Don Snoreleone trying to stay awake long enough to bring all his racist dreams to fruition. So when can we bring about his personal "civilisational erasure”?

One of the internets better kept secrets 😎

Absolutely. I've learnt a huge amount on the cold war and the sheer economic logistics of ww2 .

But...

We will always be there for Nato, even if they won't be there for us,' Trump says
In the meantime, US president Donald Trump has offered his view on Nato in a lengthy post on Truth Social, saying he “doubted Nato would be there for us if we really needed them,” but insisted “we will always be there for Nato, even if they won’t be there for us.”
(Not a word on what it means given his repeated threats to take over Greenland, which is a part of a fellow Nato member, Denmark.)
Trump also took credit for pushing Nato to raise its defence spending, and claimed that “without my involvement, Russia would have all of Ukraine right now,”while pointedly criticising the Nobel committee for not giving him the Nobel peace prize (erm.).
Trump also said that “the only nation that China and Russia fear and respect is the DJT [Donald J. Trump] rebuilt USA.”
Here is the post in full:
“Remember, for all of those big NATO fans, they were at 2% GDP, and most weren’t paying their bills, UNTIL I CAME ALONG. The USA was, foolishly, paying for them! I, respectfully, got them to 5% GDP, AND THEY PAY, immediately. Everyone said that couldn’t be done, but it could, because, beyond all else, they are all my friends. Without my involvement, Russia would have ALL OF UKRAINE right now. Remember, also, I single-handedly ENDED 8 WARS, and Norway, a NATO Member, foolishly chose not to give me the Noble Peace Prize. But that doesn’t matter! What does matter is that I saved Millions of Lives. RUSSIA AND CHINA HAVE ZERO FEAR OF NATO WITHOUT THE UNITED STATES, AND I DOUBT NATO WOULD BE THERE FOR US IF WE REALLY NEEDED THEM. EVERYONE IS LUCKY THAT I REBUILT OUR MILITARY IN MY FIRST TERM, AND CONTINUE TO DO SO. We will always be there for NATO, even if they won’t be there for us. The only Nation that China and Russia fear and respect is the DJT REBUILT U.S.A. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!! President DJT”
(as reported just now in The Guardian)

The problem is now Europe is doing it's own defence, it doesn't need - or want - US involvement (e.g. F-35s). That is a lot of military industrial cash Trump has pissed away.

The US can jolly well sort all it's defence needs now.

PerkingFaintly · 07/01/2026 15:18

Ooh, interesting.

He tends to repeat the last thing he's heard, so I wonder if someone's "handling" him by feeding him ego-cookies dependent on his importance within NATO?

To counteract the ego-cookies he gets by watching fireworks in Venezuela, kidnapping its president and holding press-conferences about how exciting it all is?

The deeper you study WW2, the more you appreciate the power of propaganda. Western propaganda, that is.

Despite the narrative (especially the British one), the reality is there was no way a country as fucked as Germany could ever hope to achieve more than a few lucky successes and some posturing before the total might of the greatest empire on the globe crushed them. The comedy plans for operation Sealion being one exhibit, and Britain (allegedly hours from Nazi invasion) shipping tanks FROM Britain to the Mediterranean being another.

Even as early as 1941, the UK alone was outproducing German factories. And come 1944, the combined industrial output of the Allies was many times that of Germany. I mean they were launching 3 ships a week FFS.

Doesn't the USA have Alaska as part of the Arctic?

Anyway it's Norway, Canada and Russia who are the main Arctic counties. Most of Greenland beyond the Arctic circle isn't accessible.

If Russia has taken as much care of it's nuclear arsenal (which ain't cheap) as it has it's regular weapons, then I really would sleep a lot better at night.

I wouldn't! A dud nuke is still dangerous, and it is unpredictable as well.

But then, I am a maverick who was more worried about Chernobyl and whether that was going to be repeated, in the nineties, than I was about the cold war heating up. And more worried about the b and c components of abc warfare than I was by a.

I thoroughly agree with you about
It's an axiom of mine that if you are in a position of strength then you never need to make threats."

I think that may be covered by "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

Talkinpeace · 07/01/2026 19:03

A slight diversion but interesting (to me at least)

I am old enough to remember 1979 and am no fan of the late Shah.
I was very worried to hear people shouting for Pahlavi to return
but it looks like I misjudged him (and the Iranians)

He can see a way to turn up, get HANDSOMELY rewarded for turning Iran into a secular democracy, possibly with an honorary head of state (like Ireland)
and wander back to his luxury life

My OpEd in the @WashingtonPost setting out my plan to bring an end to the criminal regime in Iran, our roadmap to a prosperous and democratic future, and my vision for my country. I have stepped forward to lead this transition to freedom. https://t.co/...

The closest I ever came to thinking "This is it" is at about 03:15 on Friday 16th October 1987. I woke up in the pitch dark.No electricity. My battery radio - permanently tuned to Capital - only picked up static all across the dial. The city was pitch black and the phone line dead.

In those few moments - with a wind beyond the biblical - I honestly and genuine thought that they'd dropped a bomb and this was the wind before the end.

I have said many times since that in that sliver of time, I made my peace. And - with a weary sense that I and my generation totally blew it - that remains the case.

That's why I refuse to find Putin scary. But tell that to the kids today, and they won't believe you 😀

US seizes Russian-flagged tanker in Atlantic as UK confirms it gave support to operation

Starmer, just why?

Starmer, just why?

The Shadow fleet are a very strange set of ships.

Several have been implicated in cutting telecom and power cables in the Baltic
as well as the destruction of Nord Stream 1 and 2

THey change flags as often as we change socks
and regularly have their transponders off - causing a risk to other ships

nobody knows what maintenance is done - spill risk

having ALL of them stopped from moving would be "a good thing"

CaveMum · 07/01/2026 19:52

In my proximity to 2 USAF bases here in the UK, I can confirm there has been a lot of activity this evening. We regularly have to endure “night flying practice” but this is not the usual flying round in circles practising their approaches, it’s planes coming in and landing.

logicisall · 07/01/2026 19:53

TBH, I would have preferred the UK join a non-US allied forces group as I think the current situation leads to a 'we stand with the US' (in spite of VZ) posture which the US will certainly exploit.

What it does highlight, is that the EU needs to be more proactive in its own defence.

Should clarify these are big aircraft, transporters, and not jets.

I think maybe wanting to be closer to get to Russia if needed? After the capture of that oil tanker and Putin accusing the USA of piracy

And ICE has killed a woman in Minneapolis. An American citizen apparently

Trump's post on this tragedy calls her a 'professional agitator' and blames 'the left'. Much more verbal vomit, but that's the gist of it.

FAKE NEWS!! DOCTORED VIDEO!!! LEFT WING MEDIA!!! WITCH HUNT!!! HILARY'S EMAILS!!!!

The video is abundantly clear exactly what happened.

Noem is calling it 'an act of domestic terrorism'. She really shouldn't talk about 'her' ICE agents that way.

Yes, apparently Elon is also on that bandwagon.

The world just feels insane right now

I think the dog killer considers that a compliment 😅

From The Atlantic: https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/01/deadly-shooting-minnesota/685541/?gift=e2u7q4bY0aDA8U4mEoqTWexy0Bh5O8BiZChevdcH0bo&utm_source=copy-link&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=share

According to a witness who spoke to The Minnesota Star Tribune, a doctor at the scene attempted to help the woman who was shot, but was kept away by federal agents. When an ambulance finally arrived, it was blocked from reaching her by law-enforcement vehicles, and paramedics had to reach her on foot. The woman has died.

Tim Walz (Governor of Minnesota, as I’m sure you know) is being very wary and careful of how he reacts in order not to give those bastards (my words, not his) any excuse to call insurrection and bring the National Guard in.
