Are you tired of the never-ending dismal weather?

I am. In West Yorkshire we've hardly seen any sunshine this year so far. It's been mainly low cloud, mist, fog, drizzle and persistent rain since early January. Last night, for a change, we had wet snow for about two hours so that was mildly exciting. I don't mind it being cold as such as it is winter, after all. But the greyness is so dispiriting. Where are the bright chilly days with blue sky and sunshine - with a hint of warmth?

Join me if you too are experiencing dull weather in your area.

Yes I’ve been trying to stay positive, but it’s beaten me. I love getting out and walking, 10000 steps a day minimum. Was 2500 yesterday.

I’m the same and usually love a daily walk but yesterday it was -7 due to the wind chill. Not enjoyable and took a much shorter route

Judellie · 04/02/2026 20:22

Definitely fed up of all the rain. I don't really mind the cold bright days - but there haven't been any this year, or that's how it feels. The sun came out for a couple of hours on Sunday, otherwise it's been constant rain here in the north east!

ChopstickNovice · 04/02/2026 20:54

Sympathy to all.
Sun came out for a bit at school run time, but now weather app is showing 95% likelihood of rain til Monday. Joy.

London is the same, and it’s not a wet part of the country. We have tennis lesson on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it’s been cancelled every week of the year so far (and it has to be torrential for them to don’t). I can only remember three dry afternoons - not even days! It’s unending.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/02/2026 22:01

My friend sent me this screenshot earlier - I am honestly so depressed by the relentless rain!

@Judystilldreamsofhorses So am I. BTW, isn't that a Belle and Sebastian song?

I'm in Dublin and we have yet another Yellow Warning for rainfall for another 24 hours starting at 3am. The sun was out for literally a few minutes today. It's just been so dark and dreary and gloomy for weeks on end now. It's like we're getting all the rain and cloud that the West of Ireland usually gets. I'd love a sunny frosty day so it would at least feel like the winters we used to get! Even though the days are getting longer you'd hardly notice as it's dark all day!

DoIdriveaVauxhallZafira · 04/02/2026 22:43

It helps when you actively notice the bright spots of blue sky, which we do get even in weeks like this. They may be fleeting, but they're there.

Even from early Jan you can notice the days getting shorter and early signs of spring. I'm down south and there were daffodils in the green before new year!

If the skies are clear at night, I step out for a minute and look at the stars.

Jan & Feb are much easier to cope with when you start paying attention to nature.

Combine it with vitamin D and embracing a bit of hygge - warm lighting, cosy socks, hot soup, sauna time & hot chocolate and things don't look so relentlessly bleak.

I’m so sorry . We lost my son’s pony this week last year . She was 43 . It’s just so utterly sad .

Wow 43! My girl was only 19, but she had melanomas that had spread internally.

User0311 · 04/02/2026 22:45

It’s awful! Really affects my mood I’m sick of feeling miserable

Kickinthenostalgia · 04/02/2026 22:47

Yes.. it’s been raining loads here since October in Sussex and yet my area is still in a hosepipe ban 🙄

BootsandCatss · 04/02/2026 23:03

South Yorkshire here! I am absolutely over it being cold, dark and miserable I hate it, I’ve never ever felt the cold up until this winter and now I can’t get warm at all. I’m wrapped up right now shivering, hands turning purple because I’m so cold!

Roll on the warmer weather and brighter days/nights!

I live in Mallorca and December and January have had a ton of rain. Everything feels damp and gloomy. At least there will be plenty of water by the time the tourist season starts though!!

My last holiday before stopping flying for climate reasons was to Mallorca and I remember speaking to locals (small village in the north) about their worries about the island's future, especially with regard to the availability of fresh water, in the face of climate change.

Here in the SW of England, we are completely rinsed out, rain for something ridiculous like 30 consecutive days, and forecasts for the next fortnight. Bleurgh.

We have had a total of 30 minutes of sunshine recorded over the last 19 days here - it’s honestly hard to embrace nature when it’s pissed rain solidly for four weeks straight. I drew the curtains at about 3pm today because it hadn’t really got light at all, and it was just too depressing seeing the rain batter the window. I live for cosy socks and chunky knits but this can do one!

Cherrytree86 · 04/02/2026 23:51

It’s proper shit

TheTecknician · 04/02/2026 23:53

It's so grey and soggy. My local weather shows the next 12 days and every single one is showing rain. 😭😭😭

My boy is 27 and retired last October. He's the only horse on the (thankfully small) yard that hasn't succumbed to the outbreak and is getting fed up of solo turnout.

It’s awful, I am demented with it. I went on Ryanair fare finder and have booked a trip to Spain to cheer me up!

I hope the weather picks up there for your holiday. We are flying out later today and the forecast is heavy wind and rain for when we land. Hopefully a bit warmer than here though.

Womaninhouse17 · 05/02/2026 04:56

I've been feeling quite depressed this week and I'm sure the weather is a factor. Several friends have been away to places with sunshine and seeing their photos just made matters worse. It's so grey and damp and miserable.

Sally2791 · 05/02/2026 05:13

It’s depressing. Grey, misty or rainy, mud mud mud. Roll on Spring!

muddyford · 05/02/2026 05:49

It's the constant low light levels that are getting to me. I want crisp, frosty, sunny days. Snow would make a lovely change from the incessant torrential rain.
