My photos have been put into categories I don’t want . I hate the google search options , I hate the weird glass interface . I want my old phone back .

I don’t know whether to brave 26.2

Madcats · 17/01/2026 19:34

IOS 26.1 rather passed me by, but I’m getting annoyed at having to re-enter passwords for just about every app.

The new MetOffice app has sent me into a rage, as I can no longer see the two places I need to travel to/from and the one for occasional visits and the oldies’ (to check not to slippy/boiling hot).

Maybe I just don’t like change!

outofsounds · 17/01/2026 21:08

I absolutely hate it too. And I don’t normally get bothered by updates.

me too. Im not sure what the issues are that are bugging other posters but the new Met office app is not an improvement imo. I’ve still got the original on my iPad, hope I avoid updating that. (Updating iOS is non negotiable in my book to ensure all security updates)

Me too. I've switched off automatic updates for my phone and iPad.

TheClocksFast · 17/01/2026 22:44

Hating it too, so far

I had a notification saying 26.2 is ready

I don’t know whether to dare/brave it and it makes some things better

it can’t really make it worse can it …….

I've done a bit of research as I've had the same prompts coming up on my iPad Air and having read this thread I wanted to decide whether or not to upgrade.

From what I’ve read and been advised, the really negative reviews mostly come from people who have older iPads. Newer models (especially iPad Air/Pro from the last few years) seem to cope much better.

The current version (26.2) works reasonably well on newer iPads but does have some small bugs and changes to multitasking that take getting used to. Nothing disastrous for most people, but not perfectly polished either.

Apple is expected to release the next update (26.3) later this month, which should tidy things up and improve stability rather than add big new features.

in summary:

  • If your iPad is newer and you like being up to date, upgrading now is probably fine.
  • If you value stability and don’t need new features urgently, waiting a couple of weeks for the next update is the safer option.
  • For older iPads, a cautious approach is probably best ie waiting for the next few updates eg iOS 26.3 or 26.4 before upgrading unless you feel the features or security improvements are urgent for you.
  • make sure all your valued data including photos and videos are backed up to the cloud, to be on the safe side.

My iPhone is 14 so tech old

Sesma · 18/01/2026 21:48

My iPhone 15PM and iPad Pro 2021 both upgraded automatically and I haven't noticed any difference, I checked after seeing the thread posts, iPad battery is 82% health so quite bad anyway, I generally just plug it in on a long cable to use

Tarkan · 24/01/2026 00:46

Has anyone else had iMessage tell you it can’t work and it’s forcing you into SMS instead? My family have been wondering why my dad didn’t have iMessage anymore and then it happened to me today!

DH thinks it’s because of the update. He’s purposely not gone for it because he has seen the shit I’ve had with it.

I don’t mind the glass look but the lagging and freezing and battery killing has been horrendous.

I hate it too. Especially safari. This is how you change it back to that it was.

Settings / Apps / Safari / Tabs / And you select “bottom”

So many thanks for this!

Kitchendilemas · 24/01/2026 06:41

So wish I’d seen this before updating. I can hardly scroll or use my iPad now. I’m definitely not updating my phone.
anyone who hasn’t update. Stonglybrecommend not to update. What was the purpose of it😢

I’ve just cleared my safari cache and history which touch wood seems to have helped. No idea why it was a problem after the update and not before.

I gave feedback to the met office app as soon as it came out - I was particularly annoyed by how long it took to scroll through the forecast and history weather maps (it took 20 swipes to scroll through 24 hours of prediction!). They’ve updated it now and added a “play” button back again.

So try feedback if you can - looks like they’re listening at this early stage.

Skyellaskerry · 24/01/2026 10:25

Has anyone found a way to get rid of the massive keyboard that covers text boxes when you’re trying, say, type a message? Or that constantly appearing big tick? The other day I was filling in a box via a web page and I could only see half my letters, nothing like rotating the phone worked.

Kitchendilemas · 24/01/2026 12:22

I can no longer swipe and close tabs. Does anyone know how to do this? It is driving me crazy & can no longer increase the text by stretching the screen 😢

daisychain01 · 25/01/2026 12:04

Are you on an old device @Kitchendilemas ? If you're referring to safari browser, there is a solution from @MorticiaAddamsIsMyStyleGuru upthread. Can't tell if that's what you mean by swipe and close tabs.

i upgraded this morning and I have to say for me, it is nothing like as bad as the descriptions on this thread. As someone with an eye condition, I find the new interface to be a game changer. It's clearer and much more accessibility friendly. I use dark mode as much as possible and the definition on apps like the native iPad Notes app is so much easier to use.

My advice for anyone upgrading, read the instructions they give you onscreen after the update, as many of the answers and options are covered there.

Madcats · 25/01/2026 13:40

I’ve given the Met Office app “constructive criticism” (aka please revert to original set-up).

Re Safari, I seem to have most of it back to what I wanted:

Go to settings and scroll right down to the “Apps” option, then select “Safari”
and alter (some) things back from there.

Kitchendilemas · 25/01/2026 21:22

Thanks @daisychain01 i probably didn’t read the instructions. I managed to finally force a shut down and it’s a lot better since restarting. My iPad is only a couple of years old. Somehow, I didn’t restart after the update and it definitely hadn’t refreshed properly. It’s working better since the restart.

Tretweet · 25/01/2026 21:59

It’s AWFUL. Phone is running a lot slower and when I was in a new city trying to run google maps for a sat nav it was just glitching for me today.

Also fairly sure the new camera app takes worse photos, have thoroughly cleaned my lens but the auto settings are just not as good.

FloofyKat · 26/01/2026 14:20

My iPad is running slower than a slow thing since the update. Really annoying. My android phone and Windows laptop are not having any issues.

Oh God - it’s dreadful on the iPad Pro. 🤬🤬🤬. Some apps reduced to hard to read - others massive. And it drains the battery. Apparently the idiot that designed this has since parted company with Apple, and hopefully the next update will sort it out. 🤞

My new iPhone was ok though.

EnchantedDaytimes · 26/01/2026 16:33

Been on it on my phone for a few days now. It's hardly any different apart from appearance. Haven't quite got used to search bars being at the bottom instead of the top for some things but I can see why they've done that. Photos is no different to how it was, closing tabs in Safari is the same as it always was. No issues with it so far.

Thank you so so much. This was driving me insane.
Does anyone know a way to make the time more visible. It keeps going transparent so I can hardly read it.
