Don Snoreleone trying to stay awake long enough to bring all his racist dreams to fruition. So when can we bring about his personal "civilisational erasure”?

He's forgetting it was the Vikings doing the raping and pillaging not the other way round.

GoodBrew · 06/01/2026 20:19

I will preface this post by saying I have spent the last few years avoiding the news for the sake of my mental health, so my knowledge of world politics is extremely poor.

Hypothetically, what do we think would Europe do if trump invades Greenland? And would that action include Britain?

This might be nonsense but I have an idea that Putin may be encouraging trump to take Greenland as a way to distract Europe from his shenanigans. If European troops are busy over there then it leaves the home countries less able to defend Putin's advances.

As I say, I am very uneducated in this so do correct me if I'm being silly.

PerkingFaintly · 06/01/2026 21:03

Tragically it's not nonsense at all, @GoodBrew .

I'm quite sure Putin is keen for Trump to continue his current trajectory.

TokyoSushi · 06/01/2026 21:39

I’m going to stick my neck out and say Greenland will be a TACO

Deafnotdumb · 06/01/2026 21:55

Well, blowing up the NATO Alliance is one way to drown out Epstein.

PerkingFaintly · 06/01/2026 22:21

Have to say, the US invading a NATO country wasn't on even my bingo chart.

ETA: I'm shan't tempt fate by saying this is actually going to happen.

RafaistheKingofClay · 06/01/2026 22:57

I don’t think that was on any bingo charts. Even those of us who had him down as a threat to global security if he got re-elected.

I’m sure I saw somewhere the other day a post about him having bombed 7 different countries in a 12 month period since he became president. Which is the first time a president has managed that in 80years.

Amazingly the US don’t seem to be at was with any of them. He is the bestest president at bombing places.

LlttledrummergirI · 06/01/2026 23:03

He is the bestest president at spreading chaos and disorder. Good old Soviet tactics- create a power vacuum and bring the country into its control.

God I hope you're right.

Lalgarh · 06/01/2026 23:23

Author onn polar geopolitics was on the news. Greenland only has 100 miles of roads. So any investment or annexation of Greenland for it's supposed rare earth's will take "multiples of 50 years not just decades"

LlttledrummergirI · 06/01/2026 23:26

Eric Schmidt on BBC news sounds paranoid. We have to protect the borders of a country that isn't ours from the big bad scary Chinese and Russians. They are going to come for America otherwise.

Russia is bogged down in its illegal invasion of Ukraine, if the Americans think Russia is a threat they are deluded.

China is happy not paying slave wages to flog shit to the West and get rich. They have their own access to minerals and don't need America. If there is any desire on their part to upset the current consumer based trade they are doing well at, I would be amazed.

America is manufacturing some kind of fake emergency to enrich Trump and cronies. They are the biggest threat to world peace that we've had in many years.

Can we then look forward to Mango-Mussolini's defenestration?
Or even novichoc-ation?

Cant help agreeing @LlttledrummergirI, he does seem especially gleeful, even manic, as if anticipating pulling off a big heist.
There must be huge pressure in his brain from the effort of suppressing the urge to explicitly brag about it. Surely his blood vessels are rotting & ripe for bursting.

A few pundits on SM thinking the same thing.

Interesting opinion/thread here from a Dane.
Maybe USA doesn't hold all the cards?

There’s a lot of talk about whether Denmark would/could “defend” Greenland against a hypothetical US invasion.

FFS

That’s not the real question. The real issue is whether Denmark would ask the EU for Russia‑level sanctions — and whether the EU would do it.
Both yes.

Jesper Padkær Petersen (@padkaer.bsky.social)

Our PM meant it literally: if the US ever chose this absurd course, then everything ends. Not militarily — but economically, diplomatically and strategically. 2/n

Make America Viking Again I guess. Though first Nations would still.be pissed

logicisall · 07/01/2026 09:15

I'm not as upbeat as Petersen in his EU/NATO response analysis to a possible attempt by the US to take Greenland. Hawk Miller's been in the news a lot and where is Vance?
So much crazy shit has been happening.
My bet would be a takeover off the table, and instead a compromise agreement between Denmark and the US to site more military ordnance and personnel in Greenland.
Starmer and EU leaders must be thinking they have ibs right now.

Igotjelly · 07/01/2026 09:56

Things feel like they’ve hit new levels of batshit craziness in recent days. The whole world feels like it’s on a knife edge.

Not sure what to make of the current influx of military aircraft to the UK either. Some reports that they’re heading for Iran, others speculate Greenland and another lot are suggesting it’s poised to take on the Russian navy over a sanctioned oil tanker.

SerendipityJane · 07/01/2026 10:19

Will any country that uses F-35s be able to use them against the US ?

Pedallleur · 07/01/2026 10:39

The United States offered to buy Greenland from Denmark for $100,000,000 in 1946; Denmark firmly rejected the offer, as the island was seen as an integral part of the Danish kingdom, important to its history and national identity.[72][73] In 1951 Denmark and the United States signed the Greenland Defense Agreement, which allowed the United States to keep its military bases in Greenland, and to establish new bases or "defence areas" if Denmark agreed[74] and if deemed necessary by NATO. The U.S. military could freely use and move between these defence areas, but was not to infringe upon Danish sovereignty in Greenland.[75] The United States greatly expanded Thule Air Base between 1951 and 1953 as part of a unified NATO defence strategy. The local population of three nearby villages was moved more than 100 km (62 miles) away in the winter. The United States tried to construct a subterranean network of secret nuclear missile launch sites in the Greenlandic ice cap, named Project Iceworm.[76] According to documents declassified in 1996,[77] this project was managed from Camp Century from 1960 to 1966 before abandonment as unworkable.[78] The missiles were never fielded, and necessary consent from the Danish Government to do so was never sought. The Danish government was not aware of the programme's mission until 1997, when they discovered it while looking in the declassified documents for records related to the crash of a nuclear-equipped B-52 bomber near the Thule air base in 1968.[79]

Not that it would happen, but I’d love to see Greenlanders vote to become part of Canada. Just to see the look on 🍑🌮 face.
