What's the first thread you clearly remember reading here?

And how did it play out?
I must've read thousands of threads over the years must get a hobby but the first thread I have vivid memories of reading was someone complaining because she'd been invited round to her new friends house for a drink one evening but only got offered orange squash.

As far as I remember the general consensus was that she WNBU!

I heard about the “Mexican House Thief” thread and it was amazing and shocking how cheeky the house thieves were!

Foxybyname · 22/02/2026 22:36

I found MN because a googled a particular dress from the White Company I liked. (No idea now why I was googling it instead of going to their website!) One of the first links to come up was an MN link to a thread about them same dress.

Someone commented it was 'the perfect school run dress'. Well the complete disparity of replies drew me in and I'm still here many, many years later!

To this day I still can't decide if I truly believe MHT was real.

Can’t remember the poster’s name but she wasn’t sure if her hamster had fallen into the stew that was simmering on the stove. Very funny

I’ve just searched and found the hamster casserole thread and pissed myself laughing again (MorningPaper I miss you!)

BeckyBloom · 22/02/2026 22:40

I can’t find Pom bears which is unforgettable. Is it still on here somewhere?

I think it was on here - a post from a woman who's kid had peed on a double / king-sized duvet. She had put it in the bath, put the plug in and filled the bath with water to soak the duvet ovenight. In the morning she went back into the bathroom and was puzzled that the bath was empty. The duvet had soaked up all the water. The duvet now weighed about half a tonne, and she was posting frantically about how the hell she was going to move it. It must have been about 11 years ago, but I've never been able to find it again.

What did you type in the search? I'd love to read this!

The 'I have just spray painted a pigeon' thread in Classics.

The reply 'is that you Paul'? just really tickled me and I kept bursting into laughter all night every time I thought about it.

Not sure if it was the first, but very early on I read ‘Fat balls’. I remember laughing out loud and I was hooked. I miss the old days of mumsnet.

Fat balls for me too. My ex would absolutely have done the same. Idiot.

wantmorenow · 22/02/2026 23:02

Sex lube and a fish slice!

I was totally hooked and laughed out loud. Wish I had discovered this place when I was in a DV situation but still gets loads out of being here.

hollyandribbon · 22/02/2026 23:04

I don’t remember the first but penis beaker, one where a poster’s husband did t-Rex arms in the supermarket, screaming in the Sistine chapel, cancel the cheque and one where the neighbours were stealing the OP’s garden? I all watched unfold in real time. Also snapped and farted, although that was recent. I can’t believe penis beaker was 12 years ago!!

DoctorMarten · 22/02/2026 23:04

The one about Savernake Forest. Scary as heck!!

DoctorMarten · 22/02/2026 23:07

I was here in the AnyFucker days but can’t remember the threads

SweetBaklava · 22/02/2026 23:08

Mumsnet saved me during my miscarriage period (2012 to 2013) Many a funny hour spent on here.

Struggling to think of a good example though remember Eat Shit Derek saying they had started answering to Derek in the supermarket

I’m reading this thread thinking ‘there was a poster who was always really funny (but I think had stuff going on) but whose name I can’t remember’ - it was EatShitDerek! Thank you!

tapdancingmum · 22/02/2026 23:12

I was here when Anyfucker was around but the first thread I read was a lady who had a son who was violent towards her. From there I remember Mexican house theif and the one with windows in the garden plus many many more.
The ones that got me though were all the zombie ones and I ended up naming one of our rescue hamsters after her when she died. I still think about her 😥

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 22/02/2026 23:16

I wondered when Cancel the Cheque would pop up. Even now it irritates a bit that we never found out if the OP did cancel it, not what the CF B&G's reaction was. Not that I was over invested much.

OpheliaRose was the poster I think.

She discovered her husband was having an affair and he left her with twins who were very young at the time. I often think of her and hope she’s ok.

Derek was great. I remember them live updating their thread whilst being in labour. IIRC they got doxxed. I missed it happen but logged on the next day and it was like the aftermath of an earthquake.

The Mexican house is my stand out story. The audacity of some people is truly astounding.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 22/02/2026 21:38

Was it the one where the poster deliberately rubbed baby shampoo in their eyes to see it stung before they used it on their newborn?!

Oh God I completely forgot about that until you said 😅 didn't she say that it did stint aswell 😅

RightOnTheEdge · 22/02/2026 23:24

The very first thread I remember was a poster called Rindercella and her thread about her husband's illness. Her posts were so eloquent and so sad.

I also remember Chaos' multiple duplicate posts!
