A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

if Burnham can’t win with all the resource thrown at it…labour will split into a million factions.

think he will win, it’s not an area where you’d expect people to pretend they’re voting labour and then vote reform at the last minute.

idk that reform policy of no tax on overtime for people doing 40 hours a week on salaries under £75k is an appealing policy. We live in an age where people are voting mostly for policies, leaders and the party overall and not as much their local person.

AB’s appeal is in his difference - if he does get in and appoints the old guard/Ed it’ll be a short honeymoon!

justasking111 · 18/06/2026 12:44

As chancellor the millipede will go after pensions which are a sitting duck. It will bring in vast amounts of money.

Then he'll go after bank savings ISAs, there's another chunk of change.

Andy Pandy had Hugh Grant to visit in Makerfield yesterday. Desperate times. How they missed the opportunity to announce him in to a chorus of Girl's Aloud Jump, I'll never know. Rank amateurs.

I can't get past him with his trousers down in a car 😁😁

Upstartled · 18/06/2026 13:01

Oh man, forgot about the Divine Brown incident. Maybe they can regurgitate his, 'I did a bad thing' speech when it all goes tits up?

Yes, that Hugh Grant - exploiter of sex-workers

How odd, why Hugh Grant I wonder

I think the celeb thing used on the left just annoys people more these days.

Middlerage · 18/06/2026 13:09

I do too, fundamentally they need to deliver better policies.

It's very on trend with the 'sex work is work' left. Empowering the most vulnerable women into the most dangerous work in the land to satisfy the urges of men capable of treating women like objects for a bit of spare cash... it's progressive....like making women share their single sex spaces with men.

Agree, very cringe.

Burnham probably fancies himself as Hugh Grant's character in love actually.

I still love that film @Upstartled despite Grant's other incidents.

Right. I love it too. Especially the opening scene. And he was really quite good in Heretic. Thank god for cognitive dissonance otherwise a tonne of good movies would be sunk.

Ooh, I think it's definitely the scrappy underdog, sticking it to the man, pre- global crash positivity vibes as a new PM.

Didn't they usually roll out Eddie Izzard for the celebrity political endorsement? That might not be quite the right look right now.

I have to disagree about Love Actually. I’ve always thought it was too stupid for words, a crawly pile of Blair era crap, with added creepiness and terrible acting, and stuffed with New Labour luvvies.

Right, I know we are all fairly tolerant of a diversity of opinions here, but things are going too far.

I’ll stand my ground on this one. It’s dreadful.

I’d rather watch a Hallmark-style Christmas movie. And I usually do. It’s great fun looking out for the same sets that ten different Christmas films have been shot on - all with a female lead returning to her small US town, righting wrongs and falling in love with a long lost boyfriend with great hair. And they’re all shot in Canada in the summer with snow machines. Every scene has to have a scarf in it to remind you that it’s a properly cold and snowy Christmas.

Still ten times better than Love Actually.

I await ostracism.

There's room for all Christmas movies here, >even those that function only to extend the careers of Saved by the Bell cast offs<

justasking111 · 18/06/2026 13:39

Hallmark Christmas movies are mainly awful with the odd semi gem.

I admit I prefer the old classics

Upstartled · 18/06/2026 13:42

My bar for Christmas movies is as low as it is for disaster movies. I love them all. I'm a complete sucker for them.

I do miss the garage sale mysteries and when calls the heart . One was cancelled. The other is on a religious channel which doesn't cover the UK
