Are you tired of the never-ending dismal weather?

I am. In West Yorkshire we've hardly seen any sunshine this year so far. It's been mainly low cloud, mist, fog, drizzle and persistent rain since early January. Last night, for a change, we had wet snow for about two hours so that was mildly exciting. I don't mind it being cold as such as it is winter, after all. But the greyness is so dispiriting. Where are the bright chilly days with blue sky and sunshine - with a hint of warmth?

Join me if you too are experiencing dull weather in your area.

It’s funny, I’m not usually one to be bothered about the weather, although I do find many days of high heat (35c etc) draining.

However, this rain/greyness is starting to get to me a bit!

explanationplease · 07/02/2026 18:01

I’m sick to death of it.

Sheknowsaboutme · 07/02/2026 18:07

No. Waterproofs on and i go out. Weather doesn’t stop me. Used to it

We go out but it’s just not the same - less wow how lovely and more head down keep going

FoxRedPuppy · 07/02/2026 19:14

@Cherrytree86 it’s to hot for me. I hate the constant putting on of sun cream, trying to find shade. I usually feel like I can’t breathe in hot weather, all the sweating makes me feel awful.

if I wear a hat, my thick hair makes me hot and sweaty. If I don’t, I get sunburnt on my parting. Not being able to sleep at night because too uncomfortable- I sleep with the window open all year round, I need it cold to be able to sleep. I like hiking and running, all much harder to do over middle of day in hot weather.

i totally get why people don’t like grey, rainy weather but never understand why the can’t even comprehend why some people might not like really hot weather.

kelsaecobbles · 07/02/2026 19:46

Oh I don’t like the heat either

there’s a narrow range of acceptable conditions!

CandidLurker · 08/02/2026 10:07

Times article today about how much rain we’ve had. Apparently it’s rained every day in Britain every day in 2026 so far and is set to continue although looking like next weekend may be dry. So if you fancy doing anything outdoors longer than a dog walk then next weekend might be the time

redboxer321 · 08/02/2026 10:10

I'm beginning to think this sun that people speak of is a myth. Something somebody made up to make us feel better. But it never comes. We are in a perpetual Narnia only with rain rather than snow.

zurigo · 08/02/2026 10:17

Yes, me! I live in the south of England, an area usually blessed with a reasonably warm, dry and sunny climate, but this winter has been the wettest and gloomiest I can remember. We have had the occasional sunny, or at least dry day, but everywhere is sodden, muddy and/or flooded atm 🙁

TheTecknician · 08/02/2026 10:20

We have some sunshine and a little blue sky this morning. Rain forecast this afternoon!

We went out for a lovely long walk along the river and canal today in the sun! It was so nice to see blue skies!

hellswelshy · 08/02/2026 16:53

Yes today was a break from the rain in South Wales 🙌 We had a walk by the coast and it felt glorious!

Playingvideogames · 09/02/2026 13:16

No suck luck here. It was threatening to rain all morning, and started up about an hour ago. Now we have wind and rain as usual. Day 31 here with no gaps longer than a few hours at most, and usually none. It’s relentless.

HelpMeGetThrough · 09/02/2026 13:37

We are on day 40 of rain. It’s shite.

I want endless sun and furnace like temperatures.

IWantToHibernate · 09/02/2026 13:40

Completely. This never ending dullness makes me feel so down and almost claustrophobic. We had one lovely sunny day last week for the first time in ages, and since then it’s been dull dull dull.

I don’t mind if it’s cold and sunny. But we just have dampness and darkness.

APurpleSquirrel · 09/02/2026 15:53

Day 40 here in Somerset- it’s just so unrelenting! The grass on the village green is turning yellow & being overtaken by moss!

ChopstickNovice · 11/02/2026 07:35

My garden is a swamp; I haven't hung washing outside since I don't remember when. Even my potted plants are drowning.

Keepoffmyartichokes · 11/02/2026 07:41

Still raining here in South Yorkshire. I'm going away to Norway next week where it's going to snow but at least it's not bloody rain

Fizbosshoes · 11/02/2026 08:29

I looked at the weather forecast and wished I hadnt. The long range weather forecast showed rain every day except one (were about 30 miles outside London)

The thing if you dont like hot weather, there is (generally) maybe 3-6 weeks of it - if that - in the UK, per year. 2024 "summer" barely broke 20° at all, as i remember. If you say you dont like weeks of dull, grey, wet weather, people say "but its better than being too hot!" Ignoring that there is a whole range of reasonable weather between tipping down with rain for weeks on end...and being 35° and sunny!

Dull grey windy wet weather can go on for months! A few years ago it was like it for honestly about the first 5 months of the year. That wasnt people exaggerating or imagining it, weather records, farmers, people's who's livelihood depend on certain conditions all confirmed it.

Disturbia81 · 11/02/2026 08:59

I’m sick of my dog trailing mud in and my kitchen looking like a farmhouse. Honestly never wished for spring so much!

Motheroftheb · 11/02/2026 09:35

Utterly fed up with it and there’s hardly any let up apart from this Saturday when we are promised some sun. I’ve demanded that we go out somewhere nice for the day to make the most of it.

FordExplorer · 11/02/2026 21:43

Yep North Yorkshire here (right on the border to West Yorkshire) and I need a boat to get to my greenhouse. I am SO fed up of wiping & washing paws 🐾

canyon2000 · 14/02/2026 14:17

What a glorious day it is today!! We have just taken the dog to Ilkley moor and there is a lot of snow up at the top which she loved! The sun was so bright! I feel rejuvenated😁

countrygirl99 · 14/02/2026 14:20

Just got back from a dog walk and got hot! It was unzip jacket in the sun and zip back upon the shade😄

countrygirl99 · 15/02/2026 12:40

After yesterday's lovely sunshine the water is pouring off the fields onto the roads and driving is horrible.
