"Missing pilot rescued in Iran
US military officials have confirmed a missing crew member from a F-15 fighter jet has been found and rescued in Iran.
They were one of two people on board the aircraft, which Iran said it shot down in the southwest of the country on Friday.
No other details have been officially released about the rescued person.
The other crew member had been recovered alive after a search and rescue operation.
Iranian officials had offered a reward for people to find the missing American crew member, according to official state media."

I'm really glad he has been found safely, I wonder if he will now stand trial at some point for taking part in Trumps illegal war? I thought they had a duty to object to illegal orders.

The BBC reporting that “hundreds” of troops were used to rescue the missing crew member suggests a level of desperation not to allow this to go Pete Tong. My, admittedly low level, understanding of these missions is that you want to go in fast and hard - something that is more difficult when you have lots of people involved on the ground.

BBC also reporting that the US lost 2 transport aircraft in the raid - they were unable to take off so they blew them up on the ground and evacuated everyone on the remaining 3 aircraft.

Don't get me wrong, if that was my family member I’d want the 9th Armoured Brigade going in to get them out, but tactically speaking it doesn’t make sense to send so many people into harms way. God forbid there had been an ambush waiting.

That is a level of troop expense that is not sustainable.
