A quiet and friendly corner of MN to share the very dull day to day happenings of our lives. No criticisms, political discussions or controversies here - unless it is along the lines of "scone" v "scahn" and jam or cream first. Then it's gloves off! 😁

How did this start? I have found v.2, but not the original:

Well, the local football team (NFL) lost. At least we don't have to watch them being annihilated by Seattle next week.

Thanks for the new thread havoc :-)

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 19/01/2026 03:43

I would love if mumsnet had a feature where we could look how many people were online at any given time.

I clearly lead a very Boring life 🤣

Hello 👋 I think I’m going to continue my little illustration course tonight, and I need to work on a photo book of or my grandmother at some point.

my brother put up some shelves this evening which I am very pleased about. Planning to move the boys Lego up there; I have lots of family who come with little kids, and the models are on a bookshelf right in reach; yikes!

mathanxiety · 19/01/2026 20:05

I'd like that too, ImDone.

The boring minutiae of life, and various musings, is exactly what this thread is about.

A wait of an hour and 15 minutes to see the orthopaedic surgeon. The consultant was in emergency surgery, fixing someone's broken ankle. The audacity of breaking a bone or 25 when I needed to see him!

I saw his registrar. I have a big toe joint that I can't move voluntarily (with my mind) but when I hold it and waggle it with my finger, it's fine and not painful. Plus I have a painful callous on the ball of my big toe. I was sent for another x-ray which was a 55 minute wait. They are referring me to be fitted for orthotics because my foot has turned inwards. They don't know why my big toe is misbehaving but they think it's the FHL tendon.

I then went to the infectious diseases doctor who will probably discharge me but wanted blood tests to confirm that my inflammation and infection markers are back in the normal range. Before I went he let me know that one of the antibiotics that I have now finished (after 12 weeks) has been known to affect tendons.

So I think the antibiotic has weakened my FHL tendon, leading to my big toe being unable to support my body weight, leading to the foot turning inwards and the very painful callous. If I'm right, I will need different physiotherapy exercises and the good news is that it will get better eventually.

The wait for blood tests was another hour so I left home at 9am and returned just before 4.30pm.

I then had to call the service plan people for the old car because it wasn't cancelled when we sold it. More stress while that gets sorted out.

GP will call tomorrow about my throat and post nasal drip, hopefully referring me to ENT. The physiotherapist will call to follow up after today's appointments. A recruiter will call about a new role that has come up, and the garden landscaper who gave us a quote last year to build a patio will call round to redo the quote. We are going to hire him because the decking is now rotten through and quite treacherous.

On Wednesday I will do nothing.

LapisBlue · 19/01/2026 20:52

I disposed of my rubbish, did all my recycling and now I feel...calm and clean.

Umanresources · 19/01/2026 22:53

@Mumtobabyhavoc thank you for the new thread. I thought I’d better come over to this one before the other one gets filled.

@MyrtleLion you are certainly filling up your days with the medical appointments. I should think you would need to spend Wednesday in bed to recover, I know I would.

@EllaDisenchanted so sorry you had to postpone the birthday trip. I can’t imagine how stressful it must be to live with a threat of hostilities. I hope things settle down soon for you. Enjoy your drawing course. I got myself one of the tiny painting sets, and I’ve enjoyed using it for a short time each day.

@sproutsandparsnips I really fancy pork now. I did get some gorgeous ones from the online butcher, but OH froze them. I’ll have to get him to defrost them for tomorrow.

@mathanxiety i didn’t get him to turn on the Sat Nav. It was his choice, but mainly to see how long the track we were on was. It seemed so long!

Aw @hildatablet I like your mini tale and the fact you still married your chap 😂

Today I got in touch with my doctor’s surgery and sent them photos of my legs and asked for advice. I got a phone call from them, within half an hour and a prescription to be picked up for antibiotics. That was some speedy diagnosis and solution. I think it’s because I have diabetes and they don’t take chances with any sort of injuries or wounds. They weren’t caused by the rattling car journey, honestly.

Chilli and baked potato for dinner tonight, followed by cherry yoghurt.

sueelleker · 19/01/2026 23:46

Phoned the blood donor service today. I regularly gave blood from my left arm, until the vein tissued; then switched to my right. However, I have a wandering vein in that at arm, and after three failed donations they won't try it again. The nurse said they might be able to use the original arm, but further down the vein. I'm now waiting to hear if this is possible. Otherwise, after 112 donations I may have to give up.

MyrtleLion · 19/01/2026 23:49

Thank you @Umanresources. I've spent so much time in bed or reclining on the sofa in the last few months that staying in bed feels indulgent.

I've recently come across a concept of whether something is a Thing. And Things take up emotional effort. Today was a lot of Things and tomorrow will be a lot of Things too. So I might treat myself to a Day Out and go somewhere nice instead on Wednesday.

MrsSPenguins · 20/01/2026 00:17

DH and I had some Greek yoghurt and had 1/8 of a large pineapple each with it and gave 1/4 of the pineapple to DS. We later came back to find DS had eaten 3/4s of the pineapple. Loves his fruit.

Had chicken Kiev and broccoli for dinner. Tomorrow DH has the afternoon off and we will work in the garden until dusk which is about 5pm.

ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 · 20/01/2026 05:24

British Gas suppose to be coming tomorrow....
But... They always cancel, using the excuse of 'an emergency' come in...
Its not, its only because i am semi rural and they cant be bothered to drive here

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2026 07:54

Welcome @ImDoneOnceAndForAll2 and @LapisBlue. Thank you for sharing your boring, yet calming, news. 😊
We'll look forward to updates and other unexciting happenings. 😁

A piece of my mail was delivered to a neighbour in error and neighbour returned it to me. I'm a bit annoyed as it was something I'd prefer they didn't see. It isn't anything scandalous, what ever that could be, just something I wouldn't tell them because I'm a bit private. The interesting part is it was returned anonymously, so I don't know which neighbour has inside info about me. 😂

i bought a dozen bagels at my favourite place today and ate three on the drive home. Traffic was bad. I didn't have a choice, really. Two were rosemary and rock salt and one was plain.

Both dc have dental appts tomorrow. I've promised treats if they get teeth polished and fluoride. We practised opening our mouths for the dentist this evening. They are so cute. 😍🥰🩷

It turned out to be foggy again by afternoon.
It's currently 3c.

Sue, I have highly mobile veins too. It drives the nurses crazy when I need a blood draw. I probably had 20 blood samples taken over my five days recovering in the ICU.

Winter has well and truly arrived. We had 5 inches of snow on Saturday, then it snowed lightly all of yesterday, adding another 2-3 inches. When I got up this morning, the temp was -12C.

Math, is it this cold and snowy in Chicago?

The visiting nurse is coming around this afternoon. I may try to get out to the supermarket with DH this morning.

Another busy day.

Referred to ENT on the cancer pathway. I don't have cancer but I'll get an appointment quicker, plus a chest x-ray. Also enquired about an autism/ADHD diagnosis and she told me how to do that.

Garden decking was built on a patio which will have to come up as well but hopefully we'll have a new garden space by the end of February.

Recruiter loved my new CV format and has hopes for a new role upcoming in February.

Then I had to email the company we bought the sofa from because the reclining mechanism has sheared through and that side of the sofa is unusable. They are claiming we're out of warranty but it should have lasted another three years. I'm going in strong with the legal basis and hopefully they will sort it out.

I had thought it was a gentler day because I've been at home, but it's actually been tiring.

Poddingtonpeace · 20/01/2026 19:32

I just had some marsmallow fluff on hot crumpets. An interesting experience. I suspect I will not do it again.

MorphingintoMargo · 20/01/2026 19:41

In the process of decluttering, I have discovered that I have 18 pairs of wide-leg, linen trousers. 12 pairs will be going to the charity shop tomorrow.

Bonkers1966 · 20/01/2026 19:47

Car sailed through its MOT. What a relief. Waited in a bus stop like shelter with all the men getting their wives and daughter's cars sorted. I did receive a few questioningly glances. Here in Northern Ireland it's mainly men who deal with such matters. 😂

CrikeyMajikey · 20/01/2026 19:48

I’ve made a chill con carne but forgot to add the kidney beans. I rarely make chilli as it just comes out like spag bol. Tonight’s chilli is a bit disappointing, again.

MrsSPenguins · 20/01/2026 19:56

That's good you will get a quicker appointment @MyrtleLion

DH had the afternoon off work and he and I did the garden together, 3 hours in the garden then 45 mins afterwards cleaning the floors in the house. DH laid 11 more big stepping stones so garden path 1 is nearly complete, he just need to collect the final 3 stepping stones and put them down. He took up the old too far apart stepping stones and we will re use the 9 he took up (we have 20 now instead) to make a path 2 to the garden shed from the chickens / path 1. Then we will make a third path and have ordered stepping stones for there. I cleared most of the leaves in the garden and cleaned the outside of the chicken's cottage and run and their 2 little shelters and the outside of the painted garden shed and all the plant pots. The silkies came round with us and were very intrigued by DH digging holes for the stepping stones and got a few worms. One of them tested the path.

Had some greek yoghurt and mango earlier and now about to have gammon (DS will have pineapple on his) cauliflower, broccoli and 3 cheese gratin with it for us, DS will have chips. Am just having a cup of tea and watching Below Deck Med.

sproutsandparsnips · 20/01/2026 22:42

@CrikeyMajikeyI never use kidney beans in chilli. I think they are overrated!
@MrsSPenguinscauliflower and broccoli cheese sounds delicious….
Love the snowy pics @MissConductUS
The good thing about tiring days @MyrtleLionis that you can relax afterwards with a feeling of a job well done.
DH and DS2 had chicken wings and homemade blue cheese sauce for tea. I declined and had bruschetta after work and swimming class.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/01/2026 22:49

Quick post to say: chick peas and black beans in chilli. It's the only way. 😁

Out and about downtown after the kids' excellent dental check-up!!! 😁😁

It's still sunny and now 8c. 😎☀️

Our high temperature on Friday is forecast to be -4°F, which is -20°C. The low temp will be -11°F, which is -23°C. It will feel even colder because of wind. I am hoping a cold weather emergency will be declared, because I really don't want to have to leave my cosy apartment and head out to work in that kind of weather.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2026 02:47

Oh, jeezus Math. 🧊
Miss, how was your day? Did you venture out?
Penguins, you are doing a lot of garden work. 👏

Managed to get laundry on, but forgot to hang it up before rushing out. So, just got home and am putting it through another wash. 🤦‍♀️
After the dentist I took the kids for french fries then to the Aquarium for the rest of the afternoon.

The fog is back. 😶‍🌫️
