A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I don’t agree. It all seems pointless to me and would no doubt cost a lot of money.

I agree with you.

Also. there are always some unexpected circumstances with prohibitions.

Sky news reporting that Andrew Gwynne (nasty WhatsApp guy) is about to step down, paving the way for a by election for Andy Burnham. Game on.

Oooh game on indeed. Thanks for this. Popcorn time.

In other news, another 1000 migrants have crossed here in the last week despite the not ideal weather conditions, and the first batch of migrants have been moved into the ex army barracks at Crowborough in the dead of night (protests have been going on by local residents for months but to no avail it seems),

I saw that about the barracks. I wouldn't want that nearby.
I'm surprised that the crossings are so high this early in the year. Blimey, that's a lot of people!

I hope Burnham wins any by-election, not Reform. Not that he’s any better - probably worse - than Starmer. But the Labour spasms would be a joy to behold. Calm and grown up government my foot.

Even if the NEC blocks Burnham there’ll be major Labour tantrums. Good-o!

What is his majority, do you happen to know?

Blimey that is high in this weather

Agree, feel bad for the people of Crowborough.

Yup. Obviously not deterred by anything Labour have said they would do to try and stem the tide - not that I can even remember without googling what it all was now, or when it comes into force.

13,413.
Labour are expected to hold it according to most recent MRP.

I wonder if you can get PIP, or a juicy pension in your 50s for being a disgusting, sexist, antisemitic twat? 🤔

Just read the Gwynne/Burnham news. Very interesting.

Could Burnham get round the NEC? They’re seen as pretty pro-Starmer.

EmeraldRoulette · 22/01/2026 13:50

Those who have access to the Telegraph

Apparently, there was an interview with the home secretary and she said she had a vision of having a "panopticon" state. Doesn't surprise me. But interesting that she has no problem saying it out loud.

In theory, it might catch the people who did the fly tipping in her constituency, but I suspect she doesn't care about that.

As I understand it was getting agreement on the pension entitlement that was the main reason for him not resigning his seat. It seems agreement has been reached on that now, though I’ve not seen any definite confirmation that he is stepping down yet. Seems most likely outcome though.

if that does happen and if Burnham is selected as Labour candidate and if he does win the by-election it then creates an arguably bigger election to elect a new Greater Manchester mayor. Which given timing would on FPTP basis still I believe.

Then again given penchant for cancelling elections maybe there would be no mayoral election.

Labour are expected to hold it according to most recent MRP.

It’s probably one of the less unsafe Labour seats.

only 47% bothered to vote at the last GE.

Labour just over 50% of vote.

Reform and Greens close for 2nd place, though some way adrift of course.

Maybe more of a three way split between Lab, Ref and Grn? Enough for an upset? not sure.

The 2024 majority seems pretty good, Starmer is probably hoping it won’t be high enough but that seems a good lead for a go by Burnham.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 22/01/2026 14:13

We need Burnham to stand and win!

boys3 · 22/01/2026 14:17

@EasternStandard yes I’d agree it’s a more likely result. Though I think the Lab majority would still shrink further.
