Those aircraft dispersed to Cyprus right at the start of the conflict, well advertised, well known.

Not quite sure why at this stage of proceedings they would come on for special attention by any of the combatants.

That is one of the many reasons why I can't watch when he comes on the TV. And the eye narrowing thing that I think he thinks makes him look thoughtful. I often have to turn the sound off too as I can't stand his whiney, faux wistful voice, minimal vocabulary and complete lack of coherence.
He just makes my skin crawl.

From memory, the A10 planes are retired from front line ground support. Old design and anti aircraft tech has overtaken it. I think some are kept in the US national guard. It just so happens that they are ok for shooting boats ( and maybe drones) .I suspect there happened to a US Air National Guard group over there on deployment ( on a jolly I think is the correct term).

For tank busting, their original role, they have been overtaken. The F35 I think, and missile tech.

Well without European air space and bases, it seems the US will need short range airplanes that are capable of long range flight.

There is obviously no intention for a negotiated peace.

There's been footage around of operating overland against insurgents in Iraq in the last few days, exactly the sort of thing they were designed for.
