I'll go first. I'm hoping to get some nice ideas 🙂that I wouldn't think of myself as my brain is tired of working out what were all going to eat every day 🙄

Today we had (per person):

1 large protein wrap with sliced, seasoned fillet steak, cooked rare (150g), 200g sliced and fried mushrooms and 80g fried onions and 40g grated red Leicester and cheddar cheese with garlic mayo.

It was delicious and very filling 😋

Also what's the oddest thing you've made with leftovers?

Last week, to save it from going to waste, I ended up eating diced cooked carrots and boiled potatoes mixed together with some salad cream and diced, pickled gherkins. Sounds weird but tasted okay 😂

I am still in french multi-course mode. Plus i don't work Mondays. So tonight will be;

Starter - pate with lettuce leaves and grated carrot salad and cornichons

Main- Cream of tomato soup (I have just finished making) with baguette and butter. DS1 has an obsession with cream of tomato soup, but the Heinz variety, so we will see how he copes with the real thing.

Pudding- crackers, cheddar cheese, camembert, apple slices and strawberries.

Plus mini magnums if anyone is hungry after that (DS2, looking at you).

I’m having something called MarryMe chicken with green beans and roast spuds and carrots.

it’s a new recipe so let’s see how it goes

EconomyClassRockstar · 23/02/2026 20:39

Spaghetti and meatballs. With half the spaghetti being zoodles instead of pasta.

What did you think of the marry me chicken @patooties ?

I make it sometimes (not for ages). I do a chicken-less version as a sauce over pasta for vegetarian DH.

Last night's homemade cream of tomato soup was a hit with DS1.

Tonight:

Starter- Cream of tomato soup with baguette
Main- Steak Diane (I will halve a steak with DS1 who does not have a huge appetite and DS2 will have one to himself) with broccoli, and a baked potato. I have to use up the cream I used in the soup so a creamy Diane sauce ought to work.
Pudding- watermelon and cheese and crackers

I'm really enjoying the multi-course thing. I tend to only eat once or maybe twice a day so I am enjoying more courses but smaller portions. I am also going to make a chicken and leek soup today which we will have tomorrow as a starter. Now that I have bought the crackers and cheese and fruit it only takes seconds to bring out of their tupperware boxes but the Dcs seem to think it's all very luxurious.

Hash brown bites with beans and cheese tonight Grin

Papyrophile · 24/02/2026 19:37

Snap! I had Mushroom risotto too, used up some wild mushrooms. I love fennel and orange salad, I’ll have to add fennel to the shopping list.

ChubbyPuffling · 24/02/2026 20:59

Vegan chilli made with Beyond "beef" bits, a tin of mixed chilli beans some spices and chopped spring onions... with rice, and tortilla chips on the side. Was lovely.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 24/02/2026 20:59

Cod Fishcake, cheese sauce, boiled potato, broccoli, carrots and sweet potato.

EconomyClassRockstar · 24/02/2026 21:09

Tonight I'm attempting to recreate an appetizer we had recently on holiday. Chicken meatballs with a mustard and bbq sauce and salad. I've quite got into trying to make favourite restaurant meals lately...with varying amounts of success!

Tonight I made the black bean dish that someone on here recommended. Thank you, it was delicious and will be a repeat. Highly recommend.

Which one was that as I can't seem to find it? Thanks

I had to go to the laundrette today as our various machines are not working. As I waited I was reading a book about french food, french eating habits etc. I am afraid to say it inspired me so today we are having;

Starter- duck and orange pate with lettuce and baguette
Main- Cod dusted with flour and paprika and pan fried in butter with broccoli and honey glazed carrots
Pudding- camembert, strawberries and grapes..

DS1 has sensory issues around food and probably won't eat alot of that (it will be my first time trying him on pate) so his carrots will be grated and raw (the only way he eats them) and he will also have a cucumber salad he loves which is peeled, very thinly sliced cucumber, a sprinkle of white wine vinegar, sugar and salt and left to marinate. I think he''ll eat the fish, broccoli. baguette, cheese and fruit, so finger crossed!

(Sorry0 there was alot of extra info in that post!) Grin

That sounds delicious, especially the main course.

I made a leek quiche yesterday. Bought loads of cheap leeks, then made basic shortcrust and freestyled the filling with 5 eggs, some double cream, tarragon etc. That was lovely!

Sausages and fried egg with a Staffordshire Oat Cake and some savoy cabbage in the side.
Then cherries and Greek Yog

And a vodka and tonic. Polish Bisongrass vodka.

Because I thought it was Friday

Ah, thanks for this! I have some bisongrass vodka and it's Friday! Well, actually it's Saturday now but it'll do. Cheers!

HUNGRY4MORE · 28/02/2026 01:04

2 Fried duck eggs with homemade potato rosti. No proper veg in sight 😱

It was delicious, though 😋

Tomorrow we're eating lunch out for a birthday celebration (Asian), so the evening meal will probably just be a tin of soup, or some cheese and crackers.

Thanks for all the lovely ideas, and please keep them coming.

I bought a pack of exotic mushroom mix really cheap last week and used it to make a mushroom risotto, which was really tasty. I used a recipe that was recommended on another food thread, and although the amount of butter was scary (125g), it tasted bloody lovely 😍

ProfessorLeveretGrey · 28/02/2026 06:48

Oh I saw that thread with the buttery risotto- that's the Angela Hatnett recipe I think?

i had planned sausage casserole and rice for tonight but we are also going out for lunch so think soup and baguette for DCs will fit the bill

Comtesse · 28/02/2026 08:25

Mussels cooked with wine and cream. With plain white rice to soak up the juice. Kids had fish fingers instead, mind you Grin
