A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

I couldn't help but smile at the cockpit analogy. While there's a definite sense of lack of leadership and professionalism in many sectors, you'll be pleased/relieved to know aviation (my industry) remains regulated to the hilt.

That's a relief 😂

However, I think that's his point, he was talking about the general fear and unease saying that part of it is due to finding the cockpit empty.

looking at the alternatives
Crewkerne Gazette are churning out a lot of stuff at the moment

One video refers to an unspecified blob that might be in charge! I think there will be some posts on here who can probably guess what that means although I do am making an assumption about what they mean... I won't link because I'm heading out now - pub time!

I'm not quite sure what to make of this either

I had this conversation with a contact a few years ago. Admittedly, I don't know what may have changed recently.

She used to talk a lot about it being very difficult to do in terms of how unpleasant it is, but she felt organisations were avoiding it due to the unpleasantness, rather than potential legal problems

Interested to know your view, if we're not derailing this thread too much

I'm not working today and somehow I'm talking shop 🤦🏽‍♀️

I have let three people go since coming to the UK. One company paid the person off after I freaked them out by pointing out that they were not on track for a bonus. One took me a year to shift because HR was so slow and risk averse (his last boss accused him of bullying her!) I had to track behaviour problems for 8 months (not living the values 🙄, refusing reasonable management requests, etc.). HR needed to be shamed into supporting me. He saw the writing on the wall and found a job before getting fired. Last one broke cybersecurity measures, made sexual advances on his supervisor, admitted lying on his CV, etc. Got him out in three weeks. He was a new hire and HR was awesome.

I am sure some people will read this with horror. But really, if you agree to be the manager you have a responsibility to the team to not allow people on the team who bring them down and make them feel like chumps for wanting to work together and do a good job. I want everyone working for me to feel like they have opportunities to grow and achieve things. They need to know that I respect them enough, not to let them be taken advantage of.

@Woollyguru how mad is that?!

@Pacificsunshine sounds like those companies were making it harder than it should be. I realised they've got to be aware of the risk of being sued but sometimes I think they're really over thinking the likelihood of that happening.

I got home and saw there's a long thread going on about workplace standards, etc! Haven't looked at it yet.

Party season has definitely arrived. Pub landlord said one company asked if they could have the private room till 3 am tomorrow night. Seems a bit much for a work do! Cab driver on the way home home said it's been madly busy from the station. Hopefully that gives hospitality a boost.

Just been listening the JRM.

I hadn't realised that there was a bill going through parliament that would change the mayoral elections to be won by the fptp system to another method - and so these delays that would see Reform win 4 new mayors - as things stand - isn't just saving face and kicking the can down the road. But that the delays could materially change the outcome if it is passed.

Apparently this would afford the conservative more success with the same intended vote share - but the manipulation of voters seems more sinister knowing that Labour are leveraging their muscle against voters like this.

Thanks for the new thread nuthatch ,checking in old poster always name changing.

Re assisted dying perhaps there has been sly shenanigans in how labour has brought this about but I fully and urgently support assisted dying after sitting with df for weeks as he slowly died begging for the end and seeing other abandoned elderly dying in their beds on the geriatric wards.
It's the greatest liberty to choose how to die .

Kemi is defiantly doing better but I want to see more of what they would do if in power and why it would work.
Same with reform I want to hear things like ...we have sent a team of doctors ,business men ,nurses and so on to review the health care services world wide to see what's working best to implement that here and so on. I suppose that takes money and power but I want evidendce

Re the boats i want to know spefically why it's a problem for us and what they will do eg changing the law getting kjr of ehrc..changing the definition of asslyum for modern times, declare an emergency like trump ? What ?
Stop paying France ?
Rachel reeves mould issues which is why she's lifted the child benefit because an NHS nurse told her to end child poverty and mold...what will keni or farage actually do to help stop mold and raise the standaesa or housing stock .

Re sloppy work attitude I'm afraid that's going to get much worse with the reliance on AI

I was talking to my sister yesterday and she has friends who run small businesses. One of them owns a gym and he has said he will have to shut down as business costs are too high now and he has to find an extra 14k a year. Another owns a small brewery and he said he'll give it until April but will likely have to close. They are all naturally very distressed about losing the livelihoods they've worked so hard to build. They hate this government.

Catatemyhomework · 05/12/2025 08:22

We were talking about why this government is so hell bent on destroying businesses and increasing welfare for the masses. We came to the conclusion that it has to be to get the population reliant on the state and lifelong labour votors. There is no other explanation for the wilful destruction of the economy.

Catatemyhomework · 05/12/2025 08:25

No idea how they'll pay for it all once 75% of the population are on welfare and all the businesses are gone. What are they planning to do. It's communism.

It’s just awful. Idk how anyone is immune to hearing this stuff. Maybe they only know public sector workers.

But even then some must have dc impacted by the terrible job situation. How can people be that switched off to the private sector? Labour party included.

I think RS hit the nail on the head on yesterdays TRIP in that Labour (particularly Reeves) seem to have been operating on the basis that “Tories are bad/stupid people” and “You just need to be a kind person to be a good Chancellor”.

It’s all well and good having noble intentions, but if you can’t grasp the basics of economics (eg increasing the tax burden on businesses will only stagnate the economy further) then you’re worse than useless.

Catatemyhomework · 05/12/2025 09:17

When all the businesses are gone and no one has a job, what will happen? I can see them coming for our houses in the name of 'fairness.' This is deliberate. They want everything to give away to their dependants and they won't stop until they've done it. 3 more years of this and we'll all have nothing. They are accelerating the process. They don't care about the economy.

EmeraldRoulette · 05/12/2025 09:19

@Christmaschristingle one of my personal projects is to look a bit more at AI

I do know of a couple of excellent workers who are making good use of it. They are definitely excellent workers, I have worked with them in the past and I continue to see the work produced by one of them. He's honestly one of the best people I've ever worked with. So I think AI will probably be used effectively by that type of worker but I don't know that it's going to make poor workers even worse. I think there's much bigger issues going on that lead to poor work standards - at the moment, the tolerance of it is the biggest problem I think

@Catatemyhomework it is communism. As I've said on previous threads, Konstantin Kisin (he grew up under communism) put quite an emotional statement about it on X. That move towards is happening all over the world.

Where is @twistyizzy because I have a feeling she'll know what I'd like to say but I don't want to. Conspiracy theorists unite.

I obviously don't have the BBC. I gather there's controversy from last night's QT. Did they actually have "illegal" immigrants in the audience? I wonder how much they paid them. I presume they will have justified it quite carefully so they will say the status is "pending approval" - hopefully even they wouldn't have someone who stayed after their asylum claim was denied!

Yes. I’ve mentioned this before but the former East German had a good wheeze whereby they found out which people who had valuable art works (not hard when so many people were informing on friends, family and neighbours) and they would send the owner a huge tax bill so that he had to sell the artwork to pay it.
This government could pick up plenty of tips from the GDR government - I expect they already have.

DancingFerret · 05/12/2025 09:50

Quentin Letts on the delayed local elections and the dire state of the Labour party.

Despite the bluster, they're in over their necks, running scared - and a perfect of example of why actions speak louder than words. Utter shambles.

The Crewkerne gazette are absolutely prolific now. Just had a quick look on YouTube after watching that, thanks @strawberrybubblegum, and they released several just yesterday. I suppose that's the speed of ai. And some of these are getting thousands and thousands of views.

This is so bad. I heard about the upcoming bill on the radio yesterday too. Shocking. I would love to see the tories do well, but its just wrong.
All voters should be up in arms about this.

I hadn't even heard of it, it had gone completely under my radar. It's such a slimy, dishonest and dangerous way to engineer a bias for yourself.

JRM lost his seat to Dan Norris. People living in that area have had no representation in parliament since Norris was arrested. No by election either.
They should hold a by election so he can win it back.

Completely agree. It’s so bad. Let people vote.

EmeraldRoulette · 05/12/2025 10:10

I'll have to look up this change to the voting system
Would be nice to find out about it without listening to JRM - his voice annoys me 😂

I don't know what the situation is with Dan Norris. Does somebody just vote in his place and follow the party line? Obviously, that would not be good enough. Does his constituency office just keep working as normal?
