The King of Crazytown Can't Control The Chaos - Trump Thread #159

“Whether you’re a military analyst or a political analyst, whether you’re in the Democratic or Republican party, there’s a reality here. Donald Trump has met the moment of truth. The kind of fictional life that he’s led and evoked over the last four or five decades has now been unmasked as a deadly drama. It’s going to cost the lives of so many people. It’s going to devastate the US economy and the regional economy. It’s going to set back America and its standing in the world. It’s a horrific moment.”
Larry Jacobs, director of the Center for the Study of Politics and Governance at the University of Minnesota.

Y'know, I appreciate everyone who serves their country in the military, but 'warfighters' do sign up knowing they might need to fight wars. I'm glad no Americans lost their life in this little outing in this little unnecessary and illegal war. But the resources involved in saving one person while ignoring that we've just recently blown up hundreds of children seems really unpalatable to me.

Reading it again.... I think one is a woman. The first one rescued.

note the wording.

Or am I wrong ?

It it does turn out to be a woman they'll probably find a way to blame the whole fiasco on her being a 'DEI hire.'

It's not coming out of Trump's pocket so he won't care.

eta
but others might.

I wasn't clear. It's not the money.

You simply cannot pursue a 1:200 S&R ratio for every downed person.

Setting this precedent wasn't really a genius move.

True.

So they lost the original plane, another plane and 2 black hawk helicopters the other day and another 2 as aircraft in the rescue for 1 mission. How long can they sustain that level of loss before feeling the pinch?

Well Vietnam was what ... 65 to 75 ?

They have tons of kit. A hundred C-130, 2276 black hawks. Yup. Over 2000 of those helicopters. They won't run out. Their defence budget bigger than the combined budgets of the next 7 nations, or something like that. Has been decades. They have loads of stuff.

F-15 planes - 395 of them.
F35 planes - 500
F18 planes - 1000

But what they don't have are minesweeper ships to sweep the gulf for mines.

No. For me it's just the sheer amount. 50% increase. And the 10% cut to non military.

Full military state.

My take on this is that weapon manufacturers and distributors (aka Trumps friends) are about to make a fortune, whether a WWIII is a side collateral effect of that is irrelevant to them. And so is world famine, financial depression, bloodshed and destruction and so on...
Actually.... the less the poor have, the less of their brand new precious money they will need to pay to this working class people they need for some tasks.

The BBC reporting that “hundreds” of troops were used to rescue the missing crew member suggests a level of desperation not to allow this to go Pete Tong. My, admittedly low level, understanding of these missions is that you want to go in fast and hard - something that is more difficult when you have lots of people involved on the ground.

BBC also reporting that the US lost 2 transport aircraft in the raid - they were unable to take off so they blew them up on the ground and evacuated everyone on the remaining 3 aircraft.

Don't get me wrong, if that was my family member I’d want the 9th Armoured Brigade going in to get them out, but tactically speaking it doesn’t make sense to send so many people into harms way. God forbid there had been an ambush waiting.

If you look at previous examples of this sort of operation it's not unknown to throw the kitchen sink at the problem...in the case of Roger Locher in Vietnam way back there were supposedly 119 aircraft involved in just rescuing him.

And if you decide and announce you are not going to extract downed crew don't expect your aircrew to be overly keen on operating beyond the forward line of their own troops...

RedTagAlan · 05/04/2026 12:23

All hail the free press.

I have long thought the free press is the most important concept of the modern world. We can argue politics, different government systems, all that stuff till the cows come home. But it is the free press that is the most important.

"Video and images released by Iranian state media and geolocated by CNN appears to show the burnt out wreckage of several aircraft in southern Esfahan province after President Donald Trump said US forces rescued a crew member from a downed fighter jet." (NB- article is clear much is unverified)

As Governments put out information. misinformation. truth lies, rumours, (in war understandable), it is really only the free press that is able to search for the actual truth.

When I talk about the free press, I don't just mean the big stuff. Equally important is the local politician fiddling their expenses.

Next time I have a glass of something, I will be raising it to the free press.

Agree. That old saying. When you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail. is

Incidentally, Now Trump has his adulation from his base for "his" rescue, he will want another one.

I've been rewatching Secret Army, about the WW2 network in Belgium rescuing downed airmen, and this puts it in context.

I hadn't thought about the implications of not providing Life Line, so it's suddenly clear why the British paid so much to keep Life Line running. The volunteers were astonishingly heroic, but the money mattered too.

Happy Easter everyone. Todd Blanche has announced that none of the perpetrators will be prosecuted regarding the Epstein files. Blanche is lawyer to the 🍊.

logicisall · 05/04/2026 11:37

True.

Could the pilots had been looking for the famous uranium? Could they be carrying something important? So that is why so much effort to get them (and their "luggage")

And do not get me wrong, I think every soldier is worthy of this level of rescue mission. They do risk their life for their country.
And I also think they should not be there in the first place. US should have not started this war. And all these soldiers (I am not going to call them warfighters, whatever Hegseth says!) effort is wasted in a mess that will cost their country its international stance and power, rather than help their country. This will down on the military at some point, I think.

TheVeloursImgonnaChangeNsoul · 05/04/2026 13:11

See Trump is seeking 1.5 trn Dollars for defence.
That's a laugh it's to finance his nutty vendettas around the Globe.

I've been trying to watch this, but it's either payable, or starting mid series where it's showing on the t.v.

Could that 2nd rescued pilot be from another plane shot down that we didn't know about?

RedTagAlan · 05/04/2026 13:28

TRUTH ALERT (att)

And of course... it's not true.

The reason these rescues seldom happen, is because these crashes seldom happen.

I don't ever recall a story of downed pilots in enemy territory being abandoned. There are films about the rescues.
