A chat thread for those who don't like this Labour government. 💙

The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.

Thank you @TheNuthatch . I'm a bit pissed, but I will be back. Just gone into a self reflection mode and trying to be rational. My Adhd makes me blow up and I have learned I need to step back or I become manic. It is why I never comment on any of the other threads about politics. I do feel safe here, so thank you, ❤️

MrsMurphyIWish · 26/11/2025 20:14

Thank you for the new thread @TheNuthatch.

I posted this on the “disenfranchised” thread: “My son is in receipt of DLA, he has an EHCP. DH and I are teachers and we live in a deprived area - we do see see people abusing the system and it 1. angers us as we work full time and can’t devote the time to DS that he needs and 2. We are worried because he will need a welfare state in the future that I don’t think will be there.”

I feel a bit sick that the upbringing I wanted to disassociate from could actually hurt DS (and many like him) due to my short sight.

That's the worry, isn't it. That the welfare state will eat itself and there won't be anything for those who badly need it in the future.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 26/11/2025 20:18

Sorry, I might be a bit too pessimistic, I hope something can happen to save us from this happening.

Place marking such a bloody stupid move removing the two child cap

The people who will be really penalised by the Mansion Tax are those whose houses are worth £2-2.5 million <disclaimer, I’m definitely NOT one of them>

If your house falls in this bracket then good luck selling it - no one will want to buy a house just over the tax threshold, but if you stay you’ll be liable for the bill.

Be ready to see a lot of houses being sold for £1.99 million.

I wonder if there is a way round it - ie pay £1.99 million for the house, and then purchase fixtures and fittings in a separate transaction? You can be sure someone will try that one!

MrsMurphyIWish · 26/11/2025 20:25

I’m in bed right now with him next to me. This is our life. He can’t sleep alone so I work in bed whilst he sleeps next to me. I’ll then rouse him (like a toddler!) and put him to bed in about an hour. As much as I convince myself, he isn’t on a par with the average Yr 7.

Enough if the pity talk - it is self inflected and I feel guilty reading stories of the small businesses going under (which is where DS could have had a foothold).

RelativePitch · 26/11/2025 20:39

@MrsMurphyIWish I was pushed into getting my then very naughty, low support needs DS2 assessed for autism and ADHD at primary school which in fairness he does have. When I handed the reports to the SENCO, she gave me the names of a local SEN Support CIC run by two ladies who would help me fill in the DLA form "to get it over the line". The fee for this help was a £150 donation.
I was gobsmacked. I said, but he doesn't cost me anything. Apparently it was pretty standard in our area and I was among the exceptions in not pursuing it.

ProfessorDrPrunesqualer · 26/11/2025 20:43

Checking in (festive name change!) not a lot like to add on budget, looking forward to detailed analysis over days. Relieved it hasn’t hit harder, immediately and cheered up by Kemi’s response to it.

It’s those @£1.5mill at the moment that are a worry too
It won’t be too long before they could be hit if people want to live in them long term.

There would be no need to scrap the Triple Lock if Reeves didn't give money away like water. Why should the old and Disabled suffer due to the profligacy and incompetency of the state. Triple Lock Provision and Carers Allowance should be guaranteed. In fact it is pathetic that Carers Allowance is £83 a week and those in receipt of Carers Allowance are 'exempted' from any criticism towards the Benefit Class.
In another confused policy Reeves as announced the Luxury Car Tax for Electric cars will now start at £50 K and not 40 K for Internal Combustion Engines. There are two confusions here firstly does Hybrid Luxury Car Tax come in at £50 K or 40 K. The other more telling one is about Mobility, given the attack on the choices of disabled people (which will not save one pound) based on 'Perceived' Luxury. All Mercedes, Bmw's and Audi's have been removed due to quote being Luxury Cars. However, the Government have declared 'Luxury' for Electric cars is £50k Plus. Therefore, a New Mercedes CLA 250 Sport Electric with a RRP of £45,615 available for £40 K should be reinstated on the Mobility car List.
You cannot underestimate the stupidity and lack of research or knowledge of these people in Government or the Civil Service.

Posted this on thread 21 after Sir Edward Leigh Conservative said we should Scrap the Triple Lock for Pensioners.

Labour really are the benefit party.

Some interesting stories. My overriding view is stop having children. But of course now it’s just going to be more children. Who won’t feel the benefit in the most part, but will probably grow up to be just like their parents.

£6142 is way, way into 6 figure territory after tax, SL and NI. Yet she is just barely managing. Wow. That 2nd case study is a clear example of how messed up the system is. Shocking. From The Mirror as well. I can’t believe Labour are being trolled by The Mirror! Just goes to show how high benefits really are in comparison to taxed salaries.

Congratulations to those of you who have had an overnight Pre tax salary upgrade of £1,600 a Month or £19,200 PA.

Nanalovesnature · 26/11/2025 21:40

I can't actually cope with reading any more about how much money people on benefits are already getting and how much more they will get after this budget whilst us workers pay more tax and earn less money to pay for their life of leisure. It is so depressing😣

Sarahconnor1 · 26/11/2025 21:44

Nanalovesnature · 26/11/2025 21:35

Edited

That is in no way sustainable. Those numbers are insane.

AlexandraBee · 26/11/2025 21:47

Labour are giving the UK a master class in how to encourage people to vote for Reform at the next election. 😑
