Sky now. on AF1:

"Trump admits deal with Iran 'not guaranteed' - as he reveals talks focusing on 15 points
A little more now from Donald Trump, who has been speaking to reporters in Florida as he boarded Air Force One.
Having expressed optimism about the prospect of a settlement being reached with Iran, he warned that a deal was far from ready, adding: "No, we have a very serious chance of making a deal. That doesn't guarantee anything. I am not guaranteeing anything.
"I'm not going to come out here in a week or two weeks, and have you all say, 'Oh, you said' - I didn't say anything. All I'm saying is we are in the throes of a real possibility of making a deal."
The president suggested the US and Tehran were discussing 15 points of agreement to end the war, of which the Iranian regime giving up its nuclear weapons programme were points "number one, two and three".
The president said he wanted to see joint control over the Strait of Hormuz, with he and Iran's supreme leader both having a stake in it, despite having also claimed he wanted to see "a very serious form of a regime change"."

Iran has denied any dialogue with Washington, dismissing President Donald Trump’s claims as an attempt to lower energy prices and buy time for military plans,

Iran isn't stupid. They have been bombed twice now while in the middle of negotiations.
I'll be using the next five days to drop more mines in the SoH.

The CNN feed has an Israeli security source saying the same thing. But the source is adding that he is playing the markets while waiting for his Marines.

But Downing street say they were aware of talks. I expect tomorrow the press will have photos of Kushner and Witkoff playing golf all weekend.

Just reading about this awful NY plane crash.

"The US president was asked about the crash, and said "they made a mistake".

"It's a dangerous business, that's terrible," he added."

There is something missing in his head.

He's not wrong though.

Moving several tonnes of machine around - filled with highly flammable fuel - in any environment is risky.

From Aaron Rupar

as a seasoned Trump watcher it's clear to me that his tale about Iran reaching out to make "a deal" to end his war of aggression is mostly if not entirely fabricated and represents a desperate attempt to find an offramp before the economy and his political standing totally tank

He has managed to blunder into a room where the walls won't do his bidding.

If he can'tr launch a nuclear warhead forwards into Iran (and I am not convinced he can't or won't) then now would be a very good time to move away from behind him, as he is likely to annihilate someone he can land the blame on when he has worked out how to direct MAGAfire their way too.

Hegseth may be a suitable fall guy.

He isn't supposed to say that though. He is head of the Government. And flying is not a dangerous business. He was boasting a while back that he had made it safer under his watch.

That's a slightly different issue.

I mean if someone isn't able to figure out that things get very slightly riskier the closer you get to aeroplanes (even ones just parked up for years) then maybe they should leave thinking to other people. They are clearly not very good at it.

So it should be the case that stating a fact ... well it may be better expressed. But it's hardly a lie.

All of which being said, the secret to surviving around increased danger is increased safety - in the forms of regulation, enforcement, preparation, education, testing, evaluation, certification .... you get the idea.

I'm not so dim as to just trust my intuition unchecked But am I alone in imagining we have had more air incidents in the past year than previous year ?

Well a Hercules plane has just had an accident in in Colombia.

My point is that he should not be vaguely apportioning blame in such a manner. And I honestly don't know the incident statistics for the last few years.

Well. This snip from Sky and it is beginning to become clear:

"Trump's remark today before boarding Air Force One that he's not going to name the Iranian he's speaking to because he might get killed is an "astonishing admission" of perhaps a lack of confidence in his Israeli allies, and his lack of control over them as well, Waghorn adds."

Hmmm.

he's not going to name the Iranian he's speaking to

The Iranian.

Likely with tears in his eyes, and saying " Sir, please offer me us a deal"

DuncinToffee · 23/03/2026 16:59

It's so blatant that it almost takes your breath away! (Even knowing what Trump is like)
It's fascinating watching him contemplating, out loud, what it would be like to throw Hegseth under the bus for this entire fiasco.

And almost an admission from Trump that this is not going well. If it was going well, he wouldn't be giving anyone else any credit.

Kegsbreath will be wondering if he's going to be fired via a TruthSocial post like the puppy killer was.

Are the Iranian he's been speaking with and the former president he spoke with the same figment of his imagination person?

Who remembers the scene from "Schindlers List" where Amon Goth is looking out of the window deciding who to kill.

CaveMum · 23/03/2026 17:45

“The Iranian” he’s speaking to is probably just some random who’s got hold of his mobile number - the chaps on Pod Save America said it’s very easy to get hold of in journalistic circles - they tried to call him during a record!

My money is on the Aussie radio show hosts who like to call up royal institutions in this country.

Terrible - and don’t wish to be flippant about this - but thought any plane crashes were due to DEI hires, so I thought we were told a bit back?
