A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

A shout out for count binface today, he at least deserves to get his deposit back for offering the most entertaining campaign.

Middlerage · 18/06/2026 10:39

I do have a much more positive view of Kemi than I did a year ago - her budget response was a game changer for me. She said everything I wanted to hear.

if I was in Makerfield voting for AB, the thing that might tip me to reform at the last minute is thinking I was letting Ed into the chancellorship. Swapping Reeves for Ed M would really be pointless.

i private sector wage growth 0.1 over current inflation at 2.9 percent, public sector at 5.1 percent and vacancies at a 5 year low. Bravo Reeves!

Starmer is making all the noises that he means what he says about seeing off any contender though…

Yes, hope he does well.
Definitely the best manifesto. 😁
Would love to see HS2 renamed as FFS1. 😂

He is. I wouldn't be surprised if he does try to cling on. He's a legend in his own head.

Someone was saying he only has a few very loyal people around him he’s listening to but they’re more thinking about saving their own jobs than anything else.

That would explain his delusion. Apparently his wife is also egging him on to fight it out. Echoes of Biden.

Middlerage · 18/06/2026 11:07

Tricky position for a wife to be in! But I’d definitely be saying ‘you’ve done enough darling, time for a holiday’!

I agree though, if self delusion were a super power…

EasternStandard · 18/06/2026 11:21

Plus what job could he do after

The others segued well even if the public went all for them.

But I can’t see what talents he’ll use

He's a legend in his own head.

That is spot on. 👏

But I think even Starmer will have to face reality when most of the cabinet walk away. That’s why I think there’ll be either no contest or an only-for-show foregone conclusion contest for Labour leader a few weeks after tomorrow. Burnham will get it without Starmer in his way.

Burnham will turn the ‘but Tories’ responses up to 11. He’ll think that not having been in government means he can start all over again with black holes and Truss. 🙄

AlternativeView · 18/06/2026 11:35

Well let's hope there is a surprise rejection and non of this happens !

Oh I do hope for that so much. The Labour turmoil would be utterly delicious.

Sadly, I just can’t see it.

On Carns, could just be me being a grumpy git 😂
He just spouts what Kemi is saying, and every time I hear him speak, he does the army-barmy routine of reminded us of how hard he is. DH is ex army, and he rarely tells anyone. Its Al Carns's whole identity.
Anyway, I'll grump off and drink more coffee. 😂

Wash your mouth out @Nuthatch26 - you can’t refer to “Army” when speaking about a RM 😜

That said, of course AC will keep telling us how hard he is - he’s a Bootneck, it’s what they do! Same applies to RAF pilots - as the joke goes:

”How do you know if an RAF officer is a pilot? Don’t worry, he’ll tell you!”

If people really destested labour and knew a vote for restore would split it surely they would just go reform ?

LupaMoonhowl · 18/06/2026 11:57

I originally thought that Rupe was being petulant in letting the vote be split and letting Labour, but actually he’s the only one holding Reform’s feet to the fire and preventing then going soft and just being complacent like the failed Torys.
Over a million downloads of his Rape Gang report - (harrowing reading) some of those will be people in Makerfield who will be angry that Nige reneged on his promise to get an enquiry and so was left to Rupert to make good that promise and throw alight on it to sell some justice for the myriad victims.

Middlerage · 18/06/2026 12:03

Oooh off to listen @CaveMum

LupaMoonhowl · 18/06/2026 12:17

Burnham losing today would be the most entertaining timeline. It would throw Labour into chaos.

Reform contacts say they feel it's 60/40 Burnham wins - they think they could do it, and they've got a big enthusiasm gap, but beating Burnham is a very big ask.

I don't know about Restore. They've got a very effective Facebook operation that seems to be cutting through with women (though it's a bit cheeky saying "Vote Restore because the Reform candidate said some sexist stuff on the Wigan Warriors forum 10 years ago" when your party's propaganda chief is Carl Benjamin of "I wouldn't even rape Jess Phillips" fame)

They've also got attention for hiding their candidate and not letting her do interviews; the Mail have done a few exposes on neo-nazis in their ranks; and you hear about just general oafishness from the activists they've sent to canvass in Makerfield. Once you look past Sleepy Rupert, it looks less like a party and more like a Nigerian email scam.
