I don't like my mother but she helps with childcare

Buying microwaveable, ready-made mashed potato. Life’s too short to be doing all that peeling plus it’s not 1956. Take short cuts where you can

Buy frozen! Game changer and soo nice!

Going on a ridiculous amount of foreign holidays each year.

Same and I shamelessly post on SM each and every time
I also shut down the stupid ‘you’re so lucky’ from younger colleagues who are just starting out in life, in the trenches with the kids reminding them that once they’ve been grafting since 16 for 35 years and all the kids grow up if they plan well they too can go long haul several times a year but till then button it

KrickleKrack · 29/01/2026 16:49

I was criticised for flying three times in a year but my answer was that planes going to take off whether I’m on it or not .

I care about the planet in the abstract couldn’t give a shiny shit about my carbon footprint with regard to flying 10odd times a year - 2 long haul !

Lardychops · 31/01/2026 08:51

Having a cleaner
Flying up for 10x a year -2 long haul
Stealth quitting at work while on a high income
I can’t be arsed to recycle and have never rinsed a jar
I don’t tip -ever
I will sometimes only empty half the top of the dishwasher to put in one or two bits on the side and then run the whole thing again.
Buying ‘Cook’ meals and sometimes the sides which are extortionate
Doing child care and seeing grandkids daily in the week but rarely weekends as that’s my time
Not attending social events at the last minute as can’t be arsed

My company has an ‘unlimited annual leave’ model and I take 8 weeks of paid leave a year. If I answer a few emails on leave, I will charge half a day to the client every time that happens. So at the end of the year, I show up as having taken only 6-7 weeks of annual leave, which doesn’t stand out as much as 8 weeks would.

Zero guilt, especially as most people at my level do the same.

They are rolling that out at my DH’s company and we will be taking FULL advantage !!!

We use the tumble dryer for all our washing - can't stand to have clothes hanging off dryers / languishing on radiators and it's so much more convenient. And I think those heated dryers are such an eyesore.

We tumble everything -even in summer zero fucks given

Lardychops · 31/01/2026 09:08

DaughterOfPearl · 29/01/2026 19:27

I don't feel guilty about:
Washing clothes after one wear
Using lots of bleach in the loo
Working full time for my children's entire childhoods
Pretending I have a physical illness to take time off work when I am burnt out

I have at least a week off and a three dayer period of sick leave once a year without fail

I just ‘had Covid’ for 10 days as needed a break after Xmas
full pay obvs

Me too!!! If we don't go away my husband just works as he's self-employed and I just love being away!!!

Same. I hate seeing washing on a line. We have solar though so costs us nothing

warmleatherette · 31/01/2026 09:12

Spending so much of my salary on GLP1s (have lost 5 stone) and ADHD meds (calm brain, finally). Am single mother, no help / contribution from their dad. So one salary for the three of us. But then I think - I’m keeping this whole ship sailing so maybe they need the best / healthiest version of me running things. Maybe I can work harder and look after them for longer. It’s still a lot to spend on just me, though.

Amandaholdenstits · 31/01/2026 09:17

I've zero interest in having a heat pump / eco friendly housing. Our gas boiler has functioned perfectly well for years and is serviced annually. When the time comes to replace it, we intend to replace it with the same.

When I hear of friends / family spending £000s on heat pumps, solar panels, brand new radiators/ heating system with all the inconvenience & upheaval, I really wonder why they bother at all. I imagine their contributions will have nil impact on climate change.

Lardychops · 31/01/2026 09:25

Losing 5.5 stone on Mounjaro and taking all the credit for doing it the ‘hard way’

CountryGirlInTheCity · 31/01/2026 09:37

I phone my mum once a week and we talk for at least an hour. I say ‘we’ but it’s 97% her doing the talking. I love the woman but goodness me can she talk….about more or less nothing and often doesn’t ask about what we’re doing. Anyway, not a big issue, it’s an hour and I’m not falling out with her about it. However I spend most of the time doing other things - online food order, spot of cleaning, occasional bit of mumsnetting. She has no idea because my contribution to the whole thing seems to be saying ‘hmm’ or ‘oh dear’ on a semi-regular basis and I can do that, keep more or less up to date with what she’s saying and clear a few jobs of my own all at the same time. I don’t feel guilty at all!

Ours probs costs loads but I don’t care
see also hotub which runs at 40 degrees all year around and I love it !

Menopausio · 31/01/2026 09:40

My DH used to have to go away with work for 1 week every November. I would book 3 days A/L every time he was away, even after the DC were grown and out of the house. I used those days to do whatever the hell I wanted. FIL was always baffled by this.

I think you are lovely.
Edited to say I am not being sarky. My mum is the same and she appreciates me talking to her at all.

For staying as a SAHM and having a cleaner. My DH makes good money and I have hobbies and CBA to clean all the time 😂

There's absolutely no reason to feel guilt for this, anyway. Your money, your choice. I don't understand why people on this site are so weird about having a cleaner.

OMG same. I feel similarly about most environmental issues, TBH. I don't understand why we in the UK allow ourselves to be guilted by this nonsense when China and India do naff all about Net Zero etc. Just stupid virtue signalling.

I'm really hopeful that someone at work will get sacked or pushed out. She isn't very nice.

This! No guilt if it happens - sadly not that likely - as I've seen what she's done to others over the years.

It's not me who's weird. I've genuinely had people (family) tell me I should stop being lazy, that my DH will leave me if I don't start cleaning. I've been tutted at. That I should get a job (even though DH doesn't even want me to anyway) etc.

I don't get the big deal either.

twilightcafe · 31/01/2026 10:58

I buy a week's extra annual leave. This time is exclusively for me to do whatever I like: nothing for husband, kids or elderly parents.

You can't pour from an empty cup.
