Welcome to all of the newbies and delurkers. We always get some when a new thread starts. I hope you keep reading about our dull news even if you don't post your own.
It was a bit warmer yesterday, so DH and I went for another walk by the Hudson River. There was a lot more ice on it than the last time we went, and we saw lots of birds. I have a huge pair of Army-surplus binoculars that we brought along. The first picture shows a heron and two gulls. We also saw an American eagle with the binoculars, but it was too far away to get a picture. It was a juvenile. You can tell because adults have a ring of white feathers around their faces.
The current forecast for Sunday's massive snowstorm is 14 inches. The storm is so big that I understand it's made the news in the UK. Fortunately, DS will be here to help clear the driveway. For all the newbies, I live in an exurban area called the Hudson Highlands, about 40-50 miles north of New York City. Because we live in an area with relatively low population density, we're on two acres of land and have a huge driveway. It's about 150 feet long and has parking spaces for three cars, plus the bit by our two-car garage. It's a big job to clear the driveway when it snows. We do have a small Honda snowblower, which helps a lot.
DS has something to celebrate. He's taken a new job with a 15% pay increase and better benefits at a law firm. He's a tax accountant. And even better, it's a five-minute drive or a 20-minute walk from his new flat, so it's a win all around. We're taking him out to a posh restaurant for dinner on Saturday to celebrate.
For some reason, my link to the Hudson Highlands wikipedia page keeps getting deleted when I post it within the text, so I'll try putting it here:
