Things you 'should' feel guilty for but don't

I don't like my mother but she helps with childcare

If you feel you should feel guilty about it then you do because otherwise why would you even associate it with guilt?

It's not me who's weird. I've genuinely had people (family) tell me I should stop being lazy, that my DH will leave me if I don't start cleaning. I've been tutted at. That I should get a job (even though DH doesn't even want me to anyway) etc.

I don't get the big deal either.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply it was you being weird. It's just as you say, people telling you that you should 'stop being lazy'. Pure misogyny.

Really this is bad. There are so many reasons why lovely gardens don’t want people to do this. I certainly would report anyone doing it.

Well, Nan wouldn't of cared and she'd call you a snitch. You would have been crossed off the Christmas card list, and she would've turned her nose up at your cake offerings at the WI meetings. So there.

She went to her grave unrepentant and with the nicest garden in the village. As this is the only vaguely dishonest thing she did in her entire life, I'm sure God will have forgiven her, and she is tending her herbaceous boarder in heaven. Probably still nicking bits from other celestial gardens though.

And my school aged child not doing any after school/weekend clubs. He does literally none. He’s autistic and only just managing full days at school. No way is he able to manage anything else.

Oh. And screentime. We use it. It regulates him. He doesnt play like ‘normal’ kids. Sick of feeling guilty because my kid sometimes has a screen.

Edited

100% with you on this, sounds like we have very similar children!

Fodencat · 31/01/2026 12:00

I don’t feel a bit guilty about hoping a snake I know gets their comeuppance

mondaytosunday · 31/01/2026 12:45

Gosh most of these it wouldn’t occur to me that guilt might be attached to them! The recycling things though - I couldn’t not do it!
@ConstanzeMozart certainly no guilt attached to having a cleaner - you are giving someone employment! I work only very part time and I’d have one if I could afford it!
I’m a landlord and my family live off the income. I don’t feel at all guilty about this, the properties are lovely and I’m an excellent landlord, but MN acts as if I’m the devil incarnate and how dare I deprive those desperate to get on the housing ladder/take such advantage of people? Because yes I’m sure there are plenty out there who can afford a £750k flat … and it’s amazing how some people are happier renting, for whatever reason.

Same. I hate seeing washing on a line. We have solar though so costs us nothing

Why the washing snobbery?

I had a noisy neighbour who made my life really difficult for years. I'd complained many times and it just got worse. I didn't want to spend time in my apartment because of it.

I bought a giant pair of trainers in a charity shop and put them outside my door. Never heard a peep out of the fucker again. I concluded that when he thought he was just dealing with a silly woman, he didn't care. However, he did care about potentially dealing with the man who might fit into those trainers.

He's moved now, thank fuck.

What A brilliant idea - albeit sad really

Glad it’s not just me! Can be really hard when you hear all the ‘typical‘ mums going on about their swimming, football, martial arts, dance, drama and art clubs. Kind of nice to just chill about the weekend when we’re not dealing with meltdowns

I buy a week's extra annual leave. This time is exclusively for me to do whatever I like: nothing for husband, kids or elderly parents.

You can't pour from an empty cup.

This should be the norm.

Shame I needed to make low key threats of violence to get someone to behave like a decent human being.

I got the idea on Reddit when I was trying to find solutions. I laughed at it at first, then a few weeks later I thought why not. Best £5.50 I ever spent 😂

Same and I shamelessly post on SM each and every time
I also shut down the stupid ‘you’re so lucky’ from younger colleagues who are just starting out in life, in the trenches with the kids reminding them that once they’ve been grafting since 16 for 35 years and all the kids grow up if they plan well they too can go long haul several times a year but till then button it

Why do you need to do that?
I don't get that , the need to post.

Take it as sick for free if you need it for your wellbeing x

I used to feel guilty for getting married when I didn't want to. I now realise I was in a weird controlling situation

Well please please research them first. Look at their values and belief system; their intelligence levels and ability to navigate complex international relations and think strategically in a complex world. PLs also think about their bond with Trump and his lack of respect for allies, and our soldiers.
Think realistically what you, your family and community and country will gain from them before you use your valuable vote x

Also @pavillion1 just wanted to follow in from my message below.
Here is some further information on Nigel Farage and he could be our prime minister.

Here is the information on Nigel Farage's registered interests:
Nigel Farage is currently the highest-earning MP from outside work, reporting over £1.2 million in addition to his parliamentary salary.
Key sources include:
GB News: Approx. £33,000–£51,000 per month.
Direct Bullion: £280,000 annually as a brand ambassador.
Cameo: Over £170,000 earned in 2025.
Social Media & Speaking: Significant variable income from X, Meta, and international speeches.
In January 2026, he was found to have breached the Code of Conduct 17 times for failing to register roughly £384,000 within the 28-day window, though the Commissioner accepted this was inadvertent."

Why do you feel the need for validation though and do you think people are really interested?

Validation lol - are you 24 ?
i feel ‘validated’ by having grafted since i was a kid, raised my kids, and now enjoying the fruits of my labour lol
What a strange thing to say -validation lol -I’m 50 years old you daft apeth!!

TinaTwinkleToes · 01/02/2026 21:58

Also I don't feel guilty for not entertaining people who are actual dicks to me. Family or not

She's not the mother I would have chosen put it that way. My child is happy and safe with her so that's what matters
