I don't like my mother but she helps with childcare

She's nice to him

Fair I suppose as long as it doesn't cause an issue with your child.

I fuck off peanut butter jars into the bin.

I’m buggered if I’m going to spend ages cleaning those bloody things out.

Small spatula and then, like all my other recycling, the dishwasher. Easy peezy.
My thing I don’t feel guilty about is running the dishwasher 2 or 3 times a day. Everything goes in. I don’t hand wash.

AgnesX · 29/01/2026 16:43

Eating a six pack of crisps in one go. Typically cheese and onion with a litre of cold milk 😁

Buying frozen chopped onions, garlic, ginger, ready made mash etc. MIL is agasht - why would I do it when it’s so much cheaper to make it, cut it yourself?! Because I have two young kids and a full time job, and it makes my life easy, that’s why.

Oh God, I recently discovered the joys of frozen chopped onions, garlic and ginger. It has genuinely changed my life. No one tries to make me feel guilty about it though.
My sister does think it hilarious and scandalous that I have a cleaner. I have a physical condition that makes manual work painful. Plus I'd just rather spend the little free time I have on doing other things.

Spending money (my money, that I can afford) on a blow dry subscription. It’s utterly frivolous but I don’t care.

This sounds beyond dreamy? Is it with a local salon or a chain?

LaFidola · 29/01/2026 16:48

@Coffeeishot We don't live in an area with food recycling! It's very limited what our council expect us to do but I still don't even properly sort that.

Food caddies are coming but I can't see me being much better!

Going on a ridiculous amount of foreign holidays each year.

I was criticised for flying three times in a year but my answer was that planes going to take off whether I’m on it or not .

Wow! I'd love this! Where are you and how much does it cost?? x

GrandHighPoohbah · 29/01/2026 16:59

I don't give blood. I could do but needles and blood make me feel queasy. I nearly fainted having blood tests when I was pregnant. I contribute to society in other ways and have stopped feeling guilty about not donating blood.

LostGlassesAgain · 29/01/2026 16:59

Having a different contract at work to most of my colleagues, with better hours, holidays and pay. The company changed hands and a few of us kept our original contracts. New staff are on worse contracts.
No guilt at all.

TinaTwinkleToes · 29/01/2026 16:59

Guilt is a wasted emotion isn't it ?
I work from home one day a week and take the dog for a walk and go the gym

I’m retired and I have a cleaner. Started when I broke my ankle and it’s great, she’s incredibly efficient, a very nice person and has far higher standards than I do. I’d rather be walking and gardening.
In my defence I am, apparently, a recycling fascist so I’m not completely beyond redemption.

TinaTwinkleToes · 29/01/2026 17:02

Also I don't feel guilty for leaving my lazy ex. He has his child 1 in 6 weekends and 2 nights in the week. Hardly great dad material.

I should feel guilty for working full time as a mum of a toddler, and I don't feel a moments guilt.

People always used to guilt trip me for working when DDs were small, even when I only worked 3/4 days. As if it were even an option. I was the main earner even when part time, not in a little job I just fancied doing for for pin money to get me out of the house. I'd just say "Well, I don't know about you but I think it's quite nice to be able to pay the mortgage and bills!"

Hatty65 · 29/01/2026 17:10

Saying No without a reason to things I don't want to do. I feel like I should feel bad and unhelpful and rude (as I did for most of my 'people pleasing' life). But I don't.

I feel no guilt whatsoever now for declining to help you move house, decorate, join you for Aquasize classes or come round for a BBQ if I don't feel like it. I've been known to simply say 'No thanks' or occasionally, 'I don't want to'.

TinaTwinkleToes · 29/01/2026 17:10

I need to work for money and my mental health so 🤷‍♀️

I’m sort of similar, where colleagues in my team came in through a company buyout. I earn £20k a year more than them for doing the same job and get a car too.

Don’t feel at all guilty, but they would go mental if they found out.

ForLoveNotMoney · 29/01/2026 16:09

I work part time as a midwife and not full time because I get a UC top up as a single parent and I’d quickly burn out and I want to spend more time with my child.

I did work a high paying job full time for 15 years prior to this. I will return full time once son is older but for now I need this.

I don't think you should feel remotely guilty for this. I'd feel proud of having got the work-life balance so right.

BoudiccaRuled · 29/01/2026 17:13

According to MN I should have "mother's guilt".
I don't at all.

What about?

For saying I have period pain and getting sympathy from partner and a cuppa when really I'm just stuffed from the pizza I ate at my parents earlier in the day.

BoudiccaRuled · 29/01/2026 17:23

TinaTwinkleToes · 29/01/2026 17:17

What about?

On MN people have mother's guilt for, seemingly, everything. Working, not working, going out, having friends, not being wealthy, not spoiling their children, spoiling their children. It's all very strange.

Danikm151 · 29/01/2026 17:24

Occasionally I will book a day off work to have a chill out day. My son still goes to after school care on those days.

I’m burnt out from working full time and being a single parent. 1 day to do feck all makes a difference
