Are you tired of the never-ending dismal weather?

I am. In West Yorkshire we've hardly seen any sunshine this year so far. It's been mainly low cloud, mist, fog, drizzle and persistent rain since early January. Last night, for a change, we had wet snow for about two hours so that was mildly exciting. I don't mind it being cold as such as it is winter, after all. But the greyness is so dispiriting. Where are the bright chilly days with blue sky and sunshine - with a hint of warmth?

Is anyone else getting slight pressure headaches during the day? I have this and I never get headaches, I'm putting it down to low pressure in the atmosphere. It's pelting down here, and one of the fence panels is now loose in the wind too.

I think I am going a bit crazy now.

YES. OMG for weeks now. I never thought to put it down to the weather!

North East UK here. I am getting seriously depressed with the absolute constant wind and rain. Went out for a matter of seconds just now to bring the bins in, and I am soaked. Everything is constantly wet. The front door handle, the garden gate latch, just, everything. My usually active dogs are refusing walks. It's just depressing and dismal. Definitely worse than recent years.

And no I'm not one of those who moans when it's sunny and warm! I love it! I obviously don't like sweating in a house when we have no AC in the UK, but who does?

I don't need it to be warm. Just a bit of brightness would be amazing. Our solar lights in the garden haven't worked all year as we're not getting enough daylight to charge them.

Spoke too soon, Yorkshire miserable again and looks like it will be for the next 10 days..

TheTecknician · 05/02/2026 16:03

I saw the BBC forecast earlier this afternoon. Apparently there is a very large anticyclone anchored over Eastern Europe which is effectively acting as a barrier to movement of Atlantic lows from southwest to northeast. So we're stuck with weather fronts and all their associated lousy yuck. There is change on the horizon though which should allow these fronts to begin passing through. That's my understanding anyway.

I’m in the south east on the coast. It’s bloody miserable. Rain, rain, rain. They’ve lifted the hosepipe ban so that’s a bonus 🙄

Funnily enough I was driving yesterday, another dark early evening evening and the thought popped into my head, I don't know when I last saw the sun. very sad and depressing.

Womaninhouse17 · 05/02/2026 16:47

When I look at the BBC weather forecast online, it looks like no change here (E Midlands) for the next two weeks. I could cry - so depressing. I've just been to the charity shop and bought 4 jigsaws which at least will take my mind off the gloom outside.

FoxRedPuppy · 05/02/2026 17:29

I appreciate West Yorkshire is a large area, but I’ve seen the stars, moon and planets loads of times in January.

Mud isn’t my favourite, but getting out every day and noticing the changes in nature does really help. As does a level of acceptance.

AgnesMcDoo · 05/02/2026 17:30

It’s pretty normal.

ultracynic · 05/02/2026 17:34

I think we’ve had one blue sky day since Christmas, I took a photo of daffodils on my kitchen window sill and it gave me such hope.

That hope is now dashed, looking at the forecast for the next fortnight. If we must have winter, I want sparkly snow and crisp sunshine. 0/10 for Mother Nature so far this year,

Notmytelescope · 05/02/2026 17:39

Devon here and apparently we are now up 250% up on the average rainfall for the year so far. It’s just constant, everywhere is flooded and the roads are falling to bits 😩

oscilla · 05/02/2026 18:05

My friends have gone to Malaga. It is on red alert there too, and the clips on FB would frighten the life out of you.

thereare4lights · 04/02/2026 11:23

I am so bored of wet dog walks. As is the dog. I look like a mad woman trying to drag a reluctant dog along the road.

Same , although dog doesn’t care , but I’m definitely getting bored of looking like a drowned rat 😒

HollyhockDays · 05/02/2026 18:38

Yes. Cold. Grey skies. Rain. Roll on spring and summer.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 05/02/2026 19:23

Went out for a 10 mile walk today, 4 miles in it started raining and got worse and worse, we both came home drenched despite waterproofs!

48 hours and I should be in Tenerife😎

You lucky bastard! Have a great time!

sparklyblueberry2 · 05/02/2026 19:59

No advice other than a sad lamp and treating yourself to fresh colourful flowers to distract from all the grey skies.
I was on mat leave summer 23-summer 24 and it rained nearly every day from the Sept onwards…..completely miserable year with my colicky baby!

Davros · 06/02/2026 18:30

Ok, it’s been proper pissing down in London today. I don’t mind too much as I’m a lazy cah 🐮 and can stay in as much as possible. I was out late last night and it was wet but I managed to avoid using an umbrella

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 06/02/2026 21:04

I'm in the pennines and I'm bloody sick of it. The fields have turned to lakes and it's wall to wall mud. I haven't hung washing out for almost a month and all this damp weather is playing havoc with the osteoarthritis in my hands 😡

TheTecknician · 06/02/2026 21:29

I gather the rain is forecast to stop by early Sunday morning. The sky should have run out by then. Sunday is expected to be dry in WY.

We've had a few sunny days in London but for the most part it's been miserable. I hate it, rain is the worst part.

ViciousCurrentBun · 07/02/2026 01:47

Bored shitless, have been unwell and can now just manage a short walk but it’s dire where I live and I can’t risk getting cold and wet. Walked round two local superstores to get some steps in the dry.

cobrakaieaglefang · 07/02/2026 09:51

DH is not very mobile, a potter into the garden about as far as he can go, we've been discussing only this morning that I think he is showing signs of vitamin D deficiency. Rarely able to go outside at the moment, rain, dismal dark skies.

Pamcakey · 07/02/2026 13:19

Also West Yorkshire. Very very fed up of fog.

I have horses but struggling to get out hacking as it’s too foggy and we’re bored sick of the arena. Walking the dogs isn’t much better as I have a puppy who isn’t 100% reliable yet and when visibility is less than 20m it makes it hard to keep an eye on her!

JerryTubs · 07/02/2026 13:22

It is thoroughly depressing to me.

PeonyPatch · 07/02/2026 13:57
