A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙 🩵

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

It’s hard to know what’s going to happen with the Greenland thing. I’m not engaging with it very much atm but I can’t see how it play out.

Yes, likewise. I can't help feeling the tiniest glimmer of sympathy for Starmer having to deal with it. It's the first challenge facing this government that isn't of their own making.

peacefulpeach · 18/01/2026 17:34

I’ve decided I’m not taking in any new toxic mind waste until at least February .. Enough’s enough

I feel sorry for the NATO leaders who are being dragged into this too. President Trump may just see it as ‘ business deal ‘ but other countries don’t. Tariffs and taxes end up hurting everyone.
Could the US ask Greenland for a referendum on its future? There must be ways forwards that may work better than just threats ?

They should have seen this coming.

The US has been pulling away from Europe for some time now. It was shortsighted to rely on the US and reduce defence spending.

TheNuthatch · 18/01/2026 17:47

Meloni's comments after speaking to Trump re the tarrif threats are interesting:

Meloni suggested that there has likely been a "problem of understanding and communication" between Europe and the US over the decision from several European states to deploy a limited number of troops to Greenland.

Iirc, the UK sent one person.

I think it's quite possible POTUS sees this as a business deal, but is also fully aware that effect it might have on NATO/EU..

I'm not sure how there can be any problem with a very small number of non US NATO troops being in country if invited in by those in authority...

I'm pretty sure the USA is not impressed by NATO the UN or WHO.

You may well be correct, and there's a theory doing the rounds that since POTUS cannot uniaterally withdraw from NATO a collapse of the.organisation might suit him fine and would certainly suit the isolationists.

Is it a bit early to suggest the occupants of places like Menwith Hill, Mildenhall etc book the movers?

I haven't looked today, come down with something nasty, cold with bad stomach. Slept all afternoon.

I presume everyone saw the Supreme Leader admitted thousands had been killed by the regime but that was the USA fault. 🙄

That could be covid? Hope you feel better soon.

Those poor people. It is horrifying.

Iran is heartbreaking. I’m picking up some backlash but it’s hard to get verified info. What was said about protestors and how the regime is operating now is so depressing.

On tariffs I can’t say I feel for Starmer as per pp but I do feel for the car industry, it looks like they’re very concerned.

What is he gaining from NATO collapsing though?

Not sure what he thinks he gains but the isolationist POV would be what does the US gain from NATO?

I think many of them (and there a probably a few who have Trump's ear) simply see it as a waste of US resources....

redange · 18/01/2026 21:13

Andrew Rosindell Conservative MP for Romford has joined Reform. He, was one of the most likely MP's to cross the floor to join Reform.

redange · 18/01/2026 21:16

It is likely Rosindell under a Reform banner will get around 60% of the vote in a GE in Romford...

LupaMoonhowl · 18/01/2026 22:07

Wow! Just saw it on GB News.

Yes, that's another way of looking at it, I suppose.

Given c.56% combined con and reform total at last GE that 60% is a more than reasonable shout.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/01/2026 11:17

Why would all Conservative voters switch to Reform? I can't see that happening.

Are you assuming that the Tories won't put up a candidate at the next GE? That is a bold assumption!

I agree. Plenty of Tory voters despise Farage and Reform. And I think a lot don't take kindly to disloyalty.
