself.

How could you lie as well when the evidence was all on the phone.
Definitely a couple of weirdos. Not very bright either.

You can't argue with experts. Courts call upon experts to see how a baby died
You can't talk your way out of that and he didn't. Baby wasn't even wet and hadn't been in the bath. Stupid thick evil drama queen.

Mumbles11 · 23/06/2026 11:53

What annoys me though, is every time there is a child rape and murder, there are threads on here saying it's disgusting.

But no one gets off their arses to help. What are you personally doing to help stop child abuse in the UK!?

We could protest. We could call for an inquiry. Get signatures.

I also don't understand how anyone says it's "shocking" when there have been thousands of child murders in the UK. It's happened a lot.

Protest for what? A serious case review is already underway.

To be fair, this this case is unusual in the cause of death, brutality and the age of poor little Preston. What I have done is spent my working life supporting victims and trying to work out what to look for. But unfortunately, it’s just not possible to foresee all evil acts, and the more resources (intelligence, money, class and other privileges) someone has, the more likely they are to get away with transgressions.

What do you mean protest for what.

There's so many things that we could march and protest about, regarding child abuse in England.

We for example could organise a March. We could Carry posters asking why organisations are failing children. We could have Posters saying it's not good enough. Ian Watkins for one example was reported to the police multiple times for child abuse and they ignored the reports. In this case, Preston Davey was brought to hospital with injuries multiple times and it was ignored.

They did a protest against racism in my city recently.

I haven't seen any protests about the absolute epidemic of child abuse going on

It's not unusual. Do a Google search. Lots of children have died at the hands of their carers in the UK in recent years.

Even more children have been sexually abused by their parents/carers.
