A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

@justasking111 "Canada has thrown it's lot in with China, wonder if our government are flirting with the idea."

I posted that (at a civilised time) last night, but everyone had gone to bed and I had no one to talk to!

😁 I wish I were a night owl but these dark nights especially have me tucked up in bed the moment it's vaguely acceptable.

Re this and @justasking111China looking at Chagos yes I think there could be trade deal aspirations, think I heard something on the radio this am

The gov can’t seem to decide if China is deemed to be a threat or someone to buy / get money from. Looks like the latter. We’ll see in a few decades how that pans out.

EmeraldRoulette · 20/01/2026 14:47

I actually wish I was an early person

So much more practical!

Back to work now. No doubt I will post after work, my workout, dinner - by which time you'll all be heading for bed and 10 million more things will have happened 😂

justasking111 · 20/01/2026 14:48

Sorry @EmeraldRoulette I was back in bed with this lurgy, very early.

Just before Christmas, the security agency issued a warning to MPs around two lady Chinese spies. The news called this ‘ unprecedented’ at the time.
It went quiet soon afterwards, but makes you wonder !

Starmer obviously wants his trip to Beijing.

YouGov

Just one in six Britons (18%) have a favourable opinion of Keir Starmer, unchanged since last month, however a full three quarters (75%) now see the prime minister unfavourably, up three points since December and the highest figure for Starmer to date.

The uk government should ban smart phones and social media for U16s full stop

Yes I agree but I wonder if the young will find ways round it. A few years ago my son’s senior school tried to stop the boys using the internet and within half an hour a couple of techies had found a way round it.
Though maybe nowadays technology is more advanced so banning sm might be easier.

Good. Delaying elections should be for extreme situations - zombie outbreak/ terrorist threat. Not because democracy can be inconvenient and expensive.

I hope they go ahead too. Judgement to come. But entirely agree with you.

It's a bit of a leap of faith to have to keep crossing your fingers and hope that there enough robust mechanisms to push back when a government is behaving like Labour. At least the first step is over the line this one now.

Something popped into my head today when I was out dog walking.
Farage is constantly getting grief on here for not going to PMQs etc, but Zack Polanski isn't even an MP, so never goes to the house. Why does hypno-tits never draw the same criticism?

Sorry, bit random. I'll put the telly on 😂
