Are you tired of the never-ending dismal weather?

I am. In West Yorkshire we've hardly seen any sunshine this year so far. It's been mainly low cloud, mist, fog, drizzle and persistent rain since early January. Last night, for a change, we had wet snow for about two hours so that was mildly exciting. I don't mind it being cold as such as it is winter, after all. But the greyness is so dispiriting. Where are the bright chilly days with blue sky and sunshine - with a hint of warmth?

Join me if you too are experiencing dull weather in your area.

Devon here and I loathe it so much! Compounded by a bent gutter that leaks and has saturated the front wall (lime pointed last year) and now causing issues indoors. Trying to get someone to fix it but whole front wall is sodden. Ugh.

It is marginally lighter in the evenings though. And I have 3 daffs considering coming out...

kelsaecobbles · 04/02/2026 16:09

Yes it is dismal

perhaps we can club together and offer a reward for someone to go find the sun?

although - climate change leads to wetter climate and more dismal grey for us so it’s what we should expect

MajorProcrastination · 04/02/2026 16:20

Yep. I just want to dry my clothes outside!

Yes, also W Yorks and it’s definitely much worse this year than it was last year. When the sun came out for a few hours at the weekend I was nearly turning cartwheels!

I just hope that a tough winter means a glorious summer is on the way 🌞😎🍦

gototogo · 04/02/2026 17:25

‘‘Twas nice today here

Livpool · 04/02/2026 18:08

Yep - I am sick of it. It caused me to have an asthma attack yesterday as I was out longer than usual

FoxRedPuppy · 04/02/2026 18:11

I’m in West Yorkshire and there have definitely been some sunny days. Lots of rain though and muddy dog walks.

Lunalara · 04/02/2026 18:47

Yeah, January had so much rain. I am genuinely surprised my area hasn’t had a flood warning yet, as the river nearby is basically touching the ground. Today was lovely and sunny, but more rain to come. Hopefully this is a sign that spring will be decent weather wise, though (if my flight doesn’t get cancelled) I will be in Japan for some of it.

Mymanyellow · 04/02/2026 18:50

Sunny today quite mild , high of 10. (Sound like a weather report) everything is still sopping wet though. But I’ve got one solitary snowdrop in the garden.

epstain · 04/02/2026 18:52

Just look at this shit.

Remember when it was called Global Warming?

aterriblefish · 04/02/2026 18:56

I cycle to work 😭

Gamerlady · 04/02/2026 18:56

I hate it also , its so dark and dull, having to put the lamp on during the day. Not able to peg washing outside. Its so depressing. I dont mind the cold at all but need blue skies and glorious sunshine. All we've had is rain , rain , rain .

TheChosenTwo · 04/02/2026 18:58

It’s been glorious and sunny here for most of the day. I’ve loved seeing it - through my fucking office windows 😭
I mean I know it’s February and still winter so I’m not expecting wall to wall sunshine and daily heat but it stings a bit when every weekend this year I’ve been out walking in the pissing down rain. Yeah it’s a bit tedious 😫

Taytocrisps · 04/02/2026 18:59

I'm heartily sick of rain. I mean, I live in Ireland. I'm used to rain and grey skies. But it's just relentless. Really pinning my hopes on a Lottery win, so I can buy a holiday home somewhere hot and sunny.

ASometimeThing · 04/02/2026 19:01

It was lovely here today (Surrey). All the bulbs in the garden are poking through and birds are checking out the bird boxes. Spring is around the corner .

plominoagain · 04/02/2026 19:04

Oh me too .

East coast here . Took the horses out jumping this morning, and could just about see the whole course through the mist . Fog finally lifted after we’d had enough and called it a day . Drove back through bloody sunshine , and now literally saddled with muddy boots , bandages , jackets , everything . I’ve even ended up with mud on the bobble of my hat .

And is it me , or did it feel like January was 87 days long ?

Luckyingame · 04/02/2026 19:09

No, doesn't bother me. I hate Spring and Summer.

SheSpeaks · 04/02/2026 19:11

It’s been making my marathon training interesting. Especially navigating through the fields, hills and moors in the piss down rain with visibility of about 5 metres in front of me. The river fields are knee high water, then there is the fact that sunset times don’t seem to bear any relation to when we lose light, so I’ve been miles from civilisation when night falls seemingly randomly in the middle of the afternoon more than once. Despite checking my timings thoroughly. My running shoes are now more mud than shoe I think.

daysfilledwithdappledlight · 04/02/2026 19:27

With you! Happy for pretty much any level of coldness that comes with a blue sky. But the constant grey and damp is really draining.

countrygirl99 · 04/02/2026 14:11

Try adding a strangles outbreak into the mix for completing the gloom.

Oh no that's awful. It's a really grim time of year. I lost one of my beloved ponies last week. I'd had her 15 years.

illsendansostotheworld · 04/02/2026 19:38

Yep - l feel as flat as a pancake today. Saying that, the sun came out for a bit so was nice for the hour we saw it for

I’m so sorry . We lost my son’s pony this week last year . She was 43 . It’s just so utterly sad .

Doyouthinktheyknow · 04/02/2026 19:48

Definitely! Nice day today though, got out for a lovely walk in the sunshine. Even down south, the weather has been awful, so soggy.

I’ve survived January better than I normally do by walking on all my days off, even if it’s raining and the days that have been dry have been great! I do hate walking in the rain but I always feel better for getting out.

I’m off to the canaries on a cruise this weekend for 2 weeks and can’t wait for a bit of relative warmth.

oscilla · 04/02/2026 20:00

I am not usually bothered by the weather in Winter. But this year it's relentless and it's making me and lots of people quite down now. The leaden dark grey skies and rain every single day without a break is having an effect on me now. I am snapping at my nearest and dearest and I'm going to bed now. Feck that.
