What's the first thread you clearly remember reading here?

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 22/02/2026 19:58

And how did it play out?
I must've read thousands of threads over the years must get a hobby but the first thread I have vivid memories of reading was someone complaining because she'd been invited round to her new friends house for a drink one evening but only got offered orange squash.

As far as I remember the general consensus was that she WNBU!

I got sucked into reading all about the Mouldies aftermath.

grannycake · 23/02/2026 13:14

Dinosaur thread where the poster didn’t believe they existed

Enko · 23/02/2026 13:18

I dont recall my earliest. It might be the christmas collection thing. I have been here since may 2000. So quite some time

Sartre · 23/02/2026 13:21

I started out on the Christmas forum tbh. I was a new mum looking for inspiration, wanting my DC to have ‘perfect’ Christmases after the tragedies of my own growing up. Found out about the EOTS (this was a good 12 years ago) so that’s blighted our house ever since… Also found the poncetastic thread but could never live up to that though I did try making sloe gin and jam one year for Xmas presents.

As for AIBU, I distinctly remember one about taking shoes off indoors which was firmly split down the middle. I always remember the username Worraliberty, she was prevalent on the AIBU board but haven’t seen her crop up for some time.

nam3c4ang3 · 23/02/2026 13:27

i remember the penis beaker and the Japanese garden one and if im not wrong snapped and then farted - but one that will always stay with me was from the FormidibleMrsC - who was incredibly string after her stupid husband fucked her over.

Mydogisagentleman · 23/02/2026 13:32

On and off for about 22 years.
Riven and a Scottish woman who's daughter died

CMOTDibbler · 23/02/2026 13:38

I’ve been here nearly 20 years, and the earliest thread I remember was Peter’s heart transplant.

SlightlyJaded · 23/02/2026 14:17

If you look in Classics and go back to early 2000s - its quite interesting. Definitely smaller threads - 2/300 posts at most and a lot of posters appear across a fair few. Loads around 2004/5/6 that I remember really well.

I think it was still mainly that way when I joined 12ish years ago. It had a far calmer vibe, less pile ons and toxicity going from 0-60. I think it changed around the time of the Brexit vote when suddenly there seemed to be many more people here and many of them angry.

I remember that thread 🤣🤣

Iknowdino · 23/02/2026 15:36

Can't recall my first thread but a memorable one was the lady who I think forgot to put her swim suit in and walked out to the pool and her husband shouted that her fsnny was out! Cried laughing at that

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/02/2026 15:39

I can’t remember but I think it was one by the poster Marmalade or Bupcakes. I think they may have been the same person. The threads were hilarious and you saw the same names throughout threads.

Then it all went a bit precious and less fun. Don’t know why I’m still here.

NippyNinjaCrab · 23/02/2026 15:47

One of the first funny one was the lady who baked a particular beautiful cake and she was asked to bake one by her in laws iirc for an occasion. Unfortunately she was overwhelmed with various things and also the ingredients were expensive so said no. The in laws said they would provide the ingredients so she reluctantly agreed. I was in fits of laughter when she described the margarine provided, complete with that morning's toast crumbs 😂😂😂 i think at the end the FIL said it wasnt her best effort 😂😂.

The saddest and one I didn't hear about again was a woman who was fleeing domestic violence and the wonderful MN community assisted her with plans and other areas to get her to safety and laws (she was pregnant) she wanted to get home to her family in another country. I often think I hope she got home and is happy.

That was TheSecondComing (she got banned so you won't find it) but she was exhausted and walked poolside with just the top half on at which point her DH yelled "HER-NAME, Your Minge!!"

JaneJeffer · 23/02/2026 15:53

I remember one about a meet-up where someone copped off with someone else’s husband

HighStreetOtter · 23/02/2026 15:53

Various Gina Ford threads when Dd was little, so 2001/2002. That ended badly 😆

Ahh that was it!! It was so funny!!

ThereIsATInWater · 22/02/2026 21:54

"Cube of poo"

That was a good one. And Ellaroo’s river of Sweetcorn.

LoomBandLod · 23/02/2026 16:00

A pair of threads from two separate posters complaining about an altercation they’d had with each other in Mothercare earlier that day. The cake punching was quite funny, and of course ‘I pooed on my skirt at work today’.

JohnnyAndTheTaxDemand · 23/02/2026 16:12

Booble plate, I think. That was 2008 😯

pinkyredrose · 23/02/2026 16:15

The one where the woman's husband shouted 'your minge' at her when she accidentally flashed at the swimming pool 😂

Henry8thHoover · 23/02/2026 16:18

Super soaker, your minge and I am Canadian!
I used to spend hours reading classics, they were so good.
I remember way back when anyfucker was in the doghouse or something and loads of us changed our user names to include hers in solidarity.

Honourable mention to Expectation v Reality. Absolutely hilarious.

WildPanda · 23/02/2026 16:48

It was a thread by tidy dancer about a wedding - if I remember she thought she was being invited but then wasn’t but was asked to decorate the wedding venue. May have got that completely wrong. After I got hooked it was the Iamzombie threads (and then her sad death) and the biscuits and bandages thread which I read in real time - so sad.

ILiveForTheYadaYada · 23/02/2026 16:53

@LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway I am sure we can talk about this now. Gina Ford had a book on raising a child and she threatened to sue MN over the negative thread discussions about her book. We were banned from mentioning her name for a while. She became SWMNBN She Who Must Not Be Named instead.

I remember Riven's birth story and I think David Cameron and Sam visited her before he was prime minister to talk about disabled children and what services were not provided for them. Another thread about the tragic loss of a child to cancer who I think was 9 and the support MN women provided at the time.

All the London meetups when MN was small. The Christmas gifting threads that I took part in, river of sweetcorn and cutted up pear. I have been here since 2006 when I needed breastfeeding support and there was an incredible woman on here. The same with baby led weaning stuff.

I take most threads with a pinch of salt these days.

Didn't the bride get nicknamed something by everyone on the thread? I've got Gluezilla in my head because of something involving a glue gun but I could be wrong.
